I talked with them about the status back in October when I was passed up after my September interview.. so maybe something has changed with how they are doing the waitlist/hold/decision pending thing. It might be worth a shot to give them a call about this limbo.

Also in the decision pending/no hold email boat, would definitely be interested if someone called. I might call early Jan
 
In my situation it is on hold with decision pending status. However, my classmate has been decision pending since September with no hold email but was told on the phone the application will be reviewed every month with decision most likely being made towards end of cycle with these situations.
 
Now does anyone know how long it takes from being accepted to being told which campus we got placed in? I'm sure it's going to take longer because of the holidays but I'm curious about how long it takes. I really prefer Chicago

Im wondering this too - still decision pending, but if I can't get Chicago I'll just go down the street to Rush.

I remember at my interview in November they said there was still a good chance of placing to your campus of choice. But I think the next round of acceptances might have lesser chance.

I don't actually think it's too late yet. I was wondering the same thing last night and I went through last year's thread, and several people from the December adcom meeting were placed in Chicago. But it also probably changes from year to year!
 
Two questions:
1. So if I'm interviewing in January, are my chances at being placed in Chicago essentially zero?
2. If I did get placed at another campus and decided to matriculate there, do they ever let you transfer campuses if you have a compelling reason? Say, God forbid, something happened to my parents and I had to care for my disabled sister, would it be possible to switch to the Chicago campus so that I could live with her? I don't anticipate this happening, of course, but you never know!

1. I don't think your chances are zero, but they would be significantly diminished.
2. Since the different campuses are on different tracks, it makes transferring incredibly difficult unfortunately.

Ah, I didn't know about the different tracks.
I was excited to get an interview from my state school but it looks like it's very unlikely that I'd matriculate here. The other school I've been accepted to is cheaper despite being out of state (seriously, why is UIC so ridiculously expensive compared to other public schools?) and is, most likely, in a better location. That's kind of disappointing.

In regards to your second question--
They do consider site change appeals before the school year starts. I remember that being mentioned on interview day, as well as on last year's thread. The only appeals that are considered are ones with compelling arguments--but it sounds like you definitely have one. Another way to guarantee a place on the Chicago campus is by applying to and being accepted into the UMED program. I believe they do a little bit of shuffling around with the campus assignments later on in the season, to accommodate both UMED and students with appeals, once Chicago spots open up due to withdrawals.
 
Just got my acceptance yesterday. Interviewed Dec 7th in Chicago.
Now have tough decision between Keck and UIC.
Is Chicago really the campus that fills up first?
I thought one of the smaller campuses like Rockford would be harder to place into.
Oh well I will submit my preferences and see what happens
 
I interviewed in December and they told us that even if you are not placed in Chicago, it is possible to appeal and switch to Chicago in April when people choose schools because not everyone that gets accepted ends up going there.

Got my fat packet in the mail today, but I am still waiting on decisions from other schools. The packet includes a deadline for submitting campus preferences + a deposit + a statement promising to fulfill academic requirements and attend the school. Does anyone know if this agreement is truly binding? The deadline for preference submission falls before I hear back from some other schools, so I'm hesitant to commit without hear from them first. Thanks for all your help!

Don't worry, it's not truly binding. The deposit is just to hold your seat in case you do decide to attend later. 🙂

Do we have to call to confirm they received the blue response envelope? A few of the schools my friends applied to had them call in a few days after to make sure they received everything. I tweaked out last night and thought I selected "will not attend" on my response slip even though it's my top school hahaha.. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!
 
Accepted OOS! Does anyone know how the scholarship situation works? I would love to go here but the out of state tuition is just way too much.

I got my acceptance letter in the mail today, but it wasn't a fat packet like everyone else. Do anyone know if that comes separate? But anyways within my letter of acceptance there was scholarship information. I got $15K a year, I haven't done much research regarding the financial aspects yet so I don't know if that's good or bad but I hope this info help!

Yes just Cs or better. I also had a rough semester and screwed up one of my finals really badly and freaked out...the acceptance packet said Cs or better but I called the admissions office just to make sure and the lady on the phone said that yes Cs are just fine. What she said is that as long as you don't get any grades <C, they don't bother you at all. From what she said it sounded like there are periodically people who register for classes after they're accepted, and just sort of aim to get Cs, and that they don't hold that against them. If you get a D/F, she said they will ask you to explain it but it doesn't necessarily mean that your acceptance gets rescinded, it depends on what led to the D/F. Hope this alleviates some of your worries.
 
I was complete at the end of August and have been stuck at applicant in progress ever since. Does UIC send out pre-interview rejections or just wait until the end of the cycle?

You da real MVP! (I mean, obviously I am too because I'm Mike Trout, but still.)

Edit: Grades are in, bar one. 2 As, 1 B, and 1 C so far. The last one won't be worse than a B. So not too shabby! Just frustrating because I know I shouldn't have gotten a C in the one course.

oh wow that is pretty high! I have heard that the UIC interview is almost like a formality, so I guess a high acceptance rate post-interview confirms that. Thank you so much!

From my 2013 cycle, it looks like they didn't email me a rejection. Either it came snail mail at the end or I was silently rejected.

It guarantees a seat following successful program completion. It's a great opportunity imo since I definitely intend to go to UIC, but i'm worried because it says I have to compete for a seat. As to how stiff the competition is, I honestly don't know or if they meant competition through the regular med school admission? Wow. That sounds great. Thanks so much for the info. I had heard something about this program over the years, but for some reason I thought it was exclusively for UIC undergrads. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and I hope you get in. My stats are not stellar either, but I know very well how hard we low-stat people work. 😉
 
Is there a different thread or another resource that will be beneficial to reference when looking for housing/roommates?

I think once it gets later in the application season a Facebook group will be created for the class and people can find stuff there. It's a little too early at this point I think

^ There is a FB group! (cc: @doc_lunz ) I had to dig in the thread a few pages back but I thought I remembered a current UIC student posting this up. It's for the Chicago campus specifically, but I'm sure a UPR one will be made soon too.

has anyone not gotten this email? I've already gotten all the materials and my site placement but I never got an email about the portal
 
Between applying last year and this year, I've calculated that I've been "Applicant in Process" for roughly 12 months. Would it be odd to mail my application a birthday card? What's an appropriate gift some something that's been in process that long?
 
Has anyone received an II here in 2016 so far? Also, is there a consensus on what "process" vs. "progress" means? I was in progress for about 24 years up until late December when I became "applicant in process." Thanks!

From earlier in this thread:

(A) "Application in Progress" = You are complete.
(B) "Applicant in Process" = Your file is being reviewed.
(C) "Application in Process" = You are not good enough to grant an interview yet, but might be later on in the cycle.

I'm currently option (B) and have been completed for a while as well. It seems like the switch from "applicant" to "application" is a negative thing, but not positive on that. I guess we will see...still clinging on to hope lol.
