Relax.

Getting ready to submit my secondary and I really am considering leaving the "additional information" blank. What topics did you all write about? I could always mention that I bleed maize and blue...
Is it ok not to include your parents' addresses in the personal information section? dnw them involved.
HAHAHHAHA omg...do it!!!
j.k.....but you could address things you think your application lacks and then just enforce why you think UMich is a good fit for you...aside from carrying maize and blue blood 😛
Good, I didn't want to add mine either and I was fretting about it.For one of my parents I included their name but put N/A in every other box. Can't say whether that was the right thing or not because I didn't call and ask them but if you do do it at least you won't be the only one.

My grades & MCAT aren't bad but they are on the low end of what's acceptable for UMich. I'm a nontrad and recent grades are good, but bad way back in my first two years of college. I keep debating whether or not to talk about that in there to acknowledge it or if it will sound defensive. I was first in my family to go to college and my dad began aggressive cancer treatment my freshman year. I mentioned my dad's illness in my PS though not in that context.
Does your EC s include heavy research? Gpa at of M is only 3.7, but their ave MCAT for ooS is 36. This is a school looking to train leaders and the best, so if you have strong research with pubs, that will make up for weaker MCAT. If not, this may not be the school for you. Mayo really prizes volunteer and service work. Those types of schools may be a better fit.I know that umich is really selective, especially when it comes to OOS, but how does it deal with skewed stats? I have a decently good GPA, 3.9, but polar opposite MCAT, 31. I feel that I have good ECs and essays. Do you guys know of people like this who still got an interview?
Also, do med schools take major into account? Have heard both sides to this.
I mentioned when my dad was sick and my activities show my work overlapping with school so they could connect the dots, I haven't brought up anything else or acknowledged being on the low end or anything but it is possible for them to see it. That's why I'm unsure about bringing it up and addressing it directly. If you already addressed everything, then you don't have to write anything. Unless you really feel obliged to mention your ties or preference for UMich?
Well let's try this Michigan Mondays again!
😱According to MDApps, Interviews at Michigan are going out.
😱
Edit: I didn't see anything, but I am also pretty MDApps illiterate.
That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. Looking forward to my U of M interview invite in say November, December!! If you are angsting now, it is going to be a really long cycle for you!!Just saw it. That person had an MCAT of 40, goes along with the theory that UMich interviews applicants with stellar stats first.
😱

32 schools with those stats? 😱 no wonder everyone thinks pre-meds are neurotic.
Well to be fair, he/she is MSTP, so that's a little different. Also, you never know what situation they could be in. Maybe they're trying to match schools with a significant other (quite common), in which case applying broadly is a must.32 schools with those stats? 😱 no wonder everyone thinks pre-meds are neurotic.

Does michigan have a relatively holistic review process? or are they more stats-heavy? I live in california at the moment, but I am a michigan resident so I'm pretty sure I'll be counted as one. Just wondering how much I should expect this secondary to matter.
This is true, I got an invite from them today around 3:30 PM! I'm applying MSTP though, and the timelines are bound to be a little different. Just wanted to let you guys know there is SOME movement on their front 🙂According to MDApps, Interviews at Michigan are going out.
Everyone who has gotten an interview so far has been MSTP, maybe that's a good sign for us MD-only applicants 😀This is true, I got an invite from them today around 3:30 PM! Thanks for the clarification!. my permanent address is indeed in michigan. I was actually considering trying to get a california residency, but after reading that most UCs have no preference, I thought I would use that for michigan hehe. For most state medical schools they look at where your permanent residence is. While I'm not certain specifically about MI and UofM's policies, if you have a permanent residence you'll probably retain your in state status!
And all the other MI-Resident-Heavy med schools in the state lol! Thanks for the clarification!. my permanent address is indeed in michigan. Their residency standards are pretty strict actually, you should check out their website for all the specifics but if you don't have any local immediate family that are also permanent residents you won't get residency for their purposes automatically. You'll have to jump through some extra hoops. Thanks for the clarification!. my permanent address is indeed in michigan. Thank you! Yes, it was an email and my interview date was sort of chosen for me, but this is totally made up for by the fact that you don't have to pay for housing/get partially reimbursed for airfare! Sure, I've got a 3.9/520 with okay ECs but good research. I'll be interviewing in late October as of now--hope to see you there!CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! That is so unbelievably exciting 🙂 I have also applied MSTP, but I think it will be a while before I might get an interview offer from here, if at all. Did you receive an email? Do you mind sharing any of your stats? Again, congrats!! Genuinely thrilled for you!
