2015-2016 University of Tennessee Health Science Center Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Only snail mail and both letters are sent out at the same time, survey and decision

Email said it should arrive in 2-7 business bays. I expect the standard 3 day wait for mail.

Also I updated my preferred address a few weeks ago and left them a voicemail letting them know they should send mail to that one... I hope they do because other schools have been sending letters to the old address and it delays the whole process which kills me.

Congrats and Good Luck!

Still waiting for an II here, IS reapplicant Lizzy ~71-72

Thanks, I appreciate it!

Don't worry, we're not even one third of the way through interview dates at this point!

To those who have interviewed at UTHSC already, how many interviewees were in your group?

Total of 8 in mine.

(Go 'Dores!) I had 8 too... in other news, anyone check the mail today? Ours doesn't run until about 4, at which time I'll be at work and won't be home until tomorrow. I really need to learn patience...

Does anyone know if they usually send out any secondaries this late in the cycle? Haven't received one yet and starting to worry.

Seems like the letter ended up at my permanent address two hours away. Here goes another 3 day wait for the mail to run again.

Congrats to everyone who's accepted! how did you guys feel about your interview afterwards?

It was actually one of my best/most fun interviews of the season so far. The interviewers were SUPER nice, laid back and it was just a really enjoyable conversation for both. I felt confident as far as the interview went after it was over.

Not sure if you're allowed to say this, but who interviewed you?

While my news is sitting at my parents house, afterwards I felt pretty good, but one of my interviewers really bothered me.

And of the two schools I have heard from, I got accepted immediately to a very well respected program where I felt like I didn't do very well in the interview. The second school waitlisted me despite it being the interview I felt best of out of 9. It's nearly impossible to tell how you do in interviews.

Are the acceptance letters in the same envelope as the survey?

I don't know if I'm allowed to say, so I'm going to err on the side of caution. But I will say they were physicians from very different backgrounds, one more clinically driven and the other more research focused (but we had several things in common which makes me think the matching is intentional or a great coincidence) which made for two very interesting conversations. Also my Memphis interview was on a Monday, but my second interview was on the following Thursday in my home town with a local physician which was neat.

No, the acceptance (possibly any decision?) comes in a large envelope. The survey is in a small standard envelope. Both were clearly labeled on the outside as to what they were (the big envelop had a "congratulations, acceptance inside" label on it so there wasn't much guess work to be done.

Acceptances come in a large envelope, and waitlist/rejection letters come in regular sized envelopes.

Nothing much to add, except empathy with those still waiting. I made a 500 on the new MCAT, 3.6 science GPA, 3.3 undergrad GPA, 4.0 graduate GPA + my graduate degree is in public health and I've spent the past 5 years in public health research, with experience including research and community service with UTHSC clinics. UT received my AMCAS application early September. I'll post if I hear anything at all. Thanks to everyone who is doing the same!

Our applications sound pretty similar! Hopefully we'll both get an II soon!

Have any OOS applicants received an interview?

Hoping some Memphis natives can chime in: how bad is traffic on those weekday mornings going into downtown? I have family over near Germantown and they offered to let me stay with them. I'm wondering if it would be fine or if I should opt for a hotel downtown... Thoughts?

You'll be fine coming from Germantown! Traffic can get a tad backed up in the mornings, but nothing like a huge city. I work downtown and I live on the east Memphis/Germantown border and it normally takes me about 30 minutes to get to work.

Okay that's about what I was figuring but just wanted to make sure I wasn't grossly underestimating how long it would take. Thanks!

I agree that you'll be fine. I'm from Collierville and it isn't too bad. Just use google maps and see the traffic trends for whatever day of the week your interview is on

I got my Secondary 12-NOV-15. I was worried that I'd never get one since I didn't submit my application until mid-October. Let's be honest here, how good are my chances of being waitlisted this late in the game? Anyone know? I'm 27, a combat veteran, and a TN resident if any of that means anything.

It all depends on when you get that II. Now that you're complete like the rest of us it doesn't mater, they send IIs based on who they want not time of application from what I understand
