Hey all, just wondering what the dress is like for the Friday afternoon events. The e-mail says business casual/casual but I believe I read in the previous year's thread that most people wore suits.

Most of the people who went to my Friday program wore suits, however those of us who just went to the afternoon program and didn't do the clinical rounds were buisness casual. Either attire is fine. Just whatever you feel more comfortable in. In my opinion, I think wearing a suit is overdoing it for the Friday afternoon program. You aren't being interviewed that day, nor are you being judged on your attire as long as it is appropriate and professional. I will say that for the morning clinical rounds they do recommend suit jackets but they aren't required. I believe that was on the email.

For the Friday rounds, would it be appropriate to wear a black, knee-length sleeveless dress? Or should I add a blazer on top?

I only have 1 suit, and I'd rather not wear it both days

It seemed like almost all of the girls opted to cover their shoulders when I went, so I'd add a blazer if I were you.

Would it be ok to wear the same suit both days? I'm not sure if I should be expecting to see the same faces from administration

I just wore a professional dress with my interview blazer. And then the full suit the next day. Or you could wear the suit both days but change the blouse.
Some women had a cardigan on instead of a blazer and that looked fine too. Definitely don't go with uncovered shoulders, and keep in mind that UT Southwestern likes really really cold temperatures indoors.

It probably not as important to wear a suit on Friday as it is just to dress well and appropriate for walking.

What rotations are available and how are you assigned?

Are we walking outside? I heard its raining this weekend in Dallas. Not sure if I have professional shoes that would survive a walk in pouring rain

You would not be walking outside except when you will be taking bus to the university hospital. All the buildings are interconnected.

Because the buildings are all interconnected we only walked outside for a short period on our way to the children's hospital, parkland, and the student center. The only time we took a bus was to Clements hospital during the Friday afternoon program. The walk to Parkland and the Children's hospital is a pretty long hike, so I would make sure to wear the most comfortable pair of professional shoes you can find!

The only time we stepped outside when I was there was to go to the Clements shuttle. We took the tunnels for everything else.

For those of you interviewing today and tomorrow when were your apps considered complete?

How helpful did you guys think the Friday rounds and afternoon program were? I'm currently scheduled for 11/14 interview but just received an II today for another school on 11/13 (can't reschedule this one). I'm deciding whether it would be worth it to reschedule UTSW interview for the week after so I can attend the Friday programs/if delaying for a week makes a difference...Thanks!

I thought it was really useful for myself, like how much I would want to go to UTSW. The Friday program, along with some of the Saturday stuff, really made me fall in love with the school! However, I think you should still try to do your interviews back to back if possible, since the pre-match period starts 11/15!

what are your stats? Im still waiting too
LizzyM ~72, IS

Edit: When confirming my interview date, I had to option to select several other dates, going from early November all the way to the first week of January. So there's still time.

Are there significant amounts of walking around on tours on both days of the interview program? They recommend comfortable shoes for Saturday, but how do the Friday afternoon (not attending morning rounds) tours compare?

It wasn't too much walking either day, I could have done both days on heels, but it's always nice to have flats and be able to change shoes. Bonus points if your flats match your blouse 😉

Haha, got it! And for the Friday afternoon program, is it okay to not wear a suit? Some on here have said it is, but I don't want to stand out if everyone else will be in more formal attire.

And how was traffic getting to the campus? I was looking into staying maybe ~25 minutes away (assuming light to medium traffic), and wanted to make sure that it wasn't a terrible idea.

The walking on Friday isn't bad. If I would've worn flats instead of what I thought were comfortable heels on Saturday, then I would say that the walking wasn't too bad for that day either. The walk to parkland and children's hospital is definitely a tiring and painful hike if you are not wearing comfortable shoes. The MS4's giving us the tours on Saturday also strongly encouraged us with heels to change into flats if we had them.

And you don't have to wear a suit for the Friday afternoon program if you don't want to. If you were doing rounds then suit jackets would be a little more appropriate and are recommended (according to the email). You might stand out though because most people do both programs so they are already wearing suits from the clinical rounds.

I second what @Cookie04 said. If you're not doing morning rounds, a nice professional dress will be perfectly fine without a blazer.

Thank you so much! Any idea about staying at a place that's farther away than the hotels on their lengthy list? Sorry about all the questions. 😳

Traffic in Dallas can get pretty bad but if you leave early enough you'll be fine so I don't see why it would be a problem.

I stayed with some family about 20 mins away from campus. Don't know if the fact that it rained really hard all weekend had something to do with it or not but there was hardly any traffic for me. You can use google maps to see how long the drive normally takes at a certain time of day on a certain day of the week if you're worried.

Awesome, that's what I wanted to hear. And thanks for the tip! I love Google Maps, but wanted to ask here juuust in case.

II today! So grateful and happy to be given such a wonderful opportunity! I have been wanting an interview from UTSW for so long!

Congrats! Stats? When when did you submit everything?

IS II a few hours ago!! So excited and honored to have the chance to interview here! Complete 8-15 and LizzyM ~ 73. Looks like there were a couple of dates left in December and then one in January available to me. Good luck everyone!

I noticed that the majority of opinions on the TBL/PBL thread were ~negative, and was then wondering how UT Southwestern was going about with incorporating TBL into the new curriculum. Though it'd be great to hear from current students about how they feel about it, anyone else with any idea can definitely chime in!

You'll hear from students a lot when you interview. The MS1s seem super happy with the new curriculum

Nah they love the new curriculum since over half of their grade is based on problem sets meaning they dont need to do as well on exams!

Haha, that's great! My question was kinda placing the cart before the horse, since I haven't even been interviewed yet, but I was just curious. Thanks guys!

Just got a II from here but they scheduled me for January. There's a date available in early December. Do you guys think it would be worth it to interview before pre-match ends?

Also, my LizzyM ~ 70 so I guess I'm not a super strong candidate for pre-match.

Congrats!! When were you complete?

8/28. Haven't gotten any other IIs from Texas schools except for TCOM so this was really a surprise.
We have similar stats and I haven't heard anything yet either. Hoping for good news soon!

II on 11-3-15

I was TMDSAS processed 7/28/15

Texas resident
cGPA:3.76
sGPA: 3.74
MCAT2015: 511

I am scheduled for January. I hear that it's better to interview earlier rather than later for this school, but hey... I'll take it. Good luck to all others who have interviewed or are going to interview here

So I need some advice guys
I got an II here for Jan 9
There is an opening for Dec 5, however, if I schedule for Dec, then I can't do the Friday rounds, due to another interview at TT. Would it be worth rescheduling and skipping the rounds for an earlier interview? Or should I attempt to reschedule my TT interview? Or just YOLO and keep Jan 9?

The rounds are for you. No bearing on your admission. So it comes down to personal preference. A December vs January interview date would have a negligible affect on your chances.

But with the early December interview being before pre match period ends, would it have any bearing on admissions? Sorry have read a lot of conflicting posts 🙁
