2015-2016 University of Vermont Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sorry if this has been gone over before, I'm not sure if I'm looking at the correct page of the portal.. it seems like there's no decision anywhere (complete in mid august) - Anyone know if the message below indicates they haven't reviewed me yet?:

"Your supplemental application has been received. Please note that it may take 6-8 weeks for all materials to be processed; at certain times of the year, it may take as many as 10-12 weeks. You should continue to periodically check on the status of your file through the Online Applicant Center. We appreciate your patience!"

That's what I've had since mid September also. I think it just means we're in the running still (or they forgot about us 🙁 )

Thanks xxabi! UVM, please don't forget about us.

Waitlisted today and interviewed 10/31. Not surprised because I felt horrible about my interview but was hoping my self-assessment was off because it's my 3rd waitlist (no MD acceptances 🙁) and I really loved the school and burlington.

just check and I am small pooled...I was complete about a month ago...anyone received II recently? If so, please tell us when you were small pooled. Thank you.

My portal status changed form "6-8 weeks" today to "officially rejected", no email or anything. Never even got small pooled.
+1. Never small pooled. Complete in august. Last day on this thread.

When did you interview?? I was Nov. 14th and they said we would not here until after the holidays :/

11/6. We had a small interview group (~35 interviewees), so I think you might hear as early as next week or the week after that!

A hearty congrats to all those recently accepted! For all of us still waiting, any ideas as to what the last interview date is? After 16 weeks I'm still waiting to be reviewed, wondering if their interview season will be over before my app gets any eyes on it...

Oh my goodness... finally under preliminary review. Submitted mid-August sooo 18 weeks later? Yay!
Same as of today, might've been 19 or 20 weeks for me though. Anyone know if there's still a chance for an II? Portal says 6-8 weeks for the review... I feel like factoring in the holidays that would put me at the very end of interview season if there are any spots left at all.

Congrats to all those Accepted!! I'll See Y'all in August!! Oh and for you outta staters, try to jump on the housing train as early as possible. Typically all the good apartments become available June 1st, and people are already snagging apartments for June now in December. I actually just threw down a deposit for mine last week. Check Craigslist if your trying to share a house, or check out the apartment websites if your trying to live in a building. For those living outta town and who arn't familiar with Burlington, I'd stay away from the old north end (a bunch of undergrads, and slumlords). Apartments on the South End and in the surrounding towns tend to be a bit nicer, and you get more bang for your buck. 🙂😉

Congrats to all those accepted! I've been wondering if update letters about activities and fall semester grades are accepted? I've been looking around and can't find any information explicitly saying they can or cannot be sent. Considering there's a "contact admissions" tab in the applicant center, I'd assume they are accepted, but I'm not completely sure.

I sent an update letter and received a concise thank your sending it in. I was a late September applicant and am hoping they'll have time to interview me.

UVM seems to be very open to updates, especially if they are new activities and grades.

Finally under preliminary review whoo! I was complete early August haha. Might as well get comfortable for another 6-8 weeks of waiting...

Question for the group: I was recently put on hold over questions about required coursework (after months of sitting at the "your application has been received" status). After emailing the admissions office, indicating that I planned to take organic chemistry lab in the spring or summer semester, they immediately moved me into the small pool. (I inadvertently did not put that I was planning on taking organic chemistry lab in my AMCAS primary app, instead tacking it on to one of my secondary app essays, which is where the confusion likely came in). This incident has me wondering if this mix-up might be holding me back at other schools. Has anyone else made a similar mistake with their application? Would people recommend a simple email or a phone call to schools to clarify my situation and intentions?

I can't see an email or phone call hurting you. If anything it's more of a correction to your application versus an update (so schools that don't take updates pre-interview should receptive to it).

Has anyone talked to admissions within the past few days? I've been trying to call them, but have been getting their voicemail. Guessing they're on break for the holidays.

I had a similar issue where I only took one general chemistry course, because my school combined Gen Chem I and II together into one course, so I didn't have the required amount of credit hours. When I thought that might be holding me back, I sent an email to every single school I applied to, although many of them have an update form on the actual secondary application when you log in to check. Those schools will ask you to submit any updates/explanations through the form on the secondary app. If you're really that worried, I would recommend doing the same thing.

However, most schools are not supposed to reject you or refrain from giving you an interview based on missing coursework... You can still be accepted to a school if you're missing a course, but you have to complete the course before you matriculate at the school (supposedly).

This school seems incredible, but I withdrew from my interview here just to save myself temptation over acceptances at schools that make more sense for my particular situation. This was hard! I hope someone else here gets my spot.

When did UVM last send out interview invites? haven't seen anyone post about it in awhile

Do you see this on the online applicant center? Mine just says secondary application complete.

Yes, on the online applicant center. It starts off as "We have received all application materials that you have submitted. Your application is under preliminary review. "

Been small pooled for months. Anyone know of anything to help get out?

I always try calling instead of emailing just because i feel it's a bit more personal. I had the same thing that you did, except it was because I didn't have any gen chem lab credits because I had AP Credits, and they took care of them too. So I just told them that and within a few seconds, my status was changed to being small pooled. Hopefully, interview soon... (they said I'll know within a month because interview cycle is coming close to an end, which is ridiculous seeing as I submitted in early August and just got through all this)

Have been waiting for the preliminary review for nearly 20 weeks now. Does anyone know if I can submit updates if my file's technically not complete?

Also, have there been any current students that have some insight in the admissions process here? I can understand reviewing applicants non-linearly but how can you decide to process applications non-linearly?

As of now, there are only three more interview dates.

That's crazy considering how many of us (including myself) were placed under preliminary review just before the Christmas break...! If we haven't been placed in the small pool yet, is it pretty much over?

I am sorry that this process is slow and frustrating, at times, but they are doing their best with the volume of applicants.

Complete late August and still being processed. Should I call. II's can be non linear I get that, but processing applications should be linear.

Also submitted late August and nothing over here either! Its me and my UVM secondary's 19 week anniversary this Friday and I plan on celebrating with a dramatic sigh and a single tear.

Are there people who interviewed in November and still haven't heard back yet?
