2015-2016 University of Wisconsin Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
According to a UWSMPH email just sent, no alternate offers are going to be made.
"The Entering Class of 2016 at the UW SMPH has been filled. It is unlikely that we will make new offers to anyone on the alternate list. We are letting you know so that you can make your future plans accordingly.
It is very difficult to turn away very qualified applicants. We want you to know that we wish you all the best as you pursue your future career in medicine."

It doesn't seem like much WL movement overall.

Ahhhhh. I'm afraid the absolute worst has come.
Feeling rather morbid.
As for the few who were even CLOSER to the top than I was - can't imagine how they feel.
(and I don't think there was ANY movement in WL)

Oh well,
Personally, I'll be around, hoping for the extreme unlikely scenario
but that's unlikely hahah.
Anyhow,
for those who had UW as the only last hope: good luck on your next cycle.
for those that have another adm in pocket: good luck wherever you go!

Never on SDN has there been so little WL movement from UWSMPH. Not even remotely compared to past years.

They were pretty amazing with recruitment, so acceptances of offers may be high. Yet I am sure there will be WL movement soon. You can't beat statistic over the years.

With the curriculum change taking effect next year, I'm sure it was tough for admissions to gauge the number of applicants that would end up choosing UW. It sounds like they accepted the same number of students as in previous years, but people must be very excited about the change. The first sign of the increased interest was second look day - there were ~160 students at second look day this year (compared to closer to 100 last year). It's unfortunate for those hoping for a spot of the WL. I wish you all the best of luck in your training!

Hello everyone, I am looking for a roommate to share a 2Bedroom unit that is a short walk to the health sciences learning center. If interested, please PM me!

Could some of you who are in-state tell me what it takes to get accepted from in-state???

Like if I have a 3.85 GPA, 300+ volunteering hours, like 75-100 shadowing hours, and then do good on the MCAT, would I have a damn good chance to get in or no?

It really comes down to the intangibles. I know another guy in-state who had a 4.0 and a much higher MCAT than me and got waitlisted. I had about your basic stats, but I also really thought deeply about why I wanted to be a physician and worked very hard to shape my experiences and essays to reflect that passion. I would get a lot of feedback on your personal statement, study hard for the MCAT, and work on interviewing well. About 50% of in-state applicants get interviews and then no one really knows what happens.

Good luck! I am by no means an expert but I hope that helps a little 🙂

Not sure if the incoming class has access to Oasis yet, but they've released a tentative exam schedule for the fall:
Tuesday 8/16 - Orientation begins
Monday 9/5 - Labor Day, no classes
Thursday 9/8 - Patients, Professionalism & Public Health OSCE
Friday 10/7 - Body in Balance Exam #1
Friday 11/4 - Body in Balance Exam #2
Thursday 11/24 and Friday 11/25 - Thanksgiving Holiday, no classes
Friday 12/9 - Body in Balance Exam #3
Monday 12/12 - Body in Balance OSCE
Friday 12/16 (morning) - Body in Balance Final Exam

Classes begin again on January 3; Spring break is the week of March 20, 2017.

Sorry if you've already seen this stuff. Hope you are all relaxing, having a great summer, and doing absolutely nothing school related! 😉

Does anybody know what the schedule will be like during orientation week? A family member is getting married on the weekend of the 20th, and I'm trying to decide if I will be able to attend!

If it is anything like last year, you shouldn't have much studying to do that first weekend.

This was quite popular last time I posted it in ~January, so I thought I'd add the updated/complete version. This is all 32 people (at least that I saw) who were accepted at UWSMPH and posted about it on SDN, including their interview date. I'm sure some people will find it useful to gauge turnaround times in future years. Can't wait to meet classmates this fall! Hope everyone is having a great summer!
