For all those accepted, would you please state your stats and if you are IS or OOS? Not sure if this will make me feel any better or worse, but I am trying to figure out why VCU doesnt love me as much as I love them 🙁
 
II today. I'm an OOS applicant and I received the "may" status December 6th. I was complete around 7/23. For those still waiting, there's hope. On my portal it looks like they are scheduling as early as 1/4.
 
for those accepted on 10/15: did you receive a letter in the mail at all? or is the portal the only means of communicating the acceptance? thanks!

Nothing by snail mail. All communication by email. Portal used to accept and decline acceptance.

So, from my combing through last year's thread, it looks like if you were passed over you were more likely to end up on the wait list or rejected come March. Which is a super bummer 🙁 But there are mentions in older threads of someone interviewing early in the cycle and getting in at the February or March dates, so it ain't over till it's over.
 
Hi All! Not sure if this was already answered. Does anyone know if people with the "may" status generally get II or rejected? I'm not sure if I should take it as a good or bad thing... thanks! and happy holidays !

looks to be a pretty good mix of "never interviewed and rejected" and "interviewed" after receiving the may status. I personally got the may status and received an II about a week later, whereas others I've seen have waited several weeks. I think it's a better status than some of the other ones (read: don't give up hope 🙂) good luck!

I didn't hear any hard numbers, but they did say the OOS list moves much more than the IS, and overall movement is less than it was in cycles past due to people keeping their first acceptances.

I was thinking about this the other day... If I didn't get in this last acceptance, what makes me believe anything will change for next acceptance day? Now that I know about the trend you found from last year's thread, it makes even more sense. It is depressing, but at least I won't be unnecessarily optimistic.

Yeah, I was looking for some sort of hope after being passed over for two acceptance dates, but I didn't find it in last year's thread. I was pretty optimistic too getting an II so early on, sigh. I still have *some* hope for future dates, but I'm also trying to look at it realistically. Oh well, still holding out for an acceptance elsewhere 😳

Ugh, yeah, but it's not over till they've officially given us the boot, so we just have to hang in there! If I've learned anything about this process, it's that it can be wildly unpredictable, so trends and stats aren't 100% of the story.
 
My biggest complaint was everyone else raved about how conversational their interviews were that day, mine felt like an absolute interrogation with lots of awkward pauses and very uptight. Don't really feel like I completely was able to show the interviewer who I was as an applicant and got asked a bunch of health-care related questions.

Either way, I will hope for the best!
 
Well if you are passed up for acceptance (like I was) that means your ranking average of committee review is below other people. So all you can hope is that future interviewees score low enough so that you move higher up the list, I suppose.

Not sure of the exact numbers or the IS/OOS split, but I believe that some classes have had roughly 50% of the drawn from the alternate list.
 
Has anyone that applied MD/PhD heard back??? I got the auto-generated portal acceptance for the MD program, but haven't heard anything about where I stand on the MD/PhD... even though they said I'd hear back by Dec 15th. I tried contacting the office, but it seems that they're out for the holidays...

If I'm not accepted MD/PhD, I don't intend to matriculate MD-only, so I'm conflicted whether to put the $100 deposit down through the portal in the next two weeks. The unexpected silence is making me incredibly nervous that there's bad news in store!

still haven't received a secondary from this school.....is that a silent rejection? 🙁
 
I'm considering withdrawing from this school, but I'm not entirely sure. I interviewed a while back, but found the day to be fairly unimpressive. For one, my interviewer asked me a couple of inappropriate questions, and my interview group witnessed a faculty member publicly telling off some medical students during our tour. I am very fortunate to have gained an acceptance elsewhere, but I feel like it would be a bad idea to withdraw from this one in the (perhaps very unlikely case) that it might end up being cheaper. I guess if I haven't heard back by now it is unlikely that I will be accepted anyhow..

Do you like the place where you gained an acceptance better? If so, then maybe it is a good idea to withdraw? A lot of people have different attitudes about a school, and whatever is the best school for them is the one they should go to. If you're already hesitant on the vibe you're getting, then maybe it's not the place for you. If you live near the area, why don't you go take a tour of VCU and talk to some current medical students before you make your final decision? Then you'll get an idea of the school. If this isn't feasible, then think really hard if you really like the school you're accepted into. If you do, then you already have your answer!

@takeonme I just recently joined SDN so haven't scrolled through the posts, but did you happen to call the school and ask them why it's taking so long to receive secondaries and then they told you the reviewers have a lot on their plate- I am only asking because I am considering calling them tomorrow as its been six+ weeks since I have been waiting! Thanks!
 
Anyone have any luck getting interviews with priority #3?

I did not call but I submitted end of August and just got one so its been a really long time... Not sure if they're backed up or if I was originally passed up and then they decided they would take a chance on me

LOL only 6 weeks? I've been waiting for over 18. 😛 Yes, I called and the way their initial review process works is that your primary is submitted to a single reviewer who decides whether or not you get a secondary. So how long it takes to receive a secondary depends on how long it takes for your reviewer to get to your application. For me, it took about 14/15 weeks for it to even be checked out, and has apparently been checked out ever since (according to my call last week). The office keeps assuring me that I haven't been rejected.

Feel free to call for an update, but they won't give you that much information. Plus, most people wait 6-12 weeks fora status update (so it hasn't even been that long for you), and also their offices closed on the 18th for the holidays...so no one will be there to answer your call!
