2015-2016 Yale University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am doing my best not to hope now, especially given all the waitlists/possible rejections I've received everywhere else. I plan to have lots of strong drinks if I hear bad news next week. There's brandy in my kitchen cupboard in anticipation of the occasion. 😛

If you accurately diagnosed that yourself, you should put it in an application update.

It's pretty bad when the thought "Damn, if I could win a Nobel prize in the next few months, that would make an awesome update to send " has semi-seriously crossed my mind before bed

for the yale financial aid app, do we select 2015/2016 or 2016/2017? it says app year so i think it's the first one. idk.

I think we're applying for aid for the 2016/2017 year.

you're right. "All incoming and returning students applying for financial assistance must complete the 2016-2017 application form, which is available on our website."

Those are more or less the thoughts going through my head. Really hoping for good news next week!

FYI, just heard from the admissions office that as of 3/4, they plan on releasing decisions mid-next week, but won't commit to a specific date.

Also, second look weekend is April 7-9th.
So we still don't know if its Tuesday or Thursday I guess?

We don't know. My money is on Tuesday, although I've told my lab colleagues to bring strong drinks to console me on Thursday if I hear bad news.
Yup I've convinced some of my friends to skip class either Tuesday or Thursday afternoon and go to the local pub with me around noon (I figure decisions will be out late morning). Benefits of still being in college and Senior Spring lol. If I'm rejected or accepted- decent amount of drinking...if I'm waitlisted- contemplate life and existence looking out the window since future is still uncertain. Solid plan.

Why is Wednesday out of the mix?
For the past several years, all admissions decisions have been released on Tuesday, which this year would be the 8th. However, many people have said that the 10th was mentioned as the release date this year, hence Thursday.

what a unique thing to be hoping for in this thread. 🙂

Jk, best of luck to all 🙂
Haha, yeah whatever, Yale's our safety anyway, amirite? 😛

Yup. Did that....and the Yale fight song. Bulldog bow wo...oh god I need something to distract me from this

I thought I'd go a little unorthodox and asked for admissions at other schools on the seal. That way the ghosts don't think I'm desperate...... :bullcrap:

I'm an MS1 and I have recently been reflecting on how anxious I was this time last year. (You can read last year's application thread for proof. 😛)

I'm afraid I don't have much to say that can make the wait more bearable, but I do know that you will get through it. At this time next year, you will more than likely be at a wonderful medical school freaking out about behind you are on your coursework, laughing with your classmates about how panicked you were a year ago, and marveling at how far you have come.

To those who just got silent rejections, I am sorry. 🙁 That is the one thing I dislike about Yale admissions and really wish they would change - well, that and non-rolling admission. 😀

I was rejected from my top choice medical school pre-interview. To be perfectly honest, there are times that I still feel bitter about it. However, I am also sure that I am doing as well or better at Yale than I would be at Evil West Coast Institution. I am not religious and I don't believe in fate, but I ended up where I was meant to be. No matter what happens in the next couple of weeks, you will get there too!
=D

what does religion have to do with fate and isn't fate being where you were "meant to be"?
Sorry to be "that guy," but please don't derail this thread in which many of us are anxiously waiting for admissions decisions by critiquing someone else's belief/unbelief in religion or fate.

The Lounge and the Sociopolitical forums are great areas in which to have those discussions. I really do not want to deal with anxiously checking this thread only to find an extended discussion of something unrelated to Yale admissions, especially not this week.

Yale Adcom 1
"Damn, well that kid clearly's got some balls"

Yale Adcom 2
"So what should we do?"

Yale Adcom 1
"I said he's got balls, not brains"

Students run these groups. Doubtful anyone older than 30 is an admin. You'd just have some MS1 chuckle at the notification that someone already wants to join. Then they go back to studying and nobody remembers lol

Well then, it'd be an easy 5 bucks for you, wouldn't it?

Maybe they run these groups later but right now the 'admin' of the group is definitely someone in the YSM admissions administration. I have heard that name before.

Anyone have any suggestions for whether I should be panicking tomorrow night or Wednesday night?
I think the state of knowledge right now is:

Silverman told some people that decisions would be March 10.

Some people, myself included, believe that this is kind of a self imposed deadline by which they want to notify us.

Historically, decisions have gone out on a Tuesday.

I'm light of the above, my strong suspicion is that Tuesday March 8 is D-day, so tomorrow night would be the appropriate night to start panicking ;-)

According to my almost arbitrary train of thought, 70% chances- Decision Tuesday, 30%- Decision Thursday. It will probably be between 10:00-1pm EST. Well soon we will know how accurate/inaccurate this is. The 38-39% Post II acceptance rate does worry me though. Not super high chances of success. 🙁 We will see I guess!

I think Barbara was the person who showed us where our interviews were haha

Barbara Watts is the individual who, along with Director Silverman, runs the admissions office. As of now, there aren't any students who run the group, and I don't believe there normally are for a bit. Eventually, the control of the group is turned over to the Medical Student Council and then to elected first-year representatives, but that is a ways off.

On a side note, once again would not try to worry too much about when they will be coming out! They'll come when they come and admissions is working hard to ensure that they come out perfectly and without a hitch. (To me, that's the more important part so some applicants aren't fretting while other applicants get emails.)
