2016-2017 George Washington University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My status:
Your application to The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences is complete and has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. To date, you have been very very very bad this year and need to be flogged. You are so bad. Files are re-reviewed by the committee periodically but we will spend extra private time with yours. So bad this year! We do sincerely appreciate your interest in our program. Thank you for your nasti.

anyone know if this typically leads to an II?

Mine said the same thing last year and I was the first one accepted with a full scholarship. They also made a deal with Harvard where they transferred me over and put me on a fast track 7 year med school + residency program for Derm at MGH in Boston.

You should be good.

do they outright reject anyone? or is everyone on pre-II hold lol

Hey everyone! I have an interview on Tuesday with GW SMHS & it's my top choice for med school! Can anyone who has already interviewed tell me a little more about how the day goes/how your interview was? I'm so incredibly nervous! I don't want to screw it up! Thanks!! 🙂

It was very relaxed. You walk into the building from the courtyard and check-in. There, you wait with other interviewees until someone from admissions comes down to get everyone.

I'm a little fuzzy on the details but...

The majority of the day is spent in a conference room. There were informational talks, we went on a tour, then we ate lunch and after that we were called for our interviews (from the conference room). The interviews were mostly held in private rooms in the library but one of mine was in a dean's office. One is with a student.

Try not to get too antsy waiting for your interviewer, just relax. Everyone is nice and they want to answer your questions. The interview questions weren't intense (but they seemed pre-selected) and the students are welcoming.

Have fun! I think it was enjoyable overall. PM me if you have specific questions.

It was indeed low stress. You have a faculty interview where you get traditional interview questions, and a student interview that is primarily conversational. I think both were closed file. I really enjoyed my interview day overall.

I've joined the hold club. Complete 9/13-ish. Is it a good sign I got some sort of response (even if not the most desired one) in <2 weeks?

No one knows. From an outsider's perspective, that can be looked at both ways.

Just checked my status. Had an August mcat). I submitted my secondary on 9/1.
I am on hold after review

Did a little digging this morning and saw that a lot of people got IIs after hold for re-review during the last weeks of October... at that point no one had been rejected after hold yet too

Thank you for your research! any idea of what the status was for those who were eventually rejected?

I didn't see anything about it, but it's probably an email. Huge rejection wave came November 5 last year. Also people noted that their status changed from "on hold for re-review" to some sort of new "undergoing review" status when they were being re-reviewed

THERES HOPE FOR US ON HOLD PEEPS YAAAS

Congrats!!!

Yeah guys the homie that got an II off of hold has a ****in PhD, I'm not gonna get my hopes up too much!

Joining the on hold group 😱 complete 09/13

For people who have had interviews, when is the earliest acceptances are sent out? Thank you

I could not help but notice your signature, 16 IIs?! Wow. That is so awesome! I've been in a realm of silence hah

Thanks! I know that it's much easier said than done, but you probably have another couple of months before you have to officially start worrying about no IIs yet. I was browsing through the no invite panic thread from last year, and I saw people interviewing as late as February and possibly later. The worst part of applying is all the waiting at various stages of the process. Just try to sit tight, and it will just be a matter of time before the first one comes in.🙂

Agreed. I personally had interviews in March and April last year. Unfortunately I did not make it in from the waitlist, but I know that people do get accepted outright from those interviews and you still have a chance late in the game

I'm glad to see you're getting off to a better start this year! I know that by SDN standards that 2 II doesn't seem like a lot, but I know several people who are applying this year and non of them have yet to receive any. Also, when I've gone to interviews, most people were on their first one or had only gone to 1 or 2 others. Just don't get down when you see people getting flooded with IIs here. You're doing pretty good by normal standards.🙂

When were you put on hold the first time if you don't mind me asking? Was also complete around the same time and put on hold.. maybe there is hope!!!
It doesn't give me any dates ..all I remember is that as soon as I was no longer under review, my status said I was on hold for re-review.
