2016-2017 Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey guys, I ended up calling this afternoon and was told by a very nice woman that she "wished they would stop saying that a complete email would be sent in the application received email because for some reason not everyone is getting a complete email". I was basically told that whatever your status says in the portal is accurate and not to worry about whether or not you have received an email indicating that the application is complete.

According to the MSAR, they interviewed 842 people last year out of 5366 apps. Is anyone else surprised by the low amount of IIs reported here thus far?

Not at all.
1) only a small percentage of applicants will report their II on SDN
2) Interviews continue until early next year

Does anyone know if the numbers on MSAR (class size, interviewed, matriculated, etc) include students from FlexMed, or are all the MSAR numbers for regular entry students?

While this is true, many other schools that interview similar numbers of applicants on similar timelines have had much greater movement reported. This is a pretty tiny thread. Still, there are a lot of unknowns and sdn school threads are hardly a complete look at the process. I suppose there is no sense in overthinking the matter. All things in due time and what have you.

IDK why but I posted on school-specific threads for some other schools after receiving II, but not for this school. Anyways, my previous post was meant to encourage people still waiting for interviews as it's very early in the cycle. People usually start worrying after Thanksgiving.

Does anyone know how long Sinai's interview season is. I know they do rolling and my interview is not until November 30th. Just curious if this is a "late" interview and how disadvantageous this may be.

On my interview day, they mentioned that the first decision will not come out until November or December.

I see, that's good to know. Do you know what month they conduct interviews until? I see you said above something about it being until "early next year."

Google says usually until Jan for MD/PhD. Not sure for MD

also for the overnight hosting - is this recommended for all students or just the ones coming in from far away (the email didn't specify). i'd really like to do it but i dont want to take someone else's spot

What's the best/cheapest way to get to Mt Sinai from the EWR airport?

Do it if you need it, but honestly if you already live in NY don't bother

Yep thats what I figured

Id recommend NJ transit into penn station (15-20 mins if you plan ahead) then subway (C train) to 96th then cross-town bus 1 stop through the park or walk. Or just cab from penn station if you have the money.

II! Complete 7/22. Does anyone know the last date Mt. Sinai interviews for the season?

Have people interviewed yet? What's the interview format and how was interview day like?

Its just two 101 interviews with a faculty member and a student or two faculty members. They give you breakfast and lunch with students and a tour of the hospital. Pretty standard IMHO.

G'day folks. An logistical question about travel to Mt.Sinai - Icahn. Which airport, EWR or LGA offers the most convenient public transport to Mt.Sinai? I am selecting flights for an interview. Thank you
