I would have to disagree with this statement. While it's often said that there are "no right or wrong answers" there certainly are. There are things they are clearly looking for and preparing by simulating MMIs can be quite helpful. For example, some questions/prompts provide incomplete, suggestive information and the graders will be looking to see if you notice, acknowledge, and consider the nuances of the situation. Practicing such scenarios definitely helped me quickly identify and address such nuances in my MMIs. Furthermore, practicing role play scenarios helped me feel quite comfortable "acting" out difficult, socially awkward conversations, something that does not come easy to most people.

There are definitely wrong answers. There are also multiple right answers.

In addition to the above, some MMIs use traditional interview questions in an MMI format, so I'd prepare for those as well (FWIW, I haven't interviewed at NYU specifically yet)

I agree completely! Though I haven't interviewed here, I have had an MMI elsewhere and I found doing "mock" MMI prep with my friends/relatives did a lot in helping me prepare. I had them simulate the same conditions as I was expecting for the MMI, and it helped me become more concise and to the point when giving my answers, all under a time constraint. If you know someone who's done an MMI, I would recommend that you ask them to do some mock ones with you as prep for your actual interview. I would also recommend brushing up on ethics, especially medical ethics.

Honestly, as much as I prepped, it didn't amount to much.
You have 2 minutes to read the prompt, then 5 minutes to talk about it, and then you going on to the next section. It happens so fast that you just go with your gut response.
All of my prepping primarily made me nervous as hell for 2 weeks before the day.
I enjoyed the MMI overall. Just be yourself and answer the questions/scenarios. Don't overthink it everyone.

Is it a fixed and timed 5 minutes per station after the initial prompt reading?
Some sites say its 8 minutes so I'm just wondering how NYU does it

For each station it's 2 mins to read the prompt and then 5 minutes in the room to talk. Also chill. They will give you all the instructions you need once you get there.

Considering that you can read all about the MMI format and timing on NYU's website (http://www.med.nyu.edu/school/md-admissions/mmi-faqs)... I don't think anyone is giving away any secrets. Not to mention that nobody mentioned any specific prompts (although they change the prompts every time anyways, so that would be pointless).
 
Anyone know if updates should just be uploaded or can be emailed to the admissions office?

So I'm assuming that NYU is no longer rolling? Some people have said that they were told NYU is no longer rolling, and others have said that NYU is still rolling, but I haven't seen anyone post acceptances on here.

*I'm basing my assumption on last year's thread, but it's possible NYU is later than usual this year.
**Double edit - checked back and it seems most of the first acceptances came in December, so nvm, lol.

They specifically said during my interview day that this year they are trying something new and going non-rolling and will hand out all decisions in January.

For what it's worth, I sent them an ITA email, didn't receive any sort of confirmation or anything but received an II within a few days. So idk if the II was due to the ITA email or they just got to my app. But I think you should send one in if you live far away and are going to be near NYC.

Ok thank you! I've been hearing so many different things and their website says it's still rolling, but I think that someone probably just forgot to update.

Well if you look on page 6, some people heard one thing and others something else. When I interviewed, they didn't say if it was still rolling or not - additionally, their website says that it is still rolling. Previous years also seem to indicate that acceptances are released starting the first week of December, some as early as October. I'm just pointing out that maybe the nays have it.

I did the same thing, never got a response or II. So who knows.

True about last year. But several people (including me) heard at interviews, that this year they are specifically "trying something new"... and not doing rolling. I think it's a safe bet that we'll all hear back in January 🙂
 
To resolve the "is NYU rolling or not?" question because it's really been bothering me I recently stood outside of the admissions office with a boombox playing "Let Me Love You" by Mario. After many "**** yous" and "why are you doing this to us?" by bystanders, I decided to hold up my homemade sign asking "When will we find out?" Unbeknownst to me of others' circumstances, a female came out of the admissions office and said "tell Chad my answer is no. I told him to respect my space and this is ****ing ridiculous. Did he hire you?!" To which I responded with an emphatic "yes" and ran away.

Moral of the story: be patient, you may ruin someone's life.

There is one station that is 12 minutes instead of 5 where you are asked traditional-style questions!

The rest of the MMI seemed pretty standard. LOVED my visit -- the interview day was super well organized, facilities were beautiful and the students were awesome! It actually made me nervous before my MMI when I realized how much I was liking this school!

It is mostly closed file, but if the admissions committee has specific questions for you based on something in your application, they will provide the traditional interviewer with those tailored questions and maybe a little background on whatever they are asking about.

Hey buddy, Congrats on the interview!! I interviewed here recently and the school is amazing!! you will love it!

and make sure you read about the MMI format! It feels a little different than traditional format. PM me if you want some pointers!
 
Does NYU do PBL? It's really hard to tell on the website. Seems like a mix of PBL, lectures, self-teaching, etc, but I can't find a definitive answer. Can anyone who's had an II already tell me what they said about the curriculum? Thx!

They had something that sounded similar to PBL, but wasn't called that (may have been called "conferences?" -- I think it started with a C). The students mentioned that they liked it and it sounded like it met once or twice a week, but the school didn't really seem to emphasize it in their presentation as much as other schools may emphasize PBL so I'm not sure how prevalent it is.
