2016-2017 Oregon Health & Sciences University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Regardless of their admissions policy and my frustrations, I just love them and want them to love me back!

Exactly. at a certain point, one wonders why anyone really cares so much. all that matters is II, interview, result.

go read a book or cast your vote early, ya'll

Does anyone know what the breakdown is:

20% gpa, mcat
40% MMI
40% ______????

Does the MMI include the one-on-one interview??

Thanks!

Still waiting to hear back post-interview. Urghhh I'm starting to think my interviewer left the country. Anybody else still in limbo from 9/21 or 9/23?

I'm in limbo still from 9/23! Glad to know I'm not the only one!

Thanks! 🙂

Close but not quite right according to what they told us

20% GPA/MCAT (used "only to break ties when all else is equal)
40% MMI
40% One on One interview + non-academic parts of your application

II today! Exactly 6 weeks to process, definitely one of my top choices!

I submitted my secondary in july and it still hasn't been processed! 🙁

Any IS applicants still waiting to hear about an interview? I was marked complete in early September.

Seems like they're moving extremely slow this year. Much much slower than in years past.

Does any current student wanna lay out a rough outline of what your weekdays / weekends are like when you're not in class/ lab/ preceptorship? I'm curious about you guys' lifestyle!

Hey! Current MS1 here! We have exams every Friday over the stuff that we learned throughout the week. Everyone does things a bit differently but I basically have my weekends free. I put my backpack down Friday afternoon and don't pick it up until later Sunday evening but some people don't like to do that. I generally spend my weekday evenings studying because I don't do much over the weekends but to me it's totally worth it. I definitely have time to go do fun things over the weekend and I like to do my volunteer activities over the weekend as well. And I've done well on exams so far so it hasn't caused me any problems! Hope that helps! If you have any other questions let me know 🙂

Thank you so much 🙂 Do students get together for happy hour during the week (currently working and it's been a fun aspect of my work life)? Or as you say, are most people busily studying? Also, do you find time to exercise/ have time for yourself during the week? Thanks again 🙂

I would say some students may get together for happy hour Monday or Tuesday but generally not toward the end of the week. I'm done with my school day at 5 most days and I have enough time to go to the gym and eat dinner for sure. But after that (say from 6 or 6:30 to 11) I'm studying. Depending on what group you're in you could have either Monday afternoon, Tuesday morning, or Thursday afternoon for independent study which means you have 4 extra "free hours" for whatever you want-be that more studying, gym time, etc. Also the gym here is amazing and they have great classes! Med school is super hard and stressful but everyone here is great and willing to help you manage your schedule to get that "work/life balance" 🙂

You are not alone. There are quite a few of us with silence since that time frame. I have already called admissions once and asked for a timeframe -- they said 8 weeks max unless your interviewer "leaves the country or is overwhelmed with clinical responsibilities."

my 8 weeks is tomorrow and I'm not holding my breath. If someone else wants to call and get an updated timeframe, I wouldn't be mad 😛

Put on hold today. Interviewed 9/23.

On the portal it says that "applicants put on hold will remain on hold until April 30."

That is a change from years past, no? Do other people's portals say this, or just mine? That REALLY sucks because this is my top choice, but if they are really not going to release decisions until April 30, at all, its going to be very difficult for me to plan a cross-country move with my spouse in just 2 months.

Hold for me too :/ although I was expecting this, it would be super nice to know.

My portal says the same thing. I think they told us the April 30 thing at the interview day. I also really wish it weren't so far out because it is really difficult to have to wait and see what your plans need to be when someone else is relying on you (spouse/s.o.)... and if it's a waitlist decision that means even longer!

Ah well, at least I will be done obsessively checking my portal for the next 5.5 months (wow that is a really long time...)

I'm sorry to hear that. When did you interview?

9/23. And it's alright! They said they put 80% of people on hold though, so it's not like being wait listed or anything. It would just be nice to not have to wait another 5+ months!

I interviewed 9/21 and have still heard nothing. Ugh...ha.
