2016-2017 Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (Foster) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The email is saying that the interview finishes around 3:00 PM. I want to buy a ticket for a flight out the same day, but it's at 5:30 PM. For anyone that interviewed, did the day end around 3 pm? I know that they have a shuttle that takes you to the airport too.
Yeah. The latest interviews will end at 3. They were really good at getting people to the airport afterwards. You should be fine with a 5:30PM flight. Plus the El Paso airport isn't huge.

What the interviews like here? Traditional interview style or more conversational?
Very conversational. Not stressful.

So did a batch of IIs go out today, or was it just a few people?

So, there were like 8 spots for one date and 15 for another date when I first checked. Like 1 hour later, the interview date with 8 slots was full, so I just took the slot that still had 15. A new one opened up that had 22 slots. So Im guessing 22 ppl are interviewed at a time. So, Im thinking at least 8 went out today based off this reasoning lol

II as well! LizzyM 67-68. Submitted late May, complete early June

Congrats to you!!!! You've been very supportive to everyone on the Tx threads; so glad you got one from here🙂
If I was complete with my secondary August 1st here, do you think it's too early to expect one from here?

Haha I try to be! It's a rough process! And no, not at all! I just happened to be late in the interview game. From what I have seen, people complete early August have gotten IIs at other TX schools!

The II I got I was complete a little earlier, so maybe some more will come haha. Is this your first one?

First one IS. I currently have one OOS MD interview as well. But it's a relief to see that someone in Texas liked my app too!

Same here! 1 OOS and 1 IS. Do you mind sharing where you got your OOS? I applied to about 15, but I'm not expecting too much since gyngyn has said not that many Texans leave.

Does anyone know if the interviews here are open file? Like can they see grades, MCAT, recs, etc?

For people who have interviewed or are currently attending, any tips??? Also, I know University Medical Center of El Paso is the associated hospital. Does anyone have any points on this hospital? There is minimal to no info online.

did anyone else get a letter from Dr. Richard Lange (the dean of Paul L Foster medical school and then president if the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center-El Paso) saying that he's delighted that you've chosen to interview at the school today and basically saying we hope you have an enjoyable visit on your interview day? I was wondering bc this letter was written and postmarked 2 weeks after my interview date...so i'm confused and worried about the whole "delighted that you have chosen to visit our school TODAY" thing...

I'm pretty sure everyone who interviewed gets that, I wouldn't read too much into it.

Can anyone speak to what it is like to live in El Paso?

I love it. The city is built around the mountain so you're never more than 10 minutes from a state park. Downtown has been heavily invested in, definitely improved over the last five years. Go to a chihuahuas game if you get a chance, it's a neat part of the El Paso community.

i was worried bc it said thank you for interviewing today and it was dated more than a week after i had actually interviewed...

EDIT: to anyone on here that has also gotten this letter- was it dated properly for you guys?

Guys I'm trying to get my secondary application in.

I'm wondering if you have any comments on:

Please describe any personal experiences or disadvantage (educational, financial or otherwise) and their significance to you in your pursuit of a medical degree. If not applicable, please so indicate.

So basically any experience or disadv that made you want to go to medical school?

or any experiences that result in growth and will make you a good capable doctor down the road?

I think you can go in either one of those directions with this question, tbh.

@Timmy248

Anyone who completed their secondary app here, would you be kind enough in looking at my essay? I got one advice from someone saying that I didn't answer the prompt correctly but after writing 3 TMDSAS essays, I didn't want to again talk about disadv type of stuff..

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I completely missed this, but I can. PM me and I can read it and let you know what I think.
