For OOSers, did everyone fly into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport? And can rental bars be driven onto base?

edit: rental cars!

I would use the metro. Getting a car around DC is going to be a pain. Medical Center on the red line is literally right across from the base and there is a shuttle that will pick up/drop off between metro and USUHS

If you see this USUHS please let me have a good Halloween weekend! Friday before Nov. in 2014 was a major acceptance day for a lot of Septembers... How many of us are left? I haven't heard and I was Sept 29th... starting to worry a bit.

Best,
A crazy pre-med that has USUHS as his number 1 spot

THANK YOU!

No call 🙁

Would interviewing at this point be just for a wait-list seat?

I'm not 100% sure about right now but the student I stayed with when I interviewed in September interviewed in November and he said it was a mix, but mostly wait-list spots. Although I don't know how he knew that.. but... there is usually a lot of wait-list movement so I don't see that as a reason to not interview.

Interviewed October 6. I know it's only been 3 weeks, but the wait is driving me insane :arghh::arghh::arghh:

I'm Sept. 29th... imagine my insanity!!! In previous years they had the committee meet every Tuesday to decide things.

Well for the newcomers to the wait game this is primetime 4:30 est - 5:30 est... the calls have been coming during that time this year so far. They have called at 8 est also and sometimes on Thursdays during his lunch break... sorry I analyzed this deeply in my crazed patience.

So no calls since Thursday last week? Any hold letters?

Anyone who has interviewed... Did you send thank you letters via email or hand written notes?

I was planning to send hand written to the staff I have addresses for. I got caught up in the moment and didn't get the address for one of my interviewers so may just send an email. I spoke with a friend who is a second year and she sent hand written.

I sent handwritten notes to my interviewers care of the main admissions address. I don't think there's any advantage to handwritten over email, just my personal preference.

I didn't send any thank-you notes and I don't think it affected me negatively. Although when I'm not swamped with the devil's chemistry (PChem), I usually do handwritten on a nice thank you card with a picture of the rotunda and write w/ one of those G2 pens.

I flew into Reagan stayed with a host so I just Ubered from the airport to her apartment which was very close to USU, my host dropped me off in the morning which was very convienent because she knew right where to drop me off! I think you have to apply for a parking pass if you plan on driving on your own ? Don't know if you have done that or not?

I didn't send any to USUHS. For the one school I did send one to, I emailed it. Especially if they give you their email, email should be just fine. Especially when they might meet with the Admissions Committee before your letter gets there if you mail it.

I'm on pre-II hold. Does anyone know how likely movement from the hold to II pool is?

Hi I was accepted a couple weeks ago and sent hand-written thank yous after my interview in September. If you don't have the address write
[Name]
"C/O" then the admissions address that's on the folder

BUT if your faculty interviewer didn't work at USUHS (mine was at NIH), I would try to look up their address where they actually work, because my letter to him was returned to sender the first try

So does anyone know when we actually have to fill out the paperwork online for our security clearance? I emailed them and got this:

Hello Mr. BunnyMan,

You will not receive instructions from security as we process the paperwork here in the office. If anything were to be missing then we would contact you. If everything is cleared we will not contact you and you will receive an unconditional letter in the mail.

I'm a little confused because A) I thought we had to submit our security clearance forms before unconditional acceptance and B) when we interviewed they just checked our paper copies to make sure everything lined up. Now I did already submit one set of security forms for Navy HPSP so I don't know if this already counts for me... I did ask that in the email too but as y'all can see no info on that.

There is no online component.

You will turn in the SF86 during orientation at USUHS. The actual security clearance will be done then.

The submission before unconditional acceptance was during your interview. Assuming you did go to the security office and turn in the SF86 and then they gave it back to you.

Security clearance for HPSP and USUHS are on two different systems. So filling out the security paperwork for HPSP does not count for USUHS and vice versa.

Thank you for clarifying! Does everyone receive conditional acceptance prior to unconditional acceptance as a rule, then? I'm asking because I was both medically qualified and turned my SF-86 in at the interview prior to receiving my conditional acceptance -- so if they don't do any additional security clearance prior to orientation, why wouldn't they just send an unconditional acceptance at that point? Forgive my neuroses, I'm finding the process a little complex!

From what I remember from security, they said hold on to this (the Sf86 folder) and use it to fill out the online thing. Background checks take 5ever and are expensive so they only want to do them for people going there. Someone with an acceptance (I'm staring at my phone willing a phone call to come today) could correct and educate me. The only people I would guess that could get unconditional ones are from the academies because they are already officers and don't need to be cleared further.

When did you interview??

Same scenario for me. I bet it's the security clearance still going through.

Thanks! Guess I wrongly assumed I'd be using the same navy system for both checks, good to know.

I'm pretty sure though that the SF86 that you hand in is just checked, but it doesn't make you clear. They told us that after they hand it back to you. They tell you to keep it since you have to use it fill out the bigger and more in depth one that they use to really check you and give you clearance.

Also is the call you get from Maryland? I keep getting a call from Pontiac, Illinois and I'm busy when it happens.

Update: All Clear - It was another solicitation... I will destroy all of them. Don't call pre-meds in interview season.

Just got one from Utah this AM and they hung up. Nearly had a heart attack.

Rejected today, I am not the droid they are looking for.

@Red Lobster Actual , I may be catching up with you for number of USUHS application cycles completed.

With any luck, maybe I'll pick up a promotion before next year...
Was it post or pre interview? Was it by phone or email or snail mail? I'm sorry to hear that though.

@ThirtySixAlpha when were you complete? I know we rode the same hold -> waitlist rollercoaster last cycle. It has been complete silence from USUHS for me this year so I'm assuming I'm going to get that rejected email soon

I sent a sent a thank you email to almost everyone I met that day--including the administrative assistants! Although I didn't get a response back from everyone, there's no harm to being professional and thankful for their work in organizing your interview day.

Nothing at all... why usuhs! Are we going to be waitlisted?

Seems highly likely at this point, but always gotta have some hope. Although, haven't heard Air Force acceptance in a while. Picked that as my 1st choice, not sure if they're just a little behind the other services or if that even plays a factor in the admission decision.
