Just got invited to interview Dec 8th. Any advice from those who have interviewed already?

Also current Marine reservists, planning on wearing uniform to interview any thoughts on dress blues or service alphas? I feel service alphas are more appropriate.

Service A's - trust your instincts. Blues are for weddings, balls and Toys For Tots events.

Hey everyone! Anyone who has interviewed/ been accepted how did you go about choosing which branch of military? I interview next week and am still not sure how I would rank them! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Navy because San Diego and uniforms. 🙂

EDIT: Beaches, oceans, and palm trees. Did I mention location?

I ranked Navy 1 but I didn't turn my form in, until the end of the day. So if you don't know I would just listen to the students and then rank the services at the end of the day

Any chance of still receiving an interview here? Unfortunately, was only actually complete a week ago (but had turned in my app in July) because I had to retake my mcat and they just got my scores back.

Absolutely, I just completed my app here a few weeks ago and received an invite two days ago. Still hope 🙂

I am interviewing this Thursday but I have not heard back regarding if my base access form has been cleared. I turned it in like 2 or so weeks ago?

Hey! I'm in the same situation... I was debating on emailing them today to check if everything was all set...

Update... Just now received emailing confirming my base access was all set.

Thank you! I think I might just turn the form in at the end of the day... did a lot of people end up doing that?

Wore my hair up with a dark pants suit, light colored dress shirt, and no jewelry other than a simple necklace. Wear comfortable dress shoes. Brought a zippered (black) "padfolio" in which I had an envelope with all my forms organized, note paper, a pen, gum, IDs (multiple, including passport), my phone, keys, etc. I am not much of a purse person, but there were females carrying bags/purses. Some interviewees brought back packs, and you can leave bags and other items in the office where you start you day.

I got notice that my SecNav was approved the Tuesday before my Thursday interview. But it can't hurt to call.

I've only just been accepted so I can't speak to whether it was the best choice or not, but I picked Navy partly due to locations, partly because of family history in that service, and partly because, at least of right now, the Navy offers residencies in specialities that interest me. Lots of people on my interview day turned in their preference form at the end of the day.

I brought a purse, mostly so that I had something to carry my second pair of shoes in (I had heels for my interviews and flats for the rest of the day - there is a decent amount of walking). It also had a padfolio in it with my forms. I wore my hair half up, which is what I did for my other interviews. I had a pen and pad of paper in my padfolio, but the only thing I think I wrote down was the name of a book my interviewer recommended to me.

Were you accepted last week or this morning? Further when did you interview? Congratulations on the recent acceptance though!!!

Has anyone received a call this morning?

Yea, you have the rest of the day to turn in that preference sheet.

On a more serious note about prioritizing which branch of service you should take. There is an interviewee dinner the night before the interview day in Bethesda. It is a casual and relaxed environment where you can ask your questions including the differences between branches. My classmates will be there and you can spend the time asking them about what service they chose and why.

I got the call last Monday and interviewed during the first week of interviews. Thank you! I'm sure your call is coming soon!

Air Force, because it's the best overall. I grew up AF, so I'm not biased at all....

I considered the Navy, but the quality of life in the AF was more fitting to what I wanted. Also if I did a GMO tour, I hate ships and love flying, so that played a factor. Both Navy and AF are great, and I know many happy doctors in both branches.

You don't have to turn in the form in the morning. Hold onto it like I did until the end of the day and meet with the representatives of each branch and see which one feels like how you want your career to be. They're very accessible between your interviews..

Thanks for all the good information! The two sets of shoes was smart I might have to copy you on that!

Perhaps tomorrow? Usually for the next hour some calls show up sporadically. I really can't wait for the call! Hopefully they finish all the Sept. Interviews this week.

I brought an Anne Klein tote to hold my padfolio, the folder they give us, a bottle of water, all the papers, etc. My hair just brushes the top of my shoulders, and I wore it down, or with sides clipped back. I can't remember.

If you don't want to bring a tote, I recommend a padfolio (~$15 at staples for mine). It has a built in slot for your ID, pen, a paper pad, and an area where I could put my papers. I preferred to have my tote, just because I liked having all my things with me.

It's a very straightforward interview, low-stress. At check in they had muffins and donuts, and everyone sits in a conference room in the admissions office. Eventually, they gather everyone to go to a nearby room. You get a presentation about the school and meet various Deans. Then you leave on a bus to tour the Simulation Center in groups before coming back to the school for getting your interview schedule, touring the med school, lunch, Q&A with current students, etc. Interviews occur from 1-4. You have two time slots, and the rest is free to go by security, talk to company commanders, student affairs, commandant, etc. I highly recommend going to talk to as many people as you can to get a feel if the school is right for you!

I also recommend going to the student dinner the night before, it's a great opportunity to ask questions and get to know current students! That is what helped me make my branch decision. Coming into interview week, I was between Army and Navy, but leaning Army. I ended up with Navy 1 and Army a close 2nd, just because of talking to the students there...and slightly influenced by my dad and grandpa both being Navy vets!

The wait is killing me... Every night after work I keep pushing off laundry and cleaning, saying I'll wait till after the call. If its a good call I'll be happy doing the stuff, if its a bad call I'll burn off the energy in it....

But if theres no call I just slowly see my place decay... along with my sanity....

Has any other Sept. 29th interviewees gotten a call other than the two air force guys?
Any hopes for today or the rest of the week?

No call yet 🤔 and I'm gonna say we've no hope for calls until next week.

Has anyone heard if USUHS has a second look in the Spring?

Does our physical and SECNAV form have to be complete to receive a decision?

To receive an unconditional acceptance yes. You can receive a conditional which just means you need to be found physically qualified by may I think.
I'm not sure if you can get an unconditional without the SECNAV completed. Thats why they push that at the interview. I'm unsure though. The SECNAV is almost an informal check - it doesn't grant clearance - they will check later - its almost preliminary weeding of sorts. So I'm unsure. There haven't been calls though since Monday. At least not a batch of calls. Two showed up since but they were only air force and last week. Perhaps those that are getting calls aren't on SDN... who knows.

I was an early interviewee who was accepted late. I can imagine how you feel. For sanity sake, i tried to focus my energy on my job and contingencies. There's still so much time left in the season; is way too early to be stressing out this way 🙂. go play with puppies. You have time.

Fuuuu... just gimme the decision USUHS!!! Congrats to the accepted :]

So I was wait-listed with USU.

Good luck to everyone else on the wait list with me.

Applied: 8/8 interviewed 9/15, Received a call and letter notification 17 OCT

For OOSers, did everyone fly into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport? And can rental bars be driven onto base?

edit: rental cars!

Would highly recommend flying into Reagan (DCA). Direct metro link to Bethesda and USUHS.

For rental cars, so long as you have the paperwork to get on base you should be fine. Just be warned that parking is difficult around USUHS.
