2016-2017 Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I did! It was good to have the opportunity to talk and ask questions other than the dinner. They might try to pair you with someone in the same branch of service you are interested if they are available.

I highly recommend it.

I did, highly recommend it. I lucked out and stayed in a house with 3 USUHS students (Navy and 2 AF). Great guys and they gave me a ton of good insight/info, plus it was nice to see the kind of personalities that attend the school. Also helped with getting on and off the base as I thought the whole shuttle/metro/flying carpet shindig I'd have to do otherwise seemed.

Awesome, I am going to try to stay with a student as well then. One more question-- when did you guys hear if there was availability for a student to host you? When I emailed the contact person, she said it might not be until the week before, was it that late for you?
Thanks!!

One of the students emailed me 8/19 for the 9/8 interview. Although I think one of the admin people told me at some point that the students volunteer to be put on the list and then accept/decline as they come (or something along those lines, so don't quote me on that). So I suppose it might be a little later now as they're in the middle of the semester as opposed to the beginning.

My student host emailed me on 8/18 for my 9/8 interview.

+1 that staying with a student host was a positive experience. They matched me with someone in my preferred branch who also attended my undergrad.
I actually didn't hear until a couple days before my interview -- I think they forgot to assign me someone but I emailed the contact in admissions and she was able to arrange it very quickly.

I have a good feeling about this week!

FWIW I stayed in a hotel, and really regretted not staying with a sponsor, I still have a lot of questions that I coulda have had answered by a host.

Ok, sounds like staying with a student is definitely the best option. I will definitely try to do that! I was just worried since they said I might not hear back about availability until the week before but it sounds like that hasn't been an issue. Thanks!

You could always book a refundable hotel room, just in case. A lot of places have a refundable rate.

Mine emailed me the Monday before my interview on Thursday... so I booked a refundable hotel room and then just cancelled once I heard from my host!

I have an interview for USUHS in two days but will be cancelling today. Hope this goes to someone. Good luck

Has anyone that interviewed on Oct 6 heard anything yet?

I interviewed on the 6th, silence thus far. I'm hoping for good news this week!

I was accepted yesterday as well! I'll be seeing you all in August!

Do any of the med students that check this thread know when the orders drop? I've already been to bolc. And I'd like to give my current command an ETA of when I will be leaving.

Whenever I scroll past the Google home ad, it always automatically opens, does it do that on any of your phones? It's annoying to me.

I heard they give out orders in mid winter (Feb-March) but if you are worried I would just email the Army company commander. I'm pretty sure they organize officer's training.

yesterday was the last day of the 6-week time frame that USUHS admission said would deliver its decision ( I interviewed on 10/6.) I guess I'm out of this game, good luck to the rest of you all who are still waiting for the call.

Maybe not, I think they said it could be longer than 6 weeks

Has anyone gotten post interview rejections? If so, how and when? 10/13 interview, getting anxious.

Long time lurker of this thread, finally made an account. I also interviewed 10/13 and am getting nervous

I don't think USUHS gives out post-interview rejections this early. It only places ppl on the alternate list, which is incredibly hard to get out of.

I emailed admissions this week and was told that my file was now being reviewed. Interviewed 10/6.

I was just informed via snail mail that I am currently waitlisted. Interviewed 10/13 and chose Air Force.

The Army company commander is not the one who does the orders, it is a lady by the name of Ms. Taylor who is all the way over in FT knox in HR Command, and who works closely with the admissions office. Your best bet would be to give Dr. Saguil a quick email or even your admissions counselor as to when you'll get them

Waitlisted today (not alternate list).... sigh
Anyone know if it's likely to get off the waitlist?

Congratulations!

Orders were cut for me and most people I know around early Spring all the way up to July depending on individual circumstances. I have no idea how the details all work out for prior officers -- sorry. Typically, the report date is late July. This year it was the 29th. You can get a better idea of your timeline by contacting either your counselor or Ms. Auslander-- I'd start with counselor.

Quick question. I interviewed several weeks ago, and put Airforce as my number one, and Army as my number two. I would honestly be fine with either, and I am seeing that Airforce and Navy are already full. Does that mean I can only be offered a waitlist spot for Airforce at this point, or could I be offered a spot in Army if I would rather have that than be on the Airforce waitlist? Do i get a choice in that or is it whatever they offer me?

Interviewed 10/27. I hope they send something out before I pay for this ticket to missouri for another interview lol

Yea, seems like you would be waitlisted for AF. If that's the case, I believe Dr. Saguil will give you a call in Feb regarding branch preference, tell him that you are also interested in the army, that should maximize your chance of getting off the waitlist. But from what I've read on previous threads, the AF waitlist moves pretty quick.
