2016-2017 University of Arizona - Tucson Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hopefully sometime this week the admissions committee sends out another round of acceptances. I'm also curious if we will see more small batches of people getting in or if there will be a larger batch of acceptances this round.

I'm thinking Friday we'll hear something. Hopefully the batch size is whatever includes me! Considering its getting close to 3/15, they'll probably be >20 people in eaach.

"Good news is coming your way and it will be a surprise." Fortune cookies never lie! lol

We have not utilized our wait-list for the past few years.

Do you know how many more rounds of acceptances the admissions committee will have this cycle? Also, is there a certain date that is set in March/April for when the last round of acceptances will be given out?

We don't post when or how many committee meetings we have remaining or when we will accept. Final statuses will be posted by the end of March

Woo! Another continuing to evaluate email!

Exactly what I'm about to do right now after opening that email....

But in all seriousness, I appreciate these updates but at this point just cut the cord and tell us if we are not a good fit. For some of us it's been a long 5 months waiting...

Has anyoneactually been taken off the under consideration yet? It seems like these rounds of acceptances are for people who have recently interviewed?

I agree, it does seem that people that have been accepted recently have had later interview dates towards the end of the cycle. So I'm hoping that this particular round of acceptances was more catered to the people that interviewed the last interview date in February. I'm really hoping the next round will be filled with more people from previous interview dates.

Oh yay! Another Not selected, not rejected, still in the pool email!!!! In other words: Thank you for holding on ICEDmocha15 while we figure out if you're fit enough for us to take a chance on, maybe, maybe not, but we'll keep you posted 🙂

Something that helps me to hold onto hope, (and my sanity), is looking back at last year's UA thread and seeing one person post that they got accepted on March 25th after interviewing on October 9th. That's a long 6 months!... Keep pressing forward!

They say 10 on the twitter. I interviewed late Jan, my file was "under review" last week and I heard good news this morning. Hopefully, there will be some good news for you all too. I know this whole waiting game is tiring but just hang in there.

On a side note, does anyone know if there is a facebook page or group for those who plan to attend? Thanks

Congratulations! Out of curiosity, around what time did your acceptance come?

Here you go! I think it's private so you might need to request access and wait for an admin to accept the request.

6 months for me... Jesus Christ

Eureka!!!!! READ THIS!!!!!

Located on the Internet was this interesting webpage detailing UACOM Tucson admissions decisions, timeline and applicant re-review protocols or lack thereof "Admissions Committee Manual v2" published 8-3-2016. http://any flip.com/azlv/nuwr/basic/51–53

Pg 52 listed: The actual committee meeting schedule/dates, target except #s, meeting acceptance rounds, # of apps, rankings, applicant re-review DATES(not every committee meeting btw!)

This line was most intriguing/damning? "Note: The NOV 22 and March 23 committee meeting will be a re-review. A total of four applicants per subcommittee will be put forward for the meeting."

So does this mean that applicants are NOT re-reviewed every committee meeting like admissions reps say they are; instead only re reviews them on 2 days (11/22 & 3/23) within the entire application season?

This is probably how that green avatar from last year's thread was waiting all the way from October to March 25 for their acceptance because they were NEVER ACTUALLY re-reviewed until end of March. SMDH SMDH

Please UACOM Tucson admissions address these findings. Am I confused?have I read or misinterpreted this freely available information I found on the Internet? I don't know.

DELETE THIS NEPHEW

Why should they delete it?
Beyond the fact that it was incredibly immature and disrespectful in the way it was written, why would you call out an entire admissions staff on an anonymous public forum? If he/she had done it respectfully, it would have been a little different i.e. "Hey UACOM-T Admissions, I found this page that apparently outlines your admissions process, would you be able to clarify some questions I had?" But even then, something like this, if at all, should have been done over private email. Calling them out like that is immature and disrespectful, especially considering he/she apparently wants to attend this school.

They've been very open about their admissions process, truly, when compared to other schools. Not only do they have a Twitter page that releases how many they've selected to interview, how many HAVE interviewed, how many total apps they've received and how many people they've accepted, but they have had someone from admissions frequent this forum to clarify misconceptions and answer questions about the process. I only applied to 15 schools, but I did not see this level of openness anywhere else, other than at UA Phx. They don't have to do any of this, it is all optional and there is no other reason to do it other than they care about the students who are applying, and understand we are neurotic AF.

I could be completely off base here, but that is my view of this situation. Just trying to provide some perspective here.

Hahahahahahaha...... Juicy! I have missed a lot apparently...

This coming from a man who has already been accepted to the school. Of course you'd say their methods are justified

What about the rest of us with our thumbs up our noses thinking we are actually being looked at during all meetings because that is what admissions claims? The claims made by @Ahaaa may have been understood incorrectly, by the sounds of it they weren't. In my opinion, the school can use whatever methods they want, but outwardly lying is disingenuous and unethical. Especially for a medical school who expects and tests applicants on ethics.

This makes me sad and disappointed. I didn't expect this from UA. Its all a game. UACOM already knows who they want, who they don't want, and instead of just telling us that they drag it out and feed us untruths.

I think this idea that someone who is accepted no longer has a valid viewpoint of the process is misguided, honestly. I could just as easily say that of course anyone who hasn't been accepted would say that their methods are not justified. You're missing my point here.

The UofA has been very open this entire season about their process, and I have felt that way from the beginning far before I was accepted. I understand that it is frustrating, and I know that there are aspects of this Med School application system that are flawed. But that is not an excuse to be disrespectful to an admissions committee who has shown a willingness to be open about their process. You can take it or leave it, but that is my view, and I feel the same for other schools whether I was accepted or not. There's a difference between criticism and disrespect.

Intentionally lying and giving applicants misinformation is not being open, it's not being forthcoming, is disrespectful, and is unethical. This is an established medical school. They are held to higher standards. I expected more. Too many people sit by idly when injustice presents or defend those that seek to deceive. @AHAA did the opposite and gave us the receipts to prove it!

Can you show me where they explicitly state they look at every application at every selections meeting? My understanding was and has always been that they re-review people throughout the application process, which they clearly do based upon this information that was given, should it be accurate. That statement may be vague, but it is far from "intentionally lying."

I agree with this. They told me on the phone and via email that we would be re-reviewed by the end of the cycle. This could mean one time or many. Not necessarily each time that "hold" email comes out.

You are very busy with the conspiracy theories. Please remember that many who post the negative articles here have not been invited to interview or may have been preliminarily rejected and may have also withdrawn their application. That said, we have been more than transparent during this cycle. This is the first time we've actively engaged in SDN as well as social medias as the cycle progresses.

If we were not re-reviewing you at every step, then we would have rejected you after your initial review. Also, holding multiple re-review sessions means that there are not new files introduced that particular meeting so we may specifically re-review each and every scored applicant who has been to either sub or full committee at that point.

We wish you the best as the cycle nears the close.

Where did they lie?

I went through all of their previous posts and looked through what others have posted regarding the hold e-mails. No where did they say applications would be re-reviewed during every meeting or that your application had been reviewed every time you get an e-mail. They said applications would be continued to be reviewed until the end of the cycle. As @teenagemutant said, that could mean one meeting where they re-review applications or multiple.

I genuinely hope that UACOM-T does not change their communication policy with applicants because of incidents like this. There were plenty of schools that were completely silent and opaque with their applications process and made no effort to engage with or reduce frustrations of applicants. However, based on this thread, I can see a clear benefit of that is that your policies can't be nitpicked, obsessed over, or maligned.

I did the same before asking that poster to show me the evidence, the adcom has been nothing but open and honest with us during this process, and I also hope that applicants like this do not cause UA to operate differently in the future, because it is one of the reasons I am drawn to the school. It's very much in line with their culture as a school as well.
