2016-2017 University of California - Davis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Still no II or "on hold" email...been complete since early july. I've literally lived in this area my entire life and have worked at this hospital for a long time and have not heard anything since submitting my secondary. What do people think about sending interest letters?
They specifically say no updates until AFTER you have an II. I would advise against sending updates as it might hurt your application if they deem you can't follow instructions. Unfortunately all you can do is wait. It is imperative to ALWAYS follow the SCHOOL's instructions. Good luck!

Not sure if it's the same with Davis but apparently for SD, with people that didn't get a hold e-mail and are not rejected, there's a chance of II.

I hope it's that way but it seems UCSD put way more people on hold than UC Davis. I've also haven't heard anything since submitting in July.

Oh my, thank you so much! I must have glossed over that sentence when reading the page. Appreciate your help!

Now that fall semester is coming to a close, do we need to send in updated transcripts/grades to include our newest grades this semester?

Note: I have not interviewed yet, but I have one scheduled in January.

Silent reader just now posting!

Man, just got waitlisted. 10/21 interview. I thought the interview went well too so I don't really have a huge idea how to improve 🙁. Do y'all know what the waitlist movement for Davis is like? When should I send updates/LOI?

Well I am an MS1 at UCD taking a study break from Block 1 finals studying. I thought I would entertain myself by being a D-bag and trolling this board but decided I needed some Karma and am opting to be positive instead.
I got in off the waitlist. Actually I would say about 30% of our class came off the waitlist(if not more). The waitlist is by no means a death blow at UCD a lot of people get off it.
Now still go to other interviews and if you have other acceptances I would start mentally preparing to go to one of those schools. Of course a waitlist is not as good as an outright acceptance but you are by no means done yet. Btw I did not send any updates. Good luck!!

Being a D bag and trolling is so sick bro

This is what I've always feared, people here spreading rumors haha.

Anyone know what a hold status here implies? Is there still hope? Wondering how many they issue compared to UCSD.

What are some of the coolest opportunities/facilities/classes that are unique to Davis?

In first block we are mainly working on academic survival, so now may not be the best time to ask me about this. In block II I will probably have a better answer for you.
Right now the best professional opportunity has been the student run clinics. I volunteered at one and got to see patients after my first week here. The second years were great teachers and taught me how to do a basic history and physical exam. This gave me a nice jump into our first block doctoring courses. There are several clinics that treat different patient populations, so if you volunteer at more than one you will get to see a very diverse pool of patients. Also the attendings at these clinics know you have only been doing this for a couple of weeks or months so they are very patient (most of the time). These two factors make the clinics a great opportunity to learn. I have heard 3rd and 4th years tell me the attendings can usually tell which students spent considerable time in the clinics because our clinical skills are much more refined.

Also being located in the capital gives students a lot of opportunities to get politically involved if they so choose.

As for the culture of the school one thing that has been great is how the second years take us user their wing so to speak.. The second years understand how stressful first block can be and are really supportive, The tutoring programs they runs are amazing and saved me on more than one occasion.
Hope this helps.
Apologize for my grammar I cant think right now

Ooo thank you so much for the info. Do you know how the application process for the TRACKS occur after you've been accepted to UCD? I read that it's like another interview.

I'm so nervous/excited for Dec 23rd. It will be 2 weeks after my interview at UCD SOM and they told us that those accepted would get a phone call, those waitlisted/rejected would get an email. So sad that it's b4 Christmas 🙁

I believe there is a second interview process for at least some of the tracks. I don't know because I was never really interested in the tracks.

As for the nerves. Try not to obsess to much. Of course this makes me a hypocrite I obsessed a lot, However, there is nothing you can do about it now. Just file it a away as another experience and maybe think about ways you can be better for the next interview. Good luck

So people from 12/9 should be hearing back this week? Ugh, I can't handle the stress right before Christmas. Do calls usually happen on thurs?

Yes, Thursday morning through afternoon. Good luck and don't stress, it's out of your hands at this point. Positive vibes coming your way. Happy Holidays!!

Anyone getting rejections? I've got a plate of silence and I'm really hungry.

Oh no, this is disheartening. They told us during our interview that they were quick about letting people know of their rejections since they don't like to keep people "dangling", maybe its a good sign that you haven't heard anything. 🙂 I would either call or email them for an update but don't be pesky.

I've had silence since early July, when I completed the secondary....

Oo, they were specifically talking about the interviewees. Maybe charliebillings is probably in the same boat as you or he did get an interview and hasn't heard back.

Hey guys I'm sure this was mentioned in previous posts but how receptive is Davis to pre-II updates?

Has anyone had any phone calls yet? From previous posts they are done early morning around 7-8am. :[

Nope, have had my phone close by all morning, and not a peep :[
Now I'm scared to get an email, what if it's a WL or rejection..

I am already crying in a silent corner at work... Even if I do by chance get on a waitlist, I feel like I would be very low on that list.

I don't think they're calling today, I feel like at least one person would report here. When did you interview?

I interviewed Dec 9th. During our intro, the admissions guy did the math in his head and he assured us it would be today. I hope he was wrong and they wait until after Christmas.

Same. The admissions person at the end said that we may not hear back until after Christmas, so to not freak out if we get nothing today. I'm really hoping for news this afternoon though

Ahh, thank you. I feel better now that there is a possibility for them to wait.

Can someone check to see how many open dates are still left to be scheduled? From past threads, it seems like the first week of January is when some IIs trickle out....

Dates available through March from what I've read.

Any hotel recommendations on where to stay near the school? I'all be coming in for the interview
Thank you

Will you have a car? What price range you looking for? The Courtyard Marriott is right next to the school, but isn't super cheap

Thanks!
Ended up finding one for a good price, $100 range
La Quinta Inn in Sac

Anyone know when Davis will review their waitlisted people? I'm thinking of sending in an update letter soon

Just got WL email this morning 🙁 So lame, now I feel like I may have screwed up the MMI I had after this one as well.

@Until2021 they said in the email I just got that they accept WL people after April 30th.

Does that mean I can send in updates before April 30th?

Edit: they accept updates through their Messaging Center and the update has to be 4000 characters or less.

How long ago did you get waitlisted?

I don't mean to come across as neurotic, but I've been complete since summer time and no II or rejection yet. I called the admissions office a while back and they said that they extend offers till the end of December. Since it's January at this point and I still haven't heard anything, should I anticipate a rejection at this point? I'm asking honestly.

Hard to say definitively, but very likely. I got an II way back in October for a February date. They only interview thru March. If they said offers end in December, then it's likely that filled the rest of feb and march during November and December. Just my two cents. But until you get an actual rejection, you can't count yourself out...

That's interesting given that those of us who were put on the interview waitlist were told that our apps would be reviewed again for an interview in January...
