2016-2017 University of California - Irvine Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Interview format is readily available on the msar and school website. It's not a big secret

Getting nervous. Submitted in July and this is by far my top choice but haven't heard anything. I got the secondary fairly early but then silence since then so I don't know.
+1

let's just say that the information on those sites is not quite accurate

Is the status on the portal ever supposed to change to under review? Mine's been at complete for like 2 and a half months

Mine hasn't changed, I have the ID number thing on top that a couple other people seem to have though

Rejected by Irvine post-secondary 10/8, submitted secondary 8/12, 77 LizzyM. Best of luck to the rest of yall haha.

:O how even? did you have any glaring holes in your app?

Haha, I don't know about any holes, but if I had to guess it might have been my secondaries? Forgot to mention that I'm also a CA resident. At least I got some interview love from UCLA (didn't even get a secondary from Davis, put on hold by UCSD) so now I'm just waiting on UCSF, USC, and Stanford in terms of Cali schools. Being a Cali premed's hard yo =(

Just rejected :/ Submitted late July, LizzyM ~73. This was definitely my dream school, lived a mile from the campus my whole life. Good luck to everyone else

🤔 wow, multiple rejections on a Saturday.. Are they doing evaluations today or is this an automated thing?

@yungspleen best of luck, at least you're having a pretty successful time elsewhere! 🙂

honestly the CA resident thing probably hurt you the most. uci is very particular about accepting california residents. i feel you man, i haven't heard from davis yet, only got interviews from usc, uci, and ucsd so far
Why would CA residency hurt him? UCI interviews in state applicants at a much higher rate than out of state..

Agreed but someone also has to call out, king of the humble brag.

Relax, we get it, you"only have interviews from half the CA schools"🙄🙄

II for PRIME-LC today at 2:24 CST!!

Complete 8/16; LizzyM 72-73

Only interview date open on the calendar was all the way in January. 😵 But I am hoping that this may be because they only have select dates available for PRIME interviews, and not because they are running out of spots this early in the cycle!

Congrats! With that username, I'm sure you'll fit in and do fine 🙂

To anyone who has already interviewed: Is the student dinner the night before the interview mandatory? Is that the student interview portion of the interview or is that merely just a chance to ask questions and chit chat about the school?

not mandatory, but super helpful to learn about how the school may be a good fit for you and what types of opportunities are available. The student interview portion is a formal portion that occurs on the actual interview day, though it is also super laid back as well.

Thank you for the info Dr. Steph Curry!

II invite today!!!!Complete 3 weeks ago. OOS so hopefully they can accommodate my in the area request to interview on a particular day.

i think the school started reviewing apps pretty late so I guess wait a few more weeks before freaking out. but yeah im in the same situation as you for a lot of UCs

Still no news. The UCs look like this for me right now

Rejected: UCSF
Oh Hold: UCSD
No news: UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UCLA
Interviewed: UC Davis

Can anyone who already interviewed here share some light on what type of interview format they use?

Hey guys. I have an interview scheduled for 11/7/16. Im OOS with a LizzyM of 76. I just got an acceptance at my state school and I would choose that school over UCI. However if UCI gave me a scholarship, I would choose UCI. I'm just curious as to the chances of getting a scholarship from UCI and if I should deny the interview invite and give it to someone else?

Hello all! Best of luck to you this cycle.

Has anyone noticed a trend with the whole "student ID" number appearing in the portal? Or is this just a fluke? Thanks! 🙂

Welcome! Someone noticed it a while back. Though it doesn't seem to mean anything.

Anyone else experience a random portal status change today (other than an II)? Happened to a friend of mine who is assuming that it's a rejection.

Rejected this evening. Complete early August. Lizzy ~ 70. I was thrilled to have made it past their secondary screen as an OOS applicant.

Got the wait list notice this morning. Interviewed 9/23, oos, 3.73, 511 for those who are keeping score. Adios.
