beat me to it!

I'm trying to figure out where to include information on what I have been doing during my gap year. They ask (1) if there have been any gaps in your education during/after college and (2) if you graduated from college or completed a postbac/graduate program in 2016. I graduated from college in 2015 and have been working in a lab since then... Does that mean I only have to answer question 1?

Yeah... I am also stuck. I am thinking about stating in the first question that I simply took a gap year, and then in the second question stating what I did...

I am currently a Florida resident but I applied to this school because I spent over half of my life in MD and have deep ties to the state. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on if I could make the committee aware of this or if I even should? I wanted to put it in the usual "is there anything else you would like the admissions committee to know" question but UMD doesn't have that option 🙁 Any advice?

I emailed Dr. Foxwell about my ties to MD and how I was concerned that the school wouldn't know about how much UMD and its community meant to me. Granted I now live in a neighboring state without a medical school so living in Florida might be a draw back, but still, I'd email him. He was super approachable.

"What does it mean to you to enter into a profession?"

How did people approach this question. I don't know if its the way it is written but it has me scratching my head.
Maybe I am being a typical premed and OVERTHINKING EVERYTHING.

I approached it by replacing the "a" with "this" so it was similar to "why the medical profession?" aka another version of "why medicine?"

I went with what I want to get out of a career...how medicine gives that to me...show it's a mature and thoughtful choice

anyone know if it's okay to not use the full character limit? Like for the talk about your most memorable clinical experience...i listed it already in my work activities and it pretty much took a huge portion of my personal statement, so would I look lazy if I just had a short 1000 character essay? I feel like I'm just reiterating what I've said over and over again (it's already in my AMCAS)

Mine was like 400 characters for the same reason. I just tried to highlight specifically why it was so important and left it at that, no reason in filling it with fluff or reiterating what is already in your primary app

awesome thank you!

can i use shadowing as my most important exposure to clinical medicine. I have clinical experience, but i probably learned the most about clinical medicine from shadowing.

What do they mean by independent study? Like something I've led completely on my own, or just being a part of research that's outside of school?

From what I understood, the question is asking if you have done independent research in a lab that wasn't part of a course (e.g. a chem lab project) or work outside of a typical class with a professor or mentor.

Based on last years thread, they didn't send out II's until late august and most people received complete emails from them before getting II's. It's interesting that you guys have received II's already. Are you EDP by any chance? or did any of you guys get a complete email?

Not EDP. Scheduled October interview date.

No complete email, and I'm not EDP. Complete late July and just signed up for a late September interview!

No complete email. No EDP. Also OOS.

Do we need to complete and submit the in-state residency form to have our application received in-state consideration?

I temporarily lived in DC and have a DC license at the moment and don't want that to screw me up...

For the prompt: Please describe and explain below any academic problems which you might have had while in college and/or graduate or professional school. Please include withdrawals, incompletes, poor grades, etc. (If you feel that you have not had any academic problems please state that)

Should I explain bad grades in my freshman/sophomore years? My grades have been consistently going up, and I think the explanation is pretty self-evident. Not sure what to say other than "I was adjusting to college education..."

II!!! I'm so excited I totally did not expect this! I am technically an out of state applicant, but I currently live in Maryland and attended college here! I am so grateful for this opportunity and so surprised!

Completed 7/28, II 8/9. (IS, non-trad, LizzyM~74). Definitely my first choice so I'm super psyched!

(In hindsight, I probably should've picked a later interview date so I could get some more practice interviewing... Oops)

Interview invite yesterday for the MD/Masters program! Completed July 25th, In-state.
