Waitlisted today. Makes my school decision easier at least!

I know more goes into the process than just stats, but do I have a chance here with a 3.85+ sGPA and cGPA and 506 MCAT, NY resident???

Your MCAT (506=71st percentile) is just under their 10th percentile of accepted students: 10th is a 29/73rd percentile, median is a 34/514/91st percentile. Idk if the MSAR has updated with the new MCAT scores, these are off my spreadsheet from last summer.

Applying is always worth a shot. You never know if they'll love something in the rest of your profile.

My mcat score sheet thing says 506 (73rd percentile). And no the msar still has the old mcat scores which is annoying because who knows what the exact conversions are

anyone else still waiting who interviewed in early february?

I interviewed on the first, and got a waitlist a couple weeks back. Above avg stats, so I think they thought I would go elsewhere, but I missed a call from the admissions dean today after sending in an LOI a few days ago... So crossing my fingers, until I can call tomorrow during office hours.

I interviewed on the 2nd and no news
Does your waitlist email appear in the communication status page on the portal? Mine has no messages since the post-interview survey

Yes, I believe so. They also emailed me the decision.

Sounds like good news on the horizon!

Would you mind sharing what your passion for Rochester is? I was accepted and love the school, but it's tied for first with another school that I was also accepted to. I'm having a hard time making up my mind so would love to hear your thoughts!

Accepted off waitlist today! Interviewed 2/6
Congrats! How did you find out? Rochester is my top choice, sitting on three waitlists with no acceptances right now so I'm really hoping I get pulled off at some point too.

I missed two calls from Rochester yesterday, and they emailed me this morning with the news. I'll be withdrawing my acceptance, so I hope you get yours soon!

It was an acceptance! Got the news this morning via email! My first one, so I'm thrilled!

To be honest, I don't know that I'd say I have a passion for the school per se - they're my first acceptance, but they weren't the first school on my list. However, I like the city (that it's less hectic and has better COL than most places, not small factors), that it's a good research school, that it's not in the middle of the sweltering South, P/F of course, and that the classes seem a bit on the older (and more mature) side than many other schools (though that can change from class to class, of course). It's not my first choice, but I applied because I thought I would be happy there and build a good foundation for my future career - I'd make sure you can say the same about both of the schools you're considering.

That's where I was yesterday, too - remember that three waitlists isn't such a bad place to be at this point in the cycle; your chances are still good. Good luck on getting your top choice!

Congratulations!!

Would you care to elaborate on your LOI if you don't mind?

Was it a letter of interest where you talked about what you liked/ how you're a good match etc.. at Rochester, or was it a letter of intent saying you would drop everywhere else and 100% go there if accepted?

I've been wait listed since December, and I liked Rochester a lot so I'm wondering how I should go about something like this.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know if it matters if it's intent or interest, as long as the letter is sincere, gives good, real, and mature reasons for loving the program, and implies that it's your absolute first choice. I talked about the unique aspects of the curriculum and their focus (e.g., the biopsychosocial model) and how great of a fit the school and city would be for me.

Got a High Priority WL email today anyone else hear something similar? Also any idea how good WL movement typically is here?

I'd imagine it's pretty decent. Anecdotally, I also just got in off it, though.

For those who were accepted off the waitlist, when did you interview? Also I didn't think the waitlist movement would be starting until later in the spring...

Feb 1st. And my guess is that I was waitlisted because they figured I would go elsewhere by my stats, and had a few spots left to assign before true WL movement. Just a guess, though.

Those of you who are part of the accepted students Facebook group, who did you get the invite email from? I've been accepted for almost a month now with no word, and at this point I really need to join to talk about housing and stuff.

Wait an accepted students group has already been made/they sent out an email about it? I was accepted in January and have received very, very little communication with them since, other than the second look RSVP email and that having to pass Step 2 or something email.

I also never got a phone call with my acceptance (just an email) and I'm actually kind of bummed about that? Do they only call certain people or something?

Maybe I didn't really get in... they cashed my deposit check though 🙄

There is a group but I don't believe an email was sent out about it ... try searching for it on Facebook "University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Class of 2021"

I don't know about the phone call... I did get one but it might also depend on their availability? Maybe they just wanted to get you your decision as soon as possible...

How was this high priority email worded?

From the email:

Currently, our list of accepted applicants is over-subscribed. However, I am sending this email to inform you that you currently are in the top tier of Rochester's Wait List. If our admissions process unfolds as in past years, I fully expect that you will be offered an acceptance into the Class of 2021, and should hear from us by the end of May or in early June. While I cannot guarantee that you will receive an acceptance from Rochester, please know that I would not be sending you this email unless I thought you had a good chance.

I thought there was one because upthread someone said that invites go by email.

Edit: Though I interpreted it as it was already existing, and people just had to be added. Maybe it hasn't been created yet! Kinda late, if that is the case.

Yes I believe that people do need to be added...are you able to request to join the group?

Did you send a letter of intent or anything?

Wow, that does sound like a good sign.

I did not! But I had a really good feeling post-interview. I was actually quite disappointed to find out I got WLed after my interviewer basically told me I'd be a great addition to the school.

So this might be a stupid question, but if their "list of accepted students is oversubscribed," how come they are accepting people off of the waitlist so early?

For any accepted folks: If you are interested, you can search for the Facebook group "University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Class of 2021" and request to join ... it's a closed group but it should come up in searches

Because accepted applicants are withdrawing. If somebody withdraws their acceptance, that spot goes to a waitlisted applicant.

I guess that makes sense, but they're still interviewing right? Oh well, I'll chalk it up to the mysteries of the admissions process 🙂

I sincerely doubt they're still interviewing - it's super late - but I could be wrong. And schools basically always overfill their class with initial acceptances because they know a lot of people will go elsewhere, and this way, more people get the chance to know in advance.

Did anyone that was waitlisted early in the interview season receive a High Priority WL email? I was put on the WL back in October and I'm curious if anyone that interviewed back then received a High Priority email in last few days.
