2016-2017 University of Texas - Southwestern Application Thread

So OOS people would maybe, possibly hear about getting in on the 15th, but no one gets rejected or put on a waitlist? If you don't get in on that day it's just radio silence?

Pretty much yeah. Waitlist emails aren't sent out until February, and last year nobody reported a rejection at all, just acceptances and waitlists.

Congrats guys. Does anyone know what the normal turnaround time is for pre-match offers? Should I be expecting one if I interviewed 2 weeks ago?

Someone from last year interviewed on 11/14 and received their pre-match offer on 12/11, so maybe that's some indication as to how long it might take.

Is there anything we need to do on our part? Like via TMDSAS or do we just sit back until school starts or something?

We'll work on the facebook group as soon as we can get the list of names 🙂 🙂
CONGRATS Y'ALL
I'm so excited for you. To those who did not pre-match, hang in there!

Is there a chance at pre-matching if I'm interviewing this week??

If I interview after this day, in January, are my chances pretty low? Am I interviewing for the wait list?

I've heard that more pre-match offers will roll out in December, but is that only for people who interview after Nov 15? Or will those of us who already interviewed still be considered?

I am curious about this too. On previous year's thread there were mixed responses. I heard that those who interviewed this last weekend (11/12) were not considered for pre-match on 11/15. So, I think they will be the part of the next group for sure. But, what about people from Aug thru early Nov? Will they be reconsidered?

For those who pre-matched, is there anything that needs to be done in the portal for accepting the offer? I haven't received any information yet on how to accept the offer.

"Okay, I just spoke with Ms. McLane. I asked her specific questions about the prematch process and their typical acceptance patterns throughout the cycle. While this information is, due to the nature of the process, not extremely illuminating, it is more authoritative than our speculation. And there are a few pearls of wisdom here that might prove interesting to those of us still waiting for a decision.

She confirmed that the bulk of their prematch offers went out on the 15th. However, she said the Committee is planning to have several additional, smaller waves between now and mid December. Crucially, and I made sure to clarify this point, each time offers go out, the entire pool of applicants will be reviewed. This means that the later prematches are by no means reserved for candidates who recently interviewed; all interviewed applicants regardless of interview date are thus still very much in the running to prematch between now and around mid December when she confirmed that they will most likely cease extending prematch offers.

Ms. McLane also verified that very few people will receive new offers via the match. When I asked her if she could speculate as to what proportion of the class would be accepted off of the waitlist, she compared it to Vegas (and told me if she would make a lot of money there if she could answer that question). Finally, she stated that Southwestern typically makes somewhere between 350-380 offers in sum to fill their class of 230 students.

That's all I got. I honestly did not expect the office to be so tremendously helpful and receptive to questions; I've done my best to share what I learned with everyone else who is still waiting. I hope this helps. Best of luck to everyone and again congrats to those who've already gotten offers." "

You'll get a letter in the mail in the next few weeks, and there will be a deadline by which you have to mail it back.

Quick question for students/accepted students: will we hear anything about merit scholarships before the match?

Yes scholarships come with your initial letter which will come in the next few weeks!
Also, the facebook page is ready and will be shared with accepted students soon. 🙂

Should I wait to go apartment hunting until ms0 day? Also, hopefully I won't be too annoying with questions.

If you are interested in living at MedPark, apply for that ASAP. People seem to say getting singles there isn't too hard if you apply early, but if you want to have a roommate that's apparently harder because that price is unbeatable in the area. Normally I think people just wait until MS0 weekend to meet others, decide if they want roommates, etc.
I don't live in an apartment so I'm not the best person to ask, but once you get on the facebook group there will be plenty of people you can ask on there.

Does anyone have advice for the interview here? This is one of my top choices, and I got a late interview date.

My interview experience was quite laid back but some people have been saying it's not always. Read through this thread and you should find a good amount of advice.
Thank you for being so helpful throughout the whole thread. It's really great to hear so much from a current student!

Speaking as an OOS interviewee (October) without an offer as yet, does anyone know if they've given out the bulk of OOS offers along with the bulk of prematch offers? Grasping at straws here 🙁

I am so sorry to hear that 🙁. I was in the same situation last year. If UTSW truly is your top choice, send a letter in and let the admissions office know that. I don't know if it would help, but I did that way too late last year and in my case it definitely did nothing because I sent it too late. I'll have my fingers crossed for you.
Also there should still be a few offers going out until mid-December.
If you don't get an offer by then unfortunately you'll be stuck waiting until there's movement on the waitlist in late March/April/May. BUT silver lining, that's what happened to me last year and in the end I got in!

I also prematched! Does anyone remember what the schedule is like for pre-clerkship? Half days? Somehow this info didn't make it into my notes
It will be half days almost every day after Thanksgiving and until December 2017 (for my class).
From August until Thanksgiving we've had dissections and such in the afternoons (not every day though).
One nice thing to note too is every lecture is recorded. And our grading is a true P/F until clerkships begin. We do see our grades for personal reference, but once they are posted on the transcript only the P remains, no % or rank.
