2016-2017 University of Vermont Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Received an II this morning! LizzyM 65-70. Secondary submitted 8/11/16. Not sure if I was ever "small" pooled - As a rule for myself, I stay off those portals 🙂

I have been so impressed with UVM and can't wait to go explore! Good luck to everyone out there!!

Anyone know if they just send II at sorta random intervals or if they meet as a committee and send them out in bunches?

Most schools send them out in bunches after the committee meets... How often they meet and how many they send out at a time is school dependent

OOS , Lizzy 71 , complete mid July and pooled...so does that mean I still have a chance at a II, or have I been passed over?

You're still in; I was small pooled for a few weeks too and got an II

I have no idea why it is referred to as the "small" pool. It seems like everyone is pooled and the message on the applicant portal does not say small. I'd say we're all drowning in a sea of our collective pre-med tears.

I think one of the reasons it keeps getting called a "small pool" is because the portal says "you are within a pool of applicants to which an interview may be extended". So essentially people are interpreting the "pool" of applicants as at least mildly selective, or else why would they have that update? I agree that the pool feels huge, but this is also SDN and the population on here is not representative of the average person who applies to med school. Just my thoughts.

sorry if this seems like a silly question but are we supposed to send thank you emails/notes for MMI style interviews?

But isn't it either the small pool or a rejection? So it's either small pool or no pool, therefore the size of the pool is irrelevant.

(UVM adcoms laugh at this thread hard)

Please get me out of this pool.
I've been threading water for months now.
My arms are getting tired.
Hope I get an invite soon before I drown.

i'm getting all prune-y
and they won't like me anymore

People do get rejected pre-pool. Everyone goes to small-pool prior to interview invitation from what I can see. I don't think people get notified of being small-pooled...

But the old folks like prunes, I've heard.

Really? People get rejected pre pool? Is it like a silent rejection until March thing?

From what I see in past threads, they'll start rejecting people pre-pool around December and people from the small pool around late Feb/early March.

I'm sure there's sophisticated black magic going around in the background, but that's the best that I can speculate based on past threads.

Anyone from UVM/Burlington know any good places to eat/grab a beer at? I want to check out the city a little after my II (hopefully somewhere by the water)

I'm not sure about any restaurants but I hear that you gotta get a Heady Topper IPA made by The Alchemist Brewery (if you're into IPAs at least). I haven't tried it but I'm definitely gonna seek it out when I interview myself!

Heady Toppers are the best!! You should be able to get it at a bar, its hard to get from stores because they only distribute on certain days and they sell out usually within an hour of distribution, so you have to know the time the store normally gets it!

oh UVM, you naughty school
take me out
of this sludgy pool.
this grimey pool,
with little cool,
has no chill,
but dry-off I will

oh UVM, don't play so hard
don't break my heart
don't even start,
not with me,
not today,
"I'm the best for you,"
they all say.
But I really am!
To my core and back,
so take my words
and cut me slack!
What do they have
that I don't?
Besides a 4.0
and full mink coat?
Read me, believe me,
no laughing matter,
until you do
I will doggy paddle!

I too would be interested in this food and beer question...

Apparently it's parents weekend at UVM the weekend I interview.... every hotel in Burlington is booked... except Motel 6 (wooooo :smack:)

That was my original date but I got reschedule to 9/24... I'll let you know some good places I find after my interview!
How'd you guys get such early interviews? Mine was scheduled for 11/5.. Is it because I'm West Coast? Tbh, I haven't keeping up with this thread, so I was blissfully unaware about any pools or anything. I got my II on 9/12 if that helps.

Did you try their Student Housing Program Google Doc?

Yes I got an email yesterday that said none was available... May have been filled up since I got switched to this date kind of late

November is still early don't worry... I think everyone that got offered on 9/12 have interviews for 10/15 and 11/5 (they seem to interview every 3 weeks)

Depends on what you want!

Pizza: American Flatbread
Crepes: Skinny Pancake (and it is right on the waterfront!)
Good view: Breakwaters.
Breakfast or Brunch: Penny Cluse.

I would also highly recommend Our House Bistro in Winooski. They have an entire page of their menu dedicated to macaroni and cheese. When in Vermont...

mmmmm that Mac n Cheese sounds delicious... I am only going to be there for a short time, I think I want somewhere with a good view so I can take some pics 🙂

The best (and most underrated) lunch in town is at Luck Next Door, which is right next to Penny Cluse. They share the same kitchen but everything is under $10 and it's sooooo good.

Is it... Is it real? This can't be real. That's basically what my dreams are made of

To add on to this, Farmhouse Grill and Tap is phenomenal, albeit a pricy. Right off of Church St. in Burlington.

Secondary completed late July/early August, portal still says "Your supplemental application has been received. Please note that it may take 6-8 weeks for all materials to be processed....". Anyone else still with this status? I know it's still early, but I'm starting to freak out (neurotic, I know).

Mine was scheduled for December. If it can be rescheduled, I'm not sure why everyone got random dates.

I guess pictures help.

I'm lactose intolerant, but I'll gladly take that diarrhea for that mac and cheese.
