2016-2017 University of Vermont Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah I was debating sleeping in the airport but I really wanted an ironing board
Have you tried finding a current student either from this or earlier threads and PM them to see if they or any of their friends would be willing to let you stay with them for a night. I don't see why people wouldn't be willing to help.

nvm

I was going to do that but I didn't want to seem stalker-y. It may come down to it though.

And for anyone coming on the 18th for the 19th date of October, you can message me if you want to share a cab/room.

Call them and tell you that a certain freak needs you to move the date so we can split stuff.

Hey, current UVM student (M1) here if you have questions. I know the whole process sucks but don't give up hope! I made the mistake of applying somewhere ED, didn't get in, had to do all my applications in mid October, interviewed at UVM on the last interview day (late February), wait listed at the end of April, then got accepted in the beginning of May.

Hi there!

From my recent interview at UVM, seemed like the student-body was extremely close. Do you feel that you are incredibly close with all your classmates and that every one of them is easy to get along with?

How is the support system? Do you feel like you get the help you need (whether it's academics, mental health, support group)?

How did you feel about your interview day? Were you concerned about a couple of your answers in the MMI stations or did you feel like you nailed it? Thanks!

I'm pretty close with a lot of my classmates, there's noone I don't get along with. That's not to say there aren't people I actively seek out over others, but we're all a pretty friendly bunch. We have a big group thread running where we coordinate which bars to go to after particularly stressful exams and post about other fun goings-on.

The faculty put a huge emphasis on maintaining physical, mental, and academic well-being, and cite the studies that demonstrate its importance. They are very receptive and when you need help, they know where to direct you. They make a point to emphasize mental health as well. Within the first month, we had a mental health panel, where students with mental health issues talked about their experiences and the resources they used. They also have a wellness student interest group that hosts open weekly get-togethers to talk about the...unique...stresses of medical school

Interview day was actually kinda fun and I thought I did reasonably well. The MMI was kinda tricky, I felt like I nailed a couple questions, but there were others that threw me for a loop. I definitely didn't talk for the full amount of time without prompting secondary questions for the majority of the prompts.

I'm still looking for housing for Friday and/or Saturday night. Still willing to split everything. Will provide beer.

Any current students have friends who would be willing to put me up since student housing wasn't available?

Also: Does anybody know how hard it is to get from the Burlington Hostel to UVM?

I stayed at the hostel when I interviewed, it was about a 8 min drive. Super easy. It is just over a mile so you could probably walk if you really needed too.

I'm assuming you just Uber'd or something?

Hey everyone. Will be interviewing here on the 15th. If anyone wants to grab a beer/explore the area afterwards let me know!

Me. I've been looking for an interview buddy for a while on this thread

I know right? I've been awkwardly posting to this thread alone for a little while now. I felt so lonely!

Well, I was always rooting for you!! I just had no way to help because I am trapped in this miserable pool. Hope you have the best weekend ever in VT, enjoy a Heady Topper or Focal Banger for me!

I know it doesn't help with the trying to find a place to stay, but if it's any consolation you'll make so many friends at the actual interview because they really make sure you get to know your fellow interviewees. I ended up going out to eat and getting drinks with a bunch of people just by shouting out that we were going to meet at a specific place at 5 and anyone was invited if they didn't have an immediate flight. It was so much fun and made me fall even more in love with the school since they clearly care about the kind of people they interview. So, I promise you won't have to eat mac and cheese alone 🙂 Good luck and have fun!

I just ended up booking at the Burlington hostel. It came up in an airbnb search but not when I googled hotels.

I fell in the pool. You fell in the pool.

I was complete around 9/15 and placed in the "small pool" approx. 2weeks later. Is everyone eventually placed in the small pool? Does the timing of your placement in the small pool have any relevance so to speak?

Well, some people have been complete since way back in the cycle and still haven't been small pooled yet. Order seems random to me...

Interviewed yesterday. Loved the school and the faculty. They all seem to legitimately care so much for the students and want you to succeed.

Also hung out with a group of fellow interviewees and had a blast... then I passed out for 11 hours from pure exhaustion

has anyone heard back for an II since being pooled in mid august

@freak7 did the admissions folks say anything about releasing decisions tmrw from past II dates?

I don't think they said anything about your group, but to our group they said to expect it by Christmas. I would assume that if you interviewed during the first slots, you'll get an email this week.

I personally wouldn't assume anything about your group. Our group was told "before Christmas" and they seem to have an EXTREMELY holistic and thorough screening process which is anything but random.

You group I'd guess will know before ours, but I have no evidence for that opinion

Didn't they tell 8/27 people we would hear today? SO nervous!!

Waitlisted. Just got the email. Interviewed 8/27. Could be better, could be worse!

Good luck to all the other 8/27ers!
