2016-2017 Virginia Commonwealth University Application Thread

Sorry if this is a silly question, but: the $100 fee is an enrollment deposit, right? As in, we pay it to hold our spot even if we haven't decided where we're going yet?

For those of you who paid the acceptance deposit: did you receive any kind of email confirmation? I paid the fee but haven't gotten any confirmation and when I go back to the deposit tab, there is nothing there that says I paid the deposit.

Yes it basically says that they have reserved a seat in the class and they are looking forward to having us in august. it was a status change with an email update

Yes; it took about a day for me to receive an email and portal update confirming my payment

You're not alone! I also paid the fee but got no confirmation, and my deposit tab still pulls up the "pay fee" stuff.

EDIT: Nevermind, just got the status update and portal change to confirm payment!

i havent had a chance to read through the thread but are we able to call the office to find out more about our status?
Im currently at the "your file has been reviewed and you will be notified if you get an interview..." stage and have had this for several weeks lol just tryna figure out if i still have a chance or can find out more about a timetable

Looking to book my travel itinerary for this interview (coming from afar). Is it bold if I flew in Fri night/Sat morning to DC (never been, always wanted to check it out) hung out there for a bit, then took a train Sun night/Mon morning into Richmond (Interview is on Tues)? Or should I just fly directly to Richmond. Looks like either option would cost roughly the same in terms of flight/train tickets.

On a separate note, do they e-mail us an Interview day itinerary (MMI? vs 1-on-1)? Haven't received conf. for scheduling an II or even an e-mail notifying me of the portal update.

Thanks guys/gals!

Anyone still have this status? Complete July 15th

"
Your M.D. file is now complete. The Sub-Committee will now do a review of your application. Once this review is complete, you will receive a status update regarding your profile."

I am in the exact same boat as you. Complete since 7/15 and have been stuck at this status

II today. Had very interested status for ~1 month.... scheduled for 2/28.... god please help me. I suck at MMI's......
Congratulations! My interview experience at VCU was really laid back and friendly - don't stress out too much about it being an MMI 🙂

Thank you for clarifying! Ahhh so excited, some of us may be future classmates!

If you're coming from afar and have never been to DC and it's similar in terms of cost, then why not? I'm from the DC area and I miss it so I may be biased but I think it's definitely worth spending time there if you can afford to! However, I would maybe suggest doing it the other way around and flying to Richmond for the interview first and then going up to and flying out of DC if you can just to avoid any stress/chance of any transportation issues the day before the interview. That way you can really enjoy your time in both places! Good luck!!

I don't see why not. You're giving yourself all of Monday to travel back to Richmond. But, I would check the weather in advance. If there's a chance of snow, I would do it backwards if you have the ability to do so. Interview, and then go to D.C. Then you have zero stress if your train gets delayed and what not.

Just got a portal update from interview complete to placed on hold. Guess I'll have to wait until February! Fingers crossed, I love this program. :nailbiting:

Guess I didn't think about it the other way around  thanks for the advice!

How long did it take accepted students to receive the acceptance packet in the mail?

I have received no such packet. Unless a previous post I am unaware of contradicts this, I don't think one gets sent out. I think the portal and stuff opens up about Feb/ March according to some quality stalking of last year's thread on SDN and the accepted student thread on FB.

Thanks for clarifying! So we don't get an official acceptance letter etc?

As far as I know you complete the necessary forms in the portal. They use that information to process your finaicial aid package, which I'm guessing is sent via postal.

IS, URM, LizzyM 61, Completed early September...stuck on "
Your File Review is now complete. If you are granted an interview, you will receive a status update on your applicant portal. Please do not call the Admissions Office requesting special dates."
Silly to hold onto hope for an II or no?

At this point, your guess is as good as anyone's! But I'd say hold onto hope. You're in the running until proven otherwise.

I've had the same status since a bit before Thanksgiving. Fingers crossed for some II's in January/February for both of us!

So I never got any portal updates of any kind, but my portal now says "Matriculation Form" and "Pay Enrollment Fee..." does that mean I've been accepted? I never got a letter...
Hey classmate,

I was offered admission and I paid the fee and completed the matric form. I have the PDF receipt, but no email confirmation. My portal still says the same thing as before (Congratulations, offer admission, welcome to VCU etc.)

When I go into the "Pay enrollment fee" there is no evidence there that I paid, and it looks like I could pay again if I wanted.

How does your portal look/did you receive an email confirmation?

I think that's what the portal looks like for all accepted applicants.

My status changed after paying the deposit. It says that the payment has been received and that the credit card statement will serve as a receipt.

Huh, that's strange. I still haven't gotten any kind of receipt, but I paid it last week...

I think the delay might just be because of the holidays! I'm sure it will update soon for you though. Also, I never got the official acceptance status update message. I just had the two additional tabs appear, and then once I paid the deposit, it changed to the fee paid status the next day.

I never got an official acceptance status message either! Just the two tabs and the fee paid status as well. VCU's portal is really messed up this year haha
