What hotels are people staying at or are there any hotels that provide shuttles to the school in the morning?
I am staying at the Holiday Inn Express the night before mine. Was $121 and they said they have a shuttle to campus which starts at 7am and u just book the day before. PLUS FREE BREAKFAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey all, current OOS M1 at VCU. Feel free to ask me any questions you have about vcu, interviews, or just med school applications or med school life in general! Happy to help in any way possible

Haven't checked the portal in a few days.

Checked it right now and saw the status change to:

Your File Review is now complete. If you are granted an interview, you will receive a status update on your applicant portal. Please do not call the Admissions Office requesting special dates.

At least there is some movement, but hopefully its not a bad thing lol. Kinda assuming it is.

Unfortunately that is the hold status - there is a small chance you could still eventually get an II! It has happened a few times in previous threads, though not many 🙂 Best of luck!

I got that status a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure how hopeful to be about it.

How sure are you that that is the hold status? Because I have had the "very interested" status for months and not received an interview so I feel like that is the definition of hold....I just don't know that any of it makes enough sense for us to say for sure.

I would assume the very interested status is better than the "your file review is now complete..." but it seems like last year there were more than just two statuses so it could mean similar things. It's really hard to tell with vcu

If they are following last year's patterns, quite sure.

The very interested status at least seems to indicate for some that they may have moved onto a subcommittee for further review? More people with II have had the very interested status compared to those with just "file complete". I believe there's a post in this thread detailing what all the statuses mean / have meant in previous years.

(Then again, VCU seems to be flailing this year in terms of getting things done in time / giving statuses that make sense.... I mean flailing. Literally imagining VCU as an awkward octopus desperately trying to sort a giant pile of applications. I'm also quite possibly losing my mind from this cycle 🙂 )

I got this status sometime in early September and eventually got an II in mid October before some people I know had the "very interested" status so I don't know exactly how closely they follow their statuses but you should definitely not lose hope.

Has anybody here have had the "very interested" status since August with no status change so far? I'm starting to think the status was more of random categorization than an actual expression of interest.

I had this status up until 2 weeks ago, when I was rejected. It seems to be a sort of pre-interview hold. Best of luck.

Been complete and under review for three months and I just refreshed the portal and the hold messages are on my screen again....did they forget my file??

No they didn't. Your time will come whether it is a rejection or an II. The only thing you can do is wait.

Can anyone who interviewed here please shed some light on the MMI? Was it hard? It's my first one so I'm kinda nervous

Also on the information it says we have eight minutes to interact for each station does that mean we are the only ones talking for eight minutes? or will it be somewhat conversational with the interview in that that they will be asking follow up questions as well?

No, I think it was just different. It was my first MMI too, but they give you scenarios that you have 2 mins to come up with an answer before you go in. The interviewer will ask you guiding questions about the scenario so you don't just go off on your own...

I would suggest doing practice questions online if you are super nervous. They are just like "name a time when --- happened" or some ethical scenario. Mostly you just wanna find a way to use examples from your extracurriculars and other experiences to answer the questions. Also repeat the scenario or question when you enter the room, for both you and your interviewer's benefit.

Thanks for the response! Best of luck to you!

You don't really have to repeat the question for the interviewer's benefit. They know which question it is because they do it nine times in a row. 😉

I just thought it was helpful to repeat, so the idea was fresh for both of us. Plus it gives you a place to begin instead of awkwardly just starting to talk.

Also got an II this morning after having the 'interested' status for around two months! No email notification, finally my neurotic portal checking paid off :heckyeah:

II offered after the "very interested" status change in August - it's been a long wait but I'm so excited!! Got an email notification of a status change and saw the schedule interview tab in portal. Earliest dates available were in January 2017.

Has anyone gotten an interview after this "Your File Review is now complete. If you are granted an interview, you will receive a status update on your applicant portal," status?

Does anyone still have the
"Your M.D. file is now complete. The Sub-Committee will now do a review of your application. Once this review is complete, you will receive a status update regarding your profile."
status or should I maybe try calling them at this point?

I have for over 2 months.

Over three months and counting here... I wouldn't be surprised if there are July applicants (so >4 months) with it as well.

Can anyone provide some insight as to the MMI here? The information that VCU has on their web portal is a little confusing...

just got the "your review is now complete...if granted an interview, etc..." I am IS and was hoping for an II here but at least its not a rejection i guess!
