2016-2017 Wayne State University Application Thread

The admissions tracker has finally been updated. They've sent 220 interview requests already! Did not expect that much to have been sent already. That's basically 1/3 of their annual invitations. I guess this is what happens when you apply late 😵.

I applied in mid July and no word. It's definitely not a given.

Complete late July

How many interviews do they offer exactly, do you know? Complete late July and (im)patiently waiting for a sign 😛

They offer roughly 700 interviews. A lions share go to ISS with less then 200 going to OSS.

For those lucky enough to have gained an interview I think at least half will get an acceptance unless there was something really terrible in the interview. This analysis is based on the assessment that they have 500 instate interviews and 200 instate seats. Roughly for every seat a medical school has it has to send out 1.5-2x acceptances. So depending on that exact amount after attending an instate interview your chances of acceptance to the school are roughly 60-80%.

Thanks for answering my question. Bummer for me since I'm OOS and people complete after me have been invited to interviews, but I'll hang in there!

At the interview did they tell you when the first date of acceptances would be?

Last year it looked like they said before or on October 28th for the first round of admissions. After Oct 15th seems much more vague lol

FYI emailed office, who said they will be offering ~1,000 interview invites this cycle.
Holy crap that's a lot. Last year according to MSAR, they only offered 671. They must have gotten an unprecedented amount of apps this year or they are expanding their class size significantly (maybe both).

No it's good, 3720 applications received:1000 interview invites is pretty great! They will be sending out more II over the next few months so we will wait and see. Don't give up hope!
I find that 3740 number hard to believe...I would assume Wayne gets way more apps than that!

Just quoting the Admissions Tracker on the Admissions home page! So far it says:
Admissions tracker
3720 Applications
220 Interviews requested
73 Interviews completed
0 Admission offers

Of course more people may apply from now until the fall deadline but so far I guess they've received 3720? Pretty good odds for an II if you ask me!

I was sad because if you have already interviewed chances for acceptance are lower. They did 560 IS interviews last year. With 220 acceptances. With 220 oos interviews with 40 acceptances. 300 more interviews means lower chance of acceptance post interview.

Maybe they're increasing seat number? Also I think they're pushing really hard to have a more diverse class so that may have a play in this.

wayne is interesting. a ton of my friends (almost all) that interviewed here last year got waitlisted right away. however, majority of them got off the waitlist up to the week before orientation. So, from what I've seen there has been ton of waitlist movement at this school

The other question is that maybe some people when offered interview decline? but it is almost 300 more interviews from last year. Supposing they are still proportional to the number of IS vs OOS that means 189 more interviews IS and 82 more interviews OOS. The odds for acceptance post interview go from 60% to 53% for IS interviewee's vs OOS going from 35% to 23.7. So higher chance of rejection post interview. This is assuming a acceptances sent out are 1.5X the number of seats.

Office says "it is mainly due to increase in applications. Our class size will remain at 290 exactly".

Where are you getting these numbers? According to MSAR 520 IS were interviewed last year with 218 matriculating. 151 OOS interviewed and 50 matriculated. And that's matriculated. I'm sure everyone that was accepted didn't actually matriculate.

Tiny antibody called and they said they are interviewing 1000 people vs 750~is they interviewed last year.
I was using MSAR from data from 2015 version.

meh, lets not worry about it ya'll. just do your best interview day!

i for one, am grateful they're extending more interviews. there are a lot of schools who would not do that even if they received twice as many applications.

The portal says I have an II but I haven't received an email, I'm assuming this is a mistake?

Do they add new tab or change Med School in for Review (MR) to interview?

Dude, I have the lowest stats they would even consider, you don't need luck!
Yeah, well stats arent everything. I have no research, Volunteering hours are on the low side, and no official shadowing until sometime in the next couple weeks....
I thought my military service would make up for some of that, but Im starting to have my soubts by now.
Havent givwn up hope yet, though, so we'll see....
