Do they automatically consider you for the bridge program if you apply?

Everyone that sends an application to the MD program is technically considered for the Bridge program. Based on your application, the school decides whether you would be a good fit for the program. There is no way to apply separately.

I know this was probably asked somewhere above, but scrolling through all the pages seems harder than just re-asking:
Do they accept updates? If so, where do we submit them?

Yes, email your updates to MedAdmissions@ med.fsu.edu

Silence here this year and last year full cycle, I would definitely even take the bridge option but no luck yet.
You'd /even/ take the bridge option? How noble of you.
The Bridge program is supposed to help out people from rural communities who, for whatever reason, don't test as well on the standardized tests- to give them a shot at becoming a doctor and fulfilling the mission statement that the school puts forward. And, I'm sure my FSU COM colleagues on here can agree that the bridge students in each year are usually quite clinically proficient and help out the lost first years like I was in anatomy. The Bridge program is a great opportunity.

Heres the FSUCOM application timeline that may help answer some questions about the admission process

Wait so the deadline to complete FAFSA for FSU is 1/1/2018. Im one of many people who I imagine are still waiting to hear back. Is this common for medical schools to have such an early deadline? Should I be completing a fafsa for all of the schools Im waiting on?

So it looks like that is actually a little incorrect from what I’ve gathered. In the past, the FAFSA used to open on the 1st, but now that is considered the priority deadline (AKA a better shot at grant programs). You can also put multiple schools on the FAFSA so if you are worried, I would fill it out with a mix of your accepted/top choice schools. The link below was on the FSU financial aid site but I would ultimately call or email for confirmation of the right course of action.

Hey guy,
I hope you all are doing well. It feels very weird to me that in less than 18 months I will graduate from FSU College of medicine 🙂
So I have a couple of messages to the different populations on this page:
1. The people that have not received an II yet: I get that it is 12/22, and I understand why you'd be feeling discouraged. You have to understand something though: the number of apps that FSU COM receives is staggering. Just because you haven't gotten an II yet doesn't mean that it won't happen. I had classmates of mine getting II's until April. And, sometimes the ways that they read the apps is just varied-- for example, my friend who was submitted earlier with higher stats wasn't given an II until November and didn't interview until January, while I was extended an II in October and interviewed in December. Don't lose hope. You're halfway through the process now, now is the time where you have to trust the process and your application. If any of you want to talk about the cycle/FSU COM specific questions, PM me.
2. The people that have received and II and haven't gone in yet: So I've had several people PM me about II's at FSU- Essentially there are 2 interviews that last 45 min-hour. For me, they were very relaxed and conversational. I know that people claim that about all institutions but I interviewed at multiple different places and FSU COM had, by far, the most hospitality and relaxed nature. Do some mock interviews, know your app well, be able to talk about important components of your app and why FSU specifically. Any other questions, PM me.
3. The people that have received an II and are waiting for the answer: You've done all you can. I know that doesn't seem very helpful but try to stay encouraged, and try to envision yourself as a student in the class of 2022. That's what I did. Any thoughts, PM me.
4. People who have received an II and have the answer: waitlist- I understand that this might seem frustrating, but what I was told was waitlist people are those that they want to accept if they have problems with filling their class, and there have been people getting in off the waitlist, so don't lose hope. Also Bridge is still possible. Any thoughts, you know where to find me.
5. People who have received an II and have the answer: hold-- This result is discouraging, I understand. It is not a straight-up rejection, though. Bridge program and regular acceptance is still possible. Try to stay positive, if anything for the next cycle if need be. PM me for encouragement.
6. People who have received an II and have the answer: acceptance-- Welcome to the FSU COM Class of 2022 if you're going to accept the offer! I'm Saxappeal1, a future M4, and are more than happy to answer any questions you might have about the college of medicine, what the summer will be like, Tallahassee in general (I lived there on and off for 17 years,) or anything else. PM me if you want to chat.
Overall, I hope you guys receive good fortune in the coming weeks and months in this tortuous application process.
Cheers

Well said, fellow FSUCOMer. Stay positive people, everything happens for a reason! I was the second to last interview day, was basically told I had no chance to get in at the time, and was straight up accepted 2 weeks later (and roughly 2 weeks before summer semester started). Anything can happen! Also willing to answer any questions y'all may have whether it be about the interview process, the waiting period, what the school looks for in students, recent big changes to the curriculum, etc. Just PM me!

I'm having a hard time finding this. I didn't realize it was due this early. Where can I find this/more info? Thanks for being more on top of it than myself. Now I need to figure this out for the rest of the schools I applied to. I feel like it may come off as a bit presumptuous to add all of the schools that i've applied to to my FAFSA. Sorry for the off-topic-ness of this post. Thanks 🙂

Submitted secondary at the end of August and just got marked 'under review' last week....?? Is this normal for FSU?

I don’t think that’s normal because I was marked for review the same day I submitted my secondary. That being said, if I’m incorrect, is it normal to be under review for almost 2.5 months??

I'm curious about this as well- been under review for about three months.

Been under review since August.

Has the class of 2022 made a Facebook page yet??

Is there a difference between your application being put on hold vs being put on the waitlist? I'm pretty sure FSU putting your application on hold is just their way of saying waitlist right?

I don't think its the same, I'm not sure. Maybe I'm mistaken. Any current M1's, want to chime in?

Logged onto FSU account and my secondary application was open and it gave me an option to Release it to FSU. Thought I did this in July?! Ugh. So in the timeline it says Secondary Application was received today, but my "Application Under Review By the Office of Admissions" date was a little over a week ago. bruh

Was your app ever "under review"? It should say in the application status tab. I've been under review but I still see that option in the top right corner.

Actually, every time I log into the account, it opens up to the secondary (looks like I can edit it too) and gives me the option to Release it to FSU. So, I guess that's just how their interface works.

Any pre interview rejections? Hard to sit and wait those others on this thread are very encouraging

Interviews go through the end of April. Thus, if you have not received any II by early/mid April you will likely have to re-apply for the next cycle.
I read somewhere where another applicant mentioned the class is filled by mid March??

Not necessarily. Spots shuffle and waitlists move around.
So anyone interviewing tomorrow, good luck! PM me with questions if you're nervous.

Does FSU have both a distinct waitlist and hold list or is it the same thing? Many people from last years forum claimed to be put on the waitlist but FSUCOM's website doesnt mention the term "waitlist". Sorry for being so technical but im on the hold list so I want to know for sure 🙂 thanks yall.

Submitted secondary app on 10/23, on review since 10/24. No interview offer yet (probably not a surprise lol). 21 y/o male, ORM, GPA: 3.94, MCAT: 511. Graduated in 2.5 years from UF with BS Biology (took pre-reqs and upper level classes in each science subject, e.g. 3000+ level courses). Hundreds of hours of volunteering, extracurricular, community service, research, etc. Work as a medical scribe, but have shadowed several physicians, so basically have hundreds of hours of shadowing/clinical experience as well. First-time applicant. What are my odds?

I would say a pretty good chance, but then again I haven't received an interview yet either haha

If you don't mind me asking and if you're comfortable with sharing, what are your stats? I just want to gauge, if possible, what particular traits FSU looks for in applicants that may increase their likelihood for receiving an interview or even an acceptance offer.

If you go through the thread some people have posted what their stats are if they received an II. It's a pretty random process though so I'm not looking to much into it at the moment until I "hopefully" receive an II here soon. I'm just hoping my app stands out holistically because FSU likes to look at applicants on a holistic basis.

Yes, actually I have been "passively" scrolling through this and other similar threads for other medical schools. It was only recently that I obtained an account for SDN and decided to post meaningful questions on these threads. It just surprises me (and I don't want this statement to come off as "off-standish" or "arrogant") that some, if not many, people who have received interview invites (or were even accepted) have GPA/MCAT scores typically at or lower than the average for accepted applicants to FSU (i.e. avg is 3.74 GPA, MCAT 505, according to the MSAR). Perhaps the fact I applied late and they didn't may be a big factor explaining this interesting phenomenon? Or perhaps another factor I am unaware of that goes beyond just the "numbers" (i.e. socioeconomic/ethnic background, ECs, passion to pursue medicine as a career, etc.)? Maybe I just didn't realize how truly competitive application to medical school is lol.

In regards to what you mentioned, I think the holistic process was taken into consideration. They don't just take into account test scores and GPA's, but also other things like awards, published research papers, thousands of hours of service, if you live in a rural area (which is the main mission of FSU), how well you've exposed yourself to medicine through different areas. These applicants could of had something that made them stand out to the admissions committee. I also think applying late is why I have not heard back yet too... things to consider.

@DrHopeful12 Thanks for the informative response! Just another quick question, and it may be more personal to you (it is alright if you prefer not to answer this), have you received any other interview invites/acceptances to other schools? I'll be honest and humble to say I have not, but that's probably most likely due to the fact that I shortchanged myself by only applying to 5 schools, 2 of which are OOS (I'm a resident in FL) AND applied late to each of them (submitted secondaries in October, I'm being serious)! XD I'm too cheap and have discovered how incredibly *ridiculously* expensive it is to submit even a single application to medical school.

I can shed a little light on your previous posts I think. FSU takes a pretty well rounded class overall. You'll find people in each class with low undergrad GPAs and low MCAT, high GPAs and high MCAT, low GPAs and high MCAT, high GPA and low MCAT...you get where I'm going with this. I think the status quo is for medical schools to have a relatively hard cut off for both numbers and people below that threshold aren't considered - that's where you see a discrepancy with FSU. Medical school applications are extremely competitive though and FSU isn't an exception to that. FSU, like a lot of schools, is heavily mission driven and so if you don't in someway match their mission your chances are definitely reduced.

I second the mission-driven. Based on what friends have told me and what I’ve been reading, FSU seems pickier in who it invites because of its mission focus, and I get the impression they don’t want to interview people who might drop them in favor of a “higher stats” school. However, the MSAR data suggest that you have a better chance of acceptance if given an II than other schools.

Im pretty sure being put on hold is FSU's way of saying waitlist, especially seeing how they don't have a waitlist option in their Admissions Decisions page.

Anyone accepted off this hold list as of this cycle yet?

Anyone accepted off this hold list as of this cycle yet?
FSU is still interviewing people and in the process of accepting people directly so most likely no. I'm pretty sure people get bumped off the hold list towards the end of the cycle when accepted students end up choosing a different medical school to attend causing FSU to fill their class via waitlist.

Stats if you don't mind sharing?
GPA 3.79 MCAT 511 I graduated in December and am working as a TA in Orgo 2 Lab this semester. I think my story is what stands out. I spent high school getting well enough to go to college and my time at TCC getting well enough to go to FSU. I don't have more than about 200 documented service hours and 200 shadow hours because of that. I want to work with under served chronic illness, so my focus lines up well with the school's mission. If you want to work with the rural or under served and have some experience (I grew up in a rural area) then you should fit, too. That's just my 2 cents...

Are they pretty much finished with II at this point?
