Email for me said within 10 days of getting the email. I think I took about 2 weeks to get it done so I’m not so sure about how stringent they are about it

For some reason I thought it would be due around the same time as the tuition? Also I found it odd that the check wasn't a part of the $1500 we already paid tbh other schools did the check for free

I just made an account for the background check but got an error message saying my info wasn't on file. Did anyone else get that too? If so, how long before it got uploaded or did you have to call the school? Thanks!

It typically takes a couple of days after you received the email. I remember I had to wait about 2 days before they had my information on file.

after we receive the background check is there any need to send anything to the school? or do they get their own copy?

As far as the background check, you're done as long as you've paid and everything. The school will have their own copy in the system.

Are they serious about this April 16th tuition deadline? That feels absurdly early.

It is.

As long as you are signed up for financial aid through FAFSA and accept your unsubsidized loans, then later go through the Grad-Plus process (I’m sure you’ll get an email when that opens up) then tuition will be automatically dispersed to the school in August and the excess refunded to you shortly after. Pay no attention to the tuition deadline except as a reminder to have your FAFSA done ASAP. As long you do that part and the Grad-Plus process when it opens the rest will be taken care of.

I’m sure our financial aid offices at OW and JB would love to take calls with questions if you have them. I know here in JB our financial aid is handled by one of the genuinely great individuals on campus.

Does anyone know how long it has taken the admission office at the old westbury campus to get back to the interviewers at this stage in the game in march?

they told us 6-8 weeks, but i was thinking at this point i should hear sooner than that.

has anyone who has interviewed lately heard back quickly?

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but if hypothetically we are waiting on a state MD school for example then can we wait to accept our unsubsidized loans/Grad-Plus until we hear back from the other school(s) in May?

I’ll give you my thoughts, but I cannot 100% promise that I am correct. You could always call up and verify. You wouldn’t be the first student ever to change your mind later on.

You could wait, but there wouldn’t really be a reason to do so in my mind. Accepting these loans won’t automatically and immediately disperse them to the school. Withdrawing in May SHOULD allow you to pull out of all of that without penalty/with minimal penalty such as losing your deposit. It IS a deposit, after all.

I imagine that you could wait so long as you’ve done the other stuff like you were supposed to, such as the deposits, background check, immunizations, etc. if you are concerned about it. As a general rule of thumb I would always ask in these cases. Medical schools don’t (or shouldn’t) take it personally that you’re considering other options. Open and honest communication with the school is always the best bet.

As an aside, if your state MD school works out, I recommend calling our school to let us know of your decision. I know this is the business, but I can bet it is appreciated when someone calls versus email. The schools I had to call for that same reason seemed more appreciative - apparently some people never actually say anything and they just don’t sign up for housing, etc. Calling allows them to pull someone form the waitlist earlier and get them set up, so the courtesy is as much to your colleagues and it is to the school.

Hope that helped and made sense.

has anyone recently heard from them about acceptances or waitlists or rejections? someone who interviewed recently?

How is the tuition due on April 16 if some people from the waitlist wont be accepted until much later?

*Disclaimer again: Do not work for NYIT or our FA office, so I am making a few assumptions, but they seem reasonable to me and will hopefully help make sense of this confusion*

It isn’t. Financial aid can be arranged quickly enough, believe it or not. If your FAFSA is ready to go except for the chosen school, then a quick amendment to it is all that is needed should you get accepted.

And again, tuition is not technically due by then. They want you to have the FAFSA done and ready to go by then. They receive a notice when you file for your FAFSA to receive loans for our school. That’s what they want by 4/16. It is a guarantee that, come August, the school will receive your tuition payment in the form of your loans because you have been approved for them and clearly dictated that they be directed to NYITCOM.

Having that locked down is what they are looking for, or maybe a payment plan set if you have the ability to swing tuition yourself. The reason it is so easy to receive a refund prior to classes starting is because funds will not even be dispersed until then anyway.

Much like a deposit, the idea is that having a secured path to payment (filed FAFSA) acts as a placeholder for your seat. If you do not commit to payment of tuition, much like the deposit, the idea is that you may not be committed. So the school could then look to place someone in your seat who is committing (I’m sure there are takers in this forum).

how can they expect people to pay by april 16?!
'

So I literally went down tot eh campus to talk to them about that. Instead of semesterly payments, NYCOM employs a ten-month payment plan that is optional. Either you enroll in the 10 month payment plan and pay your tuition like that, or you pay the first half of the first years fees twice, once before April 16th and then the second half in November. I highly recommend reaching out to get more info on how to enroll.

You would enroll on the NYITConnect portal. I just emailed fin aid and they said my loan will be dispersed 14 days before the first day of classes. Since my loan covers the tuition the payment is no longer due on April 16th for some reason

If I accept the loans until when can i cancel them and not take the loan?

I'm not sure. I accepted my loan and if I am accepted at a different school and decide to attend, I believe that loan transfers to the new institution. If you accept the loan and then don't want it anymore, I'm sure you can pay it off immediately (as a last resort) and get it over with.

Ok so I am assuming this doesnt apply to waitlisted students..?

You can cancel loans prior to distribution with no penalty, and you can technically return them for a short while after but it is a potentially messy process because there is a loan origination fee and whatnot to worry about for grad plus.

Btw, grad plus applications are now open!
