Please post the essays or lack thereof (in addition to word or character counts) in this thread and tag one of the pre-allo mods (WedgeDawg, Ismet, Lucca, or gyngyn) so we can update the OP.

Good luck to everyone applying!

Here are the 2017-2018 prompts (compared to last year's prompts, prompt 1 and 2 have been slightly changed and a 5th prompt has been added) :

Please select all that apply:

  2. I would like to be considered for PRIME-Drew
  3. If I am not considered for PRIME, I would like to be considered for the Geffen MD program
Essay prompts (2000 characters with spaces for each prompt):

1) What is the most important social issue confronting the health of disadvantaged communities and what would be your first steps to address this issue?
2) In what way will graduating from UCLA PRIME and obtaining a master's degree enhance your career in health care or health services for disadvantaged communities? (If you are considering a specific master’s degree (e.g. MPP, MPH, MBA, etc.), please incorporate your graduate degree plans or aspirations into your answer)
3) Describe the manner in which your experiences demonstrate your understanding of, and commitment to, underserved communities.
4) What are your greatest strengths and your greatest challenges as you approach medical school?
5) What is your most memorable experience as it relates to working with vulnerable populations?

Just submitted the secondary yesterday! Hopefully I can get some love being from out of state.

So, just to make sure I understand, The secondary for prime entails all these 5 essays plus all the 10 prompts for the usual MD application?
Thank you

Yes. The PRIME part is actually longer than the main application lol.

Happy essay writing!

Hey Mr. Brah of Science, how do you do that signature under your post with stats?
Hover your mouse over your name in the upper right hand corner. Click on the link that says signature and you will then be able to put whatever you desire in your sig

Does anyone know if PRIME candidates are eligible for the David Geffen Scholarship?

I ask because PRIME is a 5-year program and the Geffen Scholarship website says the following: "The David Geffen Medical Scholarships are prestigious merit-based awards that provide four-year financial support to outstanding students entering the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA."

Based off of the website, tuition is provided for the 5th year regardless. However, I doubt they pay for your master's year. FYI I am no expert.

Any II’s yet? I know the website says “early December” but I’m not sure what that means lol

Darn! This is my dream program! Anyone know if more IIs are likely to go out or no?

Congratulations and good luck to y’all that got it!!

Last interview day for prime is this Saturday(13th)

I'm going to try to get on the phone with DGSOM admissions to see if they can give me any more info on how our apps our processed from here since they were very vague about it during the PRIME interview. I've emailed but they haven't replied to any of my emails.

do we know if anyone has been accepted yet? have not heard any news post interview.

How did people find out their application was transferred to Geffen? Through an email or through the portal?

Also didn’t they say we’d hear back the 3rd (this) week of March?

Hang in there y’all! If we survive the stress then we’ll be starting med school soon lol

I called this week. All offers have been made last week. We should be getting an email if we are waitlisted or sent to geffen "soon"....

I got it through an email last week. Not holding my breath for regular admission but it was a good ride while it lasted.
