I'll be interviewing here this week. Would anyone like to message me with information on how the day went?
They dont interview like other schools. There is no warm welcome/introduction at the beginning of the program by the Dean or director of admissions. You just get shown on the map where your interviews are and then leave. Once your are done interviewing with faculty, you get a presentation from Dr. Quezada and then from the finance people. Then lunch with students followed by a tour and then another session depending on which program you are applying to. Then you're free to go. I dont believe there was a wrap up session.

I am wondering the same thing. The school seems great, but I wouldn't mind saving that flight+hotel money for something else if my chances at an acceptances are pretty slim. Anyone have any experience with this?
Wut?

Any school can accept or reject you. If you have acceptances to another/other school(s) that you like better than Maryland, then maybe attending is not necessary. If not, attending your IIs is the smart move here. If cost is prohibitive...still think that these are chances that you should not forego. I see all IIs as opportunities not possible losses. Otherwise you might miss out.

Let me start over. I don't think it's smart to go to an interview where you know you'll be waitlisted with a very low chance of getting off. That's what I'm trying to figure out. Does interviewing this late in the game at this school call for an automatic waitlist? Perhaps someone has heard this on their interview day, or has called the office of admission, or knows through friends who are current students etc.
How do you know you’ll be waitlisted though? Where this has been stated, I am sure it is based on speculation which is not accurate. Unless the school directly informs you of that, I would not assume that this is necessarily the case. As I said before though, if you have no acceptances, definitely attend for the sake of giving yourself that chance. Just my 0.02.

I think he/she is asking if someone on this thread knows if interviewing later in the cycle (I assume March?) is an interview for a spot on the waitlist rather than a possible acceptance. It's a fair question. Some schools do this and only tell you during the interview day itself. I hope that is not the case for you Jmish :)

I dont think schools would invite you to an interview just to put you on their waitlist. They already have plenty of people on the waitlist. The admissions committee already reviewed your file and thought you were good enough to be a potential student at their school. The rest is up to you on interview day — make it or break it.

Not to make people more paranoid, but someone who was previously involved on the adcom at Maryland told me that their later interview dates (late march at least) are interviewing for waitlist positions.

Hmm..I wonder if that'll hold true this year given how many interviews were cancelled because of the weather. I'm guessing they had to reschedule a good amount of people.

Good point and I’m not sure about that!

They care about you much that they sent you two emails. I would be happy to share one R from you because they held me without an II.

Withdrawing from my interview invitation, best of luck to everyone!

Does anyone know when acceptances have been typically going out for this school? I know the interviews are hard to read, but was curious about acceptances.

Thanks in advance

I interviewed in January and received my acceptance on the morning of 2/13. Hope this helps!

Still on hold here... any shot at a II? I’m IS here and I’m in love with this school. Work at the medical center too and would love a chance to interview.

I received my interview invite a good month before the next available interview date. UMSOM says they interview through the end of this month, so I would think (personal opinion) that if you don't hear back by next week, then chances are very slim. That being said, the cycle is crazy and you never know until April; anything can happen!

Any suggestions for inns/hotels to go to? How safe are Russell St (Stadiums) and Downtown?

I stayed at the Kimpton and it was a really nice place, they have pretty good deals. I walked all the way to my interview. No problems with safety really. I don't know a lot about the safety near the casino. I'm staying at the Radisson for second look day right beside the Kimpton.

Can I ask when you were put on hold? I was complete 9/6 and put on hold in November and still in silence...

Waitlisted on Tuesday. Does anybody know what kind of movement the WL has?

Finally got the pre-II rejection this AM.. I was given that initial update status about how they were evaluating whether or not they could interview me. OOS, LM ~72, submitted July or August. Good luck guys!

WL this weekend, honestly stunned that it wasn't an outright rejection given that I got into an argument with my faculty interviewer  probably not the smartest move on my part hahahaha

You brave soul lol. When did you interview if you don't mind me asking?

When did they give you the update status (putting you on hold)? I have been on hold since November and have still not heard back from them.

The hold status update was November 8th for me and I didn't hear anything else until the rejection.

any accepted students know anything about financial aid stuff? I submitted my FAFSA but haven't got much word about financial aid application...

Hey folks, quick question ideally for any current students following this thread. In-state COA is estimated to be $69k by financial aid which seems ridiculously high considering tuition is $35k. I'm wondering if any current students can speak to overall cost at all, as some of the numbers from financial aid seem pretty high i.e. rent being $2150/month.

Cannot speak to whether they give any full COA merit scholarships, but I did receive a merit scholarship that is about 1/3 COA (in state)

what is the COA for in state? During my interview day they said around 67k? Also had a friend receive a 30k UMD Merit -- is that the one you got too?

How long after an acceptance does it usually take to receive a scholarship offer (if you are to receive one)?

I got 25k and I was accepted in October and just received the scholarship offer earlier this week but I wouldn’t be surprised if they started sending out scholarship stuff more recently

Thanks for answering our questions! Did you receive the notification via email or regular mail? I'm also in-state & received acceptance around that time as well.

Just rejected after being on hold since early December... Why do they even put people on hold? 2 years in a row that I’m placed on hold and rejected 4 months later.

I know your pain. It was 3 years in a row for me -_- (as an applicant who lives nearby, has worked at the medical school, and done thousands of community service hours in Baltimore). UMB is ridiculous, even moreso if you're an IS applicant.

Anyone else get scholarship info recently? Maybe the snow storm is delaying some news. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
