2017-2018 Wayne State University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
To all that have already interviewed here:
1. Is there parking available at Mazurek Commons, or do you have to park elsewhere?
2. If you were in the afternoon session, is there a lunch? If so what time? Just wondering so I don't eat too much beforehand!
Good luck to my fellow 12/4 interviewers! Let's kill it:highfive:

From their website:
Where should I park?
Parking is available in Lot 75. This lot is located across the street from the Mazurek Education Commons. Visitor parking is $7.75 per day and is payable via credit or debit card (VISA, Mastercard or Discover).

Lunch will be the very first thing- you’ll eat while M2/M3 students give you a presentation about the school.

Good luck!!

How receptive is Wayne of LOI's and updates? This school definitely left the best impression on me and is currently my number 1 choice if I were to get accepted everywhere I interviewed. I just don't wanna come off as desperate but want them to let them know that I would commit if they took me off that waitlist xD

I sent in both (combined into one document) post WL decision and was accepted 3 weeks later 🙂 so my
2 cents is that they don’t hurt!

I also did send a TY/LOI combo right after my interview day, so I sent them a total of two documents.

I was accepted a couple weeks ago and am wondering if anyone knows where students typically live while attending school here. I am OOS.

Interviewed here nov. 13th and they said we would hear back "mid-December." Anyone have any guesses or insight to a more specific date?

Congrats. Did they send an email or it appeared on your portal?

It'll appear on your portal and you'll also get an email. However, when I got mine, I didn't get an email to my AMCAS email address, but instead got one to my Wayne State email address (which I didn't know existed up until the point at which I got my invite).

How did you check your Wayne State email?

Go to wayne dot edu, log in at the upper right with the same credentials as for your secondary, then top left of the next page, you'll see a link for wayne connect/email. From there, click on the Mail app. Might not work if you didn't set up a Wayne email address when you were doing your secondary.

Weird I just get a message that says my account has been disabled. Interviewed a few weeks ago.

For those who were waitlisted, has anyone's status actually changed from "Med School Invite to Interview" to reflect that you were waitlisted?

For those of you who have already received IIs, how long did it take after completing your secondary? I submitted late and just want an idea on how long I should wait before giving them a call.

This wayne send out rejection emails or do they just send it all at once at the end of the cycle?

Check the other posts on here for people reporting IIs and complete date. IMO don't call them unless you've been waiting 3+ months, it just annoys the on-call admissions staff. There's still people who submitted at the beginning of the cycle who haven't heard back.

Ive been complete July 29th and still under review. I wont call them asking about my status because I once got a rejection a day after I called another school 😀 so I learned from my mistake haha

Ive been complete since early/mid august and still nada. Some reviewers may take more time than others.

For those of you that had interviews, did it take a minute for your status to change from in review to invited for interview?

Also, did it take a long time to receive a confirmation email for your interview slot?

For me at least, it was a little over 4 months. I entered in review late July and just got an II, so don't lose hope!

I got my confirmation email immediately to within minutes after selecting my time slot

I mean I got accepted and I mine still says in review. I called them about it and they said that the portal status is currently not working properly.

So my secondary has been complete since 08/16 and I have not gotten an II yet. My LM is ~70 and I am IS, should I be worried?? I actually have 0 II's is this normal?!

Same situation with a LM ~ 72, starting to lose hope honestly.

Does anyone know if Wayne is receptive to updates pre-interview? I've been complete since mid-august and have not heard anything yet. I have started a few meaningful activities, so I was hoping to update them.

they do have an area to upload updates on th e portal

I didn't think I had a lack of depth. How could I know?

Honestly, it's hard to know what they're looking for. Wayne was the last secondary I submitted and the second school I've heard back from. It's kind of shot in the dark, but the only reason I could see getting pushed ahead (other than a mix up) is that I have literally thousands of hours of patient contact with an underserved population, which Wayne seems to be big on. It's not easy by any means, but what you have to remember is that not hearing back yet is still within the realm of normal for this insane process.

Its also a matter of HOW you present you EC's. In your essays/personal statements, I think it would be best to somehow highlight these as strong points without coming off as cocky or too confident. I know that personally I do not have the strongest EC's, but I really sold what I did have and that has led to some positive news!

I do have to say that I think Wayne appreciates a down-to-earth attitude. I distinctly remember thinking it was the one secondary that for some reason I didn't try to mention all my accomplishments in (very restrained in terms of that). Mostly discussed socialization and hobbies unrelated to medicine and what I had on my primary. It's been my only successful application thus far. I wish I could go back and change the rest of them to have a similar attitude, but whatever, I am beyond grateful to Wayne and honored to attend <3

Does the MD technical standards document need to be uploaded in order to be considered for an interview? I did not fill mine out, but was under the assumption that my file is still complete even if this form is not filled out. Complete late-August and still have not heard back.

Does your status say "Med School in for Review (MR)?" I think the technical standards page is needed to be complete, but if you have that status next to the "admissions decision" tab, then you may be fine. Regardless, I'd fill it out ASAP.

It says MR and I get an email saying I was complete.
