Does anyone know how big clinical research is here? Is it something a lot of students get involved in?

I was interested in a surgical subspecialty about two years back. Went to a meeting, they brought up at least 5-6 projects IRB-approved and in-the-works. Retrospective and prospective. A quick look at those students on PubMed shows at least one publication each. I shifted interest to a different field altogether and got involved in 2 projects in 1 year, taking the lead on one, and just getting an accepted (with revisions) on another, with one more to potentially materialize in the upcoming months. I also did some non-publication stuff in the ED purely because I like ultrasound, but it was cool so I didn't mind helping.

So yes, research is performed here. The real answer to this question will vary widely among both department and mentor, as I've given you just three examples.

Ah I thought that they had the EDP interviews first, my mistake. I've heard that the interview here is fairly relaxed so it should be a pretty fun day!
Good to know! I'm interviewing here next week! I actually wanted to pick this week but couldn't get off work 🙁

Congratulations! How did you receive the good news phone, or email?

I assume you applied early decision right?

Thanks! I actually just went to the admissions office and asked this evening, but they're sending out emails tomorrow I think.

Yup, I applied early decision!

Congrats on the IIs everyone! I've been around WVU for a while now so feel free to contact me with any questions about the university, Morgantown, etc.

Accepted!! Got the good news yesterday!

I keep reading the acceptance can't believe my eyes lol. Don't worry guys I am sure you can make it.

You can ask me any questions about the process and my experience. I will be happy to help.

Good luck!

What are your stats? Are you IS or OS?

So I just got offered an interview but the earliest available time is in mid-january. Is this the earliest time for everyone or was I just placed in a lower priority group?

Got my first II today from WVU!! So excited.
MCAT 512, 3.86 GPA
Secondary Completed 9/6
Earliest interviews are in mid-January (how big of a disadvantage does this put me?)

Are you IS or OOS? Ties or nah?

Maryland resident (so sorta close by I guess)
I think for OOS it's always gonna be harder to land an acceptance here. I think how WVU does it, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, is they mainly WL their OOS and pick at the end. Atleast that's what it looked like they did last year. Very few OOS were accepted post-interview. Keep in mind, this school only takes like 20 students OOS, so they have to really blow away the adcom in order to even get an acceptance.

I actually saw that they accepted 55 IS and 55 OOS last year according to MSAR.

That's really weird. When I called the lady told me about 20% of the class consists of OOS.

Here is profile for the 2021 class, according to WVU SOM website

"
Class Size: 112

WV Residents: 59%

OOS Residents: 41%
"

Yeah I know. I just find it weird that she told me 20%, when the site says 41 and MSAR 50.

Has anyone heard of anyone ever getting off the waitlist for an earlier interview? I'm currently set to interview in January but would love to interview earlier as this is one of my top choices (maybe top choice).

My student host here told me she was scheduled for a February interview but got a call in November asking if she wanted to interview in December! 🙂

I know of one student who currently goes there. He was scheduled for interview in January, but then got a call asking if he can interview in October. The call was ONE day before

Jfc, hope he didn't have to fly from anywhere...

I can not decide if it is worth applying or not. But, from what I know, WVU usually prefers at least 125 on each subsection in the MCAT.

Anybody get a recent II before scheduled before January? I just received one but the earliest date available was January 11th. Is that just the earliest they have available or does that late date mean that I am a less competitive candidate?

That is the earliest available right now. If you got an interview, you're clearly a competitive candidate. Take pride in that!

okay good! Definitely happy about the II considering it is the first thing I heard back from any school! How are my chances hurt by having an interview later in the season compared to one earlier?

I interviewed in January instead of October (Hurricane Sandy, thanks!) and one of my co-interviewees was in my class.

Interviewed at the Morgantown campus and have to say I'm blown away. Both my interviewers were very personable/conversational, and the students informative/helpful.I definitely received the impression that it was a close knit class where the faculty wanted everyone to succeed. 🙂 While I don't regret interviewing at Martinsburg last year, I would heavily recommend any non-WVU students to interview at Morgantown. I really feel that you get a better feel for the school as you'll be spending your first two years there.

on a side note for those of you planning on taking the grey line, it took me about 2-2.5 hours (depending on lateness) to travel between pittsburgh international airport and morgantown. just something to keep in mind while booking flights.
