Hi everyone! I'm a first year here, and just want to remind everyone not to freak out if you were waitlisted! I interviewed in January, with very strong ties to the school, and was still waitlisted. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of providing updates and keeping in contact with the school. For OOS applicants who are waitlisted, you will most likely not be accepted until MAY. Remember, this whole process is a marathon, not a sprint. If you really want to go here, send updates and ask if you can get feedback on your application (though you may not be able to do this until Spring). The difference between an average applicant and one who gets accepted is who is willing to HUSTLE. Show them how much you want to go here, and that'll get their attention. Message me if you have any questions, and good luck! 🙂

Rejected before interview. 509 MCAT 3.78 sgpa 3.75 cgpa OOS no ties to the area. *shrugs* oh well

Late to the party, but +1 million to oos waitlist. Good luck to us all next year!

Okay this is bizarre. In past years thread, a vast majority of OOS got waitlisted, but not ALL OOS. So far theres been atleast 15 reported waitlists and not one acceptance. Did they change things up this year? Last year around this time there were like 5 OOS acceptances reported here.

It's still very low sample size, I think it's prob just because those of us who are on SDN THIS year happened to all be put on waitlist.

With n=~20, I think this is a large enough sample size to make a judgement. Obviously not large enough to say EVERY OOS got waitlisted, but large enough to think that maybe they're doing things differently last year. Around 20 people replied in last years thread on this date, with 5 being accepted. This year its also about 20 people, none accepted. I'm not going to bother doing the T-test, but I guarantee you there is a significant difference.

Maybe. Honestly it would make me and everyone feel much better if it is true, but at this point we are just speculating. I guess we will find out in a few months.

I second this.

Yeah, sample size is low. As I recall, they were doing 3+ interview days per week for 6 weeks prior to decision day. Each interview day has 10+ applicants, so for sure at least a few people OOS were accepted.

Would anyone be able to share their experience in the MD/MPH program or know how the process works? I haven't been able to find any information on their website.
I asked admissions several months ago about the same thing via email. The response...
"
Thank you for your email and interest in WVU SOM!
The MPH program at WVU is going through revisions and restructuring of their program. At this time, we are not offering dual acceptance into both MD and MPH programs at WVU. With that being said, if you are accepted toWVU SOM and are interested in pursuing your MPH, the school would with you and try to make that happen.
Again, we cannot guarantee anything and for the upcoming cycle we are not offering the dual degree program, but would work with you and try to find a solution after matriculation."

For admission decision after interview. Do they send you an email with status or asking you to log into portal for decision?

Have people been getting off the interview waitlist for earlier interviews?

I was accepted as an IS applicant with a 505 MCAT and a 3.94 sgpa. So excited! Good luck to everyone on the waitlist. I’ve had a few friends in previous years to be waitlisted, but they still got in. I believe around 50% of the class come from the waitlist at WVU typically.

Congratulations! Welcome to the family

Anyone wanna meet up on the Charleston campus tomorrow to prep for the interview on Wednesday?

Is there anything to do around Morgantown? My flight lands early so I basically have the entire day before my interview to explore. Any suggestions?

I would recommend renting a car so you can drive around because Morgantown is very hard to walk, like no sidewalks and everything is really hilly. I walked to the undergrad campus and I'm sure there's a ton of walking and hiking trails there too.

I walked around quite a bit after my interview, including to dinner, and remember thinking it was really neat how walkable the town was. But I’m also from an area with no sidewalks because they would only get in the way of the barbwire fences, so our perceptions may be different.

Yeah I was talking more about if he/she actually wanted to go far. Like I walked from the medical school down to the undergrad campus and that is like an hour walk with pretty much no sidewalks until you get to the downtown area.

Oh yeah they definitely might want a car for that kind of exploring! I stayed within .5 or .75 miles of the med school and football stadium

To give you the best advice, I have two questions
First, do you have a car or will you rent a car?
Second, where are you staying?

There are multiple places I would suggest depending on what area of town you are in

Maybe I'll check out the undergrad campus while im there. thanks!

Probably will not be renting a car, as I don't think I really need it aside from exploring. I'm flying into Pittsburgh, taking the Grey Line, and staying with a host. No idea where my host lives, but I can assume Morgantown has Uber right? lol

The Grey Line will drop you off at Mountaineer Station, which is about 3 minutes walk to the health sciences center. Yes, Morgantown has Uber and two local taxi companies.

Waitlisted. Out of state, interviewed October 19th.

Waitlisted OOS. Interviewed last week

This school is my number one choice - any suggestions on what to do here?

Thanks!

i think submitting updates helps with this school!

All these waitlists and I was excited to get an II so late in the cycle; time to squeeze the eyes shut and hibernate for a few months.

I was super excited for my II as well because I know they release decisions quickly and I could get accepted and know where I am going before Christmas....but with the waitlists I don't feel very hopeful that I'll get outright accepted. Fingers crossed though.

Looking forward to interviewing here on 12/01.

I will be renting a car, will I be able to make it to the PITT airport for a 6:42pm flight back home? Don't want to cut it too close.

That's what I did, you should be fine! The interview day will end depending on what times you're assigned, but I don't think they went past 3:30ish. The traffic going to Pittsburgh was really smooth, too, so it only took an hour or so to get back.

Also, there's an alternate TSA line that you can go through that's lesser known, so it takes a lot less time. I vaguely remember going up an escalator to the right (?) of the first TSA line you see, and then you cross a road and go into this big grey tunnel-like thing. The walk takes a bit, but the line is much shorter and goes way faster--even if you're already TSA-pre.

Anyone else interview on 10/26?
Fittin to BE on that OOS waitlist !
I enjoyed the interview and experience, though.

Does anyone know anything about an interview waitlist? I am scheduled to have mine in early January but I would prefer to do it as soon as possible. One of my buddies told me about it but I don't really have any other information.

All you can do is contact admissions and ask to be put on the list for an early interview. I did it in September but still stayed in my original interview spot of 10/26.

Did you call or email?

Both, but I'm neurotic. Email them and say you'd like to get on the list for an earlier interview.

Institutional tomfoolery regarding OOS applicants aside, don't be apprehensive about the school, they are, as West Virginians tend to be, incredibly helpful and kind. Pretty much the nicest of any school I've dealt with.

Whenever a decision is made and the email is sent out, does it say "Congratulations" if you get accepted, and if you are WL'd or denied it will tell you to check the portal? Anyone know?

Did this happen and you're afraid to look at the portal? Like parking tickets, not looking at them means they don't exist.

Basically!! Expecting my email this week and I am thinking I do not want to be told "Log in to portal to view decision!"

I'm not sure how much it moves to be honest. I got put on it in mid September and have not heard anything.

I got an email saying "Congratulations" however, I've heard other people saying they only get an email telling them to check the portal.
