Please post the secondary questions once you receive them. Check last year's thread in the 2017-2018 SSD forum for last year's questions, they tend to not change very much from year to year.

    Good luck to everyone applying!

Last year there were no secondaries. CASPer is required, though.

Hi everyone! Rising M3 here, happy to help answer any questions. There’s a lot of information to be had in last year’s thread that is still ongoing for the current waitlisted students.

Good luck all! NYMC is a great place to be.

Hi everyone! NYMC is one of my top choices, will a July MCAT hurt me if everything else is submitted on time?

Hi! I always had a concern about NYMC's non-P/F grading system. In your opinion do you think if it makes the environment more of a competition among the students?

I’m entering this year, so I can’t speak to the environment quite yet. The students I have spoken to tell me it is relatively laid back.

What I can tell you is that NYMC was supposed to switch to pass fail this year, but said the timeline was too short and that it couldn’t be implemented for the class of 2022. It is possible that the class of 2023 will be pass fail.

I saw that NYMC had a little conflict with funding being cut for the LGBT group at the school. Is the school overall pretty welcoming to LGBT people or is it one of those "eh I guess we will deal with it but wish we didnt have to" vibe?

Where did you see this? As far as I know the only changes to funding clubs and groups has been policy changes applied to all clubs in using their funds. I think there may be some misunderstanding about what happened in this situation.

It would be presumptuous of me to speak for LGBT students, as I have not had their experiences. However I have never heard anyone say they felt unwelcome here.

100% resoundingly no. It had no effect whatsoever on the collaborative nature of the class in either first or second year.

Your score will be the most important determining factor. July isn’t too late, but it is later than most. You should try to get everything else squared away (write primary app, pre-write some secondary apps) before the score comes out and submit when you’re ready to. That’s more a question for the general forum though, as it gets pretty complicated.

Oh I should have looked at the date of the article. Its from 2004. Im sure things have changed (since a LOT in out society has changed since then in regards to the topic)

That makes a lot more sense! There have been a LOT of administrative changes at NYMC in the 14 years since then and as you rightly point out, society has changed a lot as well.

As of now we have a very active student-run LGBT Advocacy in Medicine group that does a lot in the way of education and inclusivity, both for LGBT students and for better care of patients. I am sure that if you emailed the admissions department they could put you in touch with someone.

I was about to start working on the secondary for this school but Just saw that they didn't have any essays last year for the secondary so I can cross this off as another school "Prewritten"!

    Secondary received!

No prompts, it seems—you just have to give your cell phone number, pay the application fee, list out your letter of recs/any affiliation to NYMC, and take CASPer.

Also: the secondary email gives a link to application instructions that doesn't work. Just change the "2017-2018" on the URL to "2018-2019"!

    Good luck everybody!

Yeah, the links to instructions are bad. Here is the link off the SOM admissions website for this year: http://www.nymc.edu/media/schools-a...18-19NYMCSecondaryApplicationInstructions.pdf

Submitted! No prompts or writing, just a few things to add in like your cell number. It definitely helps to read the instructions before filling out the app. Good luck!

Hi! Current third year student here...I have seen this come up many times. I think your best bet is to contact them by email. My understanding is that it’s considered on a case-by-case basis, but I am just a nobody.

    Best of luck to you!

Received and Submitted this morning. Happy to give them my 130$ even if it's just going to land development!

I called them today since I'm in an SMP and most of my letters are from that -- just put it in the undergrad portion if that's all you have. Same goes for non-trads.

Uh, wait. I tried to click the link to the instructions both in the email and on the secondary. Both gave me a 404 not found error.

Edit: Ok, I'm dumb. I see it was linked above. Thanks!

Confused about the letters. My undergrad pre med office includes my science (x2), non-science, research PI, and MD letters in a single composite packet. All I need to do is indicate the name of the packet, and leave the following pages blank, correct?

Generally speaking the committee letter trumps all other letter requirements. I can’t see the specifics but this sounds correct.

Regarding secondary applications: everyone gets one, so if you haven’t right away then wait a week and then email them asking. To my knowledge they do not and have never screened pre-secondary.

I put the school name solely for the 3 professor letters. For the option letters, i filled out with the doctors names and put (Committee Letter) so that they know to look for it there.

Then again, what a scam/waste of money for applicants to fill out a form of info they already have from primaries

Can you tell me what their LOR requirements are if you don't have a committee packet please? MSAR doesn't list it and I can't seem to find it on their website. Also I have not received the secondary yet so I cant see them there :/

What is the consensus on the letters and courses? Like if I took multiple courses with one of the letter writers do I only put one? For the credit hours do I put the hours for that course or for all the courses I took with that professor?

The character limit for each line is pretty limited. I took two courses from each of my letter writers that were my professors, so I crammed in the course numbers for the two and the put the total hours. If you took more than two with a letter writer, it will probs be tough to list them all without it getting cut-off.
