Can anyone who has interviewed tell us about the experience? The interview schedule says 4 blocks of 30-min interview sessions. Are they all traditional 1:1? Thanks in advance 🙂 Having the interview in a week now, so feeling nervous !@#!#%$@%@$!#!$

There’s 3 traditional, partial file interviews - either 1 faculty and 2 Med students, or vice versa. One of the 30 minute blocks is a break.

anyone who has interviewed know if they allow you to store luggage (just a carryon)?

Some important news I learned during my recent interview at UIC:

As of last Thursday (I think Thursday), UIC is no-longer a true rolling admissions school. This ONLY applies to applicants interviewing on/after September 17. Instead of offering acceptances starting October 15th, they will send out a wave of decisions on December 14th/15th. Another wave of decisions will be sent in January.

Applicants who interviewed prior to September 17th can still hear back from UIC as early as October 15th

does this mean the last wave of acceptances will be in January and after that, people are II'ing for waitlist spots?

Does anyone know what UIC's post-interview acceptance rates look like? I heard that it was upwards of 70%. Just want to verify how true that is.

Also, for anyone wondering: II received 9/5, secondary complete 7/23, OOS, ORM, LM 71. Strong upward trend in GPA. Good luck to everyone else!!

Nah, there will be more waves after January. I just didn't remember which months followed, which is why I didn't mention them

At my interview, they told us that they sent out ~730 interview invites and accepted ~630 people.

Did you II this year? This UIC tell you how many IIs have been sent out at this point in the 2018-19 cycle?

Woah! I can’t tell if that’s a good thing or a bad thing lol. It’s great that the acceptance rate is that high but at the same time if ~500 people passed it up, does that mean something is wrong with the school or it’s everyone’s last choice?

I interviewed this year, and I'm guessing the data is from the previous cycle. Unfortunately, UIC did not tell me anything about the current cycle.

They also said they’d be accepting fewer people and that their post-II acceptance rate would go down. All as a result of both over-enrollment and the new AAMC rules

I thought the new enrollment meant more people would be accepted because they couldn't tell who would likely come and who wouldn't due to multiple acceptances?

I think it’s gonna lead to more people waitlisted cause they don’t know and won’t want to overaccept

when were you complete? and when did you see you were under review?
I was complete on July 31st and honestly don't remember when exactly my portal changed to under review, but know that it was under review. I didn't think much of it because most schools have listed my application as "under review" and felt this was standard. All I noticed was the email I received today at around 6:15PM (Eastern) about the interview. LizzyM 71, OOS

is anyone else unable to submit? i finished the essays but it doesn't have the checkmark on the dashboard so I cannot submit.

hi did you end up figuring out how? i filled in all the parts of the secondary but there is no submit button...🙁

edit: i figured it out...

MS1 here, don't get too excited because it's actually a normal rate when you look at it in the context. Also I don't know where you got 500 from.

That number includes GPPA (pre-matriculation pathway) students plus most schools accept anywhere from 1.5 - 2.5x the number of their class size.

My class (which is oversubscribed) has ~315 students across all three campuses so ~315 x 2 = 630.

One of the deans also stepped down because he failed to not oversubscribe the class so they will definitely try (keyword) to lower acceptances.

Hi everyone,

I was accepted here last cycle and is matriculating in the fall. Please dont hesitate to ask any questions as I will be checking up on the thread frequently.

I appreciate your help and have two questions.

1) What factors drew you to choosing University of Illinois?
2) If we get asked "Why UIC?" at an interview, is it ok to detail reasonings specific to a campus like Peoria or should we keep it broad to reasonings that can apply to all of their campuses?

Anyone here have any MMI advice? Especially pertaining to this school? Is it more ethical scenarios or a mix of these, standardized patient encounters, writing prompts, etc?

I don't think it's MMI

No MMIs, but my third interviewer (a student) asked some ethical questions. Just explain both sides and then give a convincing reason why you would choose one over the other. Pretty simple, I wouldn't worry about it

For those of you who already interviewed, how was your experience? I was surprised how laid back the whole interview was. I also had great feedback from my interviewers during our conversation such as their remarks like “you are so mature” or “you are unique.” I felt great after the interview but started to wonder if this was similar to everyone else’s experience and if this is UIC’s strategy to facilitate stress-free experience. Or.....did I have great luck on mine?

super laid back. Almost too chill (and too good) to be true...

Can someone make me feeel better about the fact that today marks 2 whole months of “forwarded to screening committee”
I waited 3 months with that status until I received my II and eventual acceptance. I know others who waited even longer.

There is a lot of cycle left friend

I've not entered the game yet!

I was verified 08/14 and received an email to create an account for my portal and it says my application is under review. Haven't received a secondary. My CASPER score was sent on 09/12 not sure if I should count from this date or the date I was verified!

II today! Complete 8/28. LizzyM 72, IS. The only date available is 10/18, and the only available campus is Rockford. Does the available campus have any indication on competiveness/which campus they are interested in putting you in? Or am I just overthinking this.

Congrats! On their website in the FAQ it says that the campus you interview at doesn't determine what campus they put you in.

when were you under review???

Idk maybe 2 weeks ago tops. Notably, though, I submitted after I took CASPER, not before, like most people.

II today. IS, complete early-mid August, LM 72-74, interviews offered at all 3 campuses next week

Anything I can do between now and when I get an admissions decision to ensure Chicago campus selection aside from doing U/I/GMED?
Only had Rockford as my option, you lucky duck.

Got a II by checking the portal....weirdly no email received yet. Options are Oct. 15th in Chicago, will probably try and schedule for a later date as I'm coming from California.

Just wondering is the II for regular MD or MSTP?

regular MD, just got their e-mail now

Best of luck with your interview but be forewarned that UIC is not a good choice for OOS students (imo) because your COA is easily over 100k per year. Obviously if it's the only place you end up getting into then you have to, but just keep the financial situation in mind if you need to make a decision. I like our school but I cringe for the OOS who attend and while they do TRY to give OOS a small scholarship to lower the cost to IS level it's limited in terms of how many students can receive it.

Got II. I am only seeing 2 days on the portal...which are very short notice (next Monday and Tuesday), both of which I have conflicts with. I called the admission office and the lady said that I will just need to wait for new dates to pop out. Anyone has experience with just waiting out newer dates to pop out? Thanks in advance

I had the same problem coming from OOS, called and was able to schedule for an Oct 29th date. I would call again and see if you can get a later date.

Oh really! That's good to know. I'll have to call them on Monday and schedule it on a later date. Also OOS too so it's not convenient to have to book a flight 2 days prior
