2018-2019 University of Michigan

Right? They were stingy with the II's today.
Maybe they're slow on reading applications? Or maybe they decided to give interviews to people they're still waiting on Casper scores for so couldn't actually release them fully (this is just me hoping cuz it would mean I might be one of them haha)

wish me luck guys! I'm IS but on the lower end of the MCAT range (3.90, 512). Heres to hoping they decide to throw an interview my way for the heck of it!

Hi all, I will be starting at UMich this fall! Feel free to PM me if you have questions about the cycle. I'll answer them if I can!
Does U of M COM screen for secondaries or do they send them to all applicants?

According to their website, they auto-send secondaries to applicants who score above the 25th percentile on the MCAT.

Or that they reviewed me and didn't want me on Monday 😛🙁

I really underestimated how nuts/stress inducing the application cycle is, and we're barely one month in!

and that's coming from the person with 4 IIs

Why is Texas one month ahead? Is the texas med school primary app due earlier? Sorry for the dumb question lol

Texas primary submission starts May 1, and its pretty reasonable to be complete at all Texas schools by late May/early June (Check out my MDapps for a sample timeline) I’m still waiting to hear from 6 schools in Texas that already started sending IIs.

Some texans are really killing it with like 7+ IIs already including AMCAS schools.

Anyone know if Umichigan extends interviews to applicants without letters? My committee letter is still in the process of being written, but my portal says that my application is complete and under review.

Any other MSTP folks not get a status change for CASPER? Does it take a few days? Also says they are waiting for my LORS but my LORS are definitely there

I'm not mstp but I actually got my status change before the 3 weeks they said. My score seemed to be received a few days early.

Same here. I thought that like no medical school reviewed before LoRs.

Where do you go to see if they have your CASPer scores? Temple sent out a final complete email to me last week when they received my scores, but nothing from here. Thanks!

My CASPer scores finally got released, hopefully I hear some news in the next couple months!

If you go on the CASPer website it says they sent your scores, but I haven't heard anything from the school itself.

Anybody have their secondary in but not LoRs that isn't complete? Trying to figure out if the complete and in review message some of us are getting is an automatic one or an authentic one.

Not worried just curious and bored lol.

If Michigan is one if your top choices, why? It would be great to hear your perspectives.

Should we expect an email when our Casper score is in? My app seems to be complete on the portal but I never got an email. just curious!

omg this notification had me thinking IIs had started coming out I had a mini heart attack lol. But anyways no there's no email, complete on the portal means complete

Hahah my bad! Also curious when we will be hearing about those today 🙂

To people with II so far: when are you guys doing the MIC if you haven't already? I am saving it for next week (after I'm done with my other secondaries) which is pretty much right at the suggested deadline they indicate (4 weeks before interview date). Also, did you approach the questions like any other secondary? I'm kind of annoyed at the questions because there will be a lot of overlap with my actual submitted secondary when I answer these lol. Also the MIC is pretty much just another entire secondary application RIP

Yeah, I am going to finish it up this weekend. It is TOTALLY another secondary in disguise (so yeah, I will approach it that way) and will take way more than the 30 minutes they mentioned!

This might be old news to y'all, but just FYI in case you didn't know, Michigan provides the real-time number of interview offers and admissions offers that have been released thus far in the cycle! It's on the MD Admissions home page (my acc is too new so I can't link it) I really appreciate their effort to be transparent in their entire admissions process

Does anyone have any insight on how UMMS views UM-Dearborn students?

For example is a 3.8 from UM-Dearborn viewed the same as a 3.8 from UM, granted all else is equal.

Seems like UM is more stingy with interviews this year
I think most schools will be, given the change in AMCAs traffic rules.

On that note...tomorrow is UMich Med Monday! Hoping for some good news (but not actually expecting any since most schools haven't sent out any MSTP IIs yet...maybe this week will be the week). Fingers crossed for everybody!

Why do you think that will be the case? Wouldn't it make sense to offer them early, in order to fill up the class as early as possible so that they can avoid losing people on the waitlist to another school?

Wait sorry could you expand on why they might be more stingy? Traffic rules?

Because, starting this year, schools will not be able to see the list of other schools you've been accepted at in the way they've been able to do in the past. When they had access to that list, they had an extra (pretty significant) piece of information to decide whether or not you are likely to go there if accepted. While this isn't directly related to interview invites, I wouldn't be surprised if schools were more conservative in giving them out -- at least for schools that have rolling admissions -- since in general they will have to adjust to this new system. The more I think about it, the less I think it will have as big an impact on interviews as I originally thought...but, at the same time, I feel like these types of changes always make the system go more slowly/carefully.

Anyone know how important Casper is here? I feel like it won't matter too much since it's still new but I also can't help but feel like I did poorly on it due to my slow typing leaving some answers incomplete.
