My dream school! Fingers crossed..Good luck everyone!

Best of Luck everyone 🙂 I'll be an M-1 here PM me if you have any questions. The M2s probably have more answers but I can try my best! Some summer reading for you all would be to read the book "the Healing of America" by T.R. Reid. I really enjoyed this book and it was recommended by one of my MU interviewers on my first cycle and then I was accepted my second cycle. I look forward to meeting the interviewees this cycle!

Is there anything about the ongoing racial issues on the main campus that seem to affect the medical school? Adding to that, anything from the recent academic probation and license review that I should consider before committing there?

I will ask my student ambassador about the racial issues, but to my understanding the MUSOM despite its proximity to the campus remains particularly separate as far as main campus affairs vs. Med school affairs. I will get back to you when I have a better answer on that one.

As for academic probation if you are talking about the probation due to diversity and inclusion I do not think this will be an issue. I am currently taking their diversity and inclusion training and it is apparent that they are making a strong effort to address this. Furthermore, my class seems quite diverse judging by superficial appearances and I am sure it will become much more diverse once I meet the people in person. I can ask the M2 about this as well.

My student ambassadors said almost exactly what I had and said that the med campus isn’t affected by the affairs on the main campus. He also said that the school has been re accredited so nothing to worry about on that front. As for choosing where to commit it is a matter of more than just the diversity you have to take into account the step scores, the curriculum, the town, etc. I am sure you know this though 🙂

I was expecting a flood of secondaries today but I got none. Hmmm.

+1

With not real ties, is it even worth the time to fill this out as an OOS applicant?
I'll go against the grain and say no. There's a set limit of how many OOS people they take and they mentioned that over 80% of those that are accepted have significant ties to the state/school

Well IMO it all comes down to stats. If you're stats are well above their median (preferably above 90th percentile) they may try to "hook" you with a scholarship. If your stats are average probably don't bother

Ya I guess that's true too. I'm curious to see what they value more- stats or ties. They've supposedly rejected several very high stat OOS people before too

I have FAP, and as a Texas applicant, this is like my 15th secondary, so it’s basically a copy and paste for most of the questions at this point.

I’m average when it comes to stats, but I literally have nothing to lose except 10 mins.

Thanks for the input y’all!

I am a little nervous to ask this question. I am currently from out of state. I just submitted my OOS with strong familial ties to the state through my aunt who has lived in the state of Missouri for more than 50 years. Although I have visited her a couple of times throughout my childhood, spending summers with her, I am not to sure if that is a strong enough connection, can anyone offer some advice on this?

It's hard to say since the definition of 'connection' depends on the school. A lot of schools limit it to parents, siblings, grandparents. I would call and ask them

They historically send them out late. I wouldnt expect one until late July early August

Secondary received, although it won't let me sign into the link they sent out. IS applicant.

Emailed them and they corrected their systems. The questions are the same as last year, but here they are again:

Please describe any element within your candidacy not fully addressed on the AMCAS application that you want the Admissions Committee to consider. Please include information regarding how you heard about our school, and any factors(programs, people, mission, geography etc.) that led you to apply. (2000 characters)

Diversity Essay
Please discuss (e.g. using specific personal traits, education, life experiences, etc.)
1.) how you will add to the overall diversity of the medical school and the practice of medicine AND
2.) how you will contribute to an inclusive learning environment at the medical school and the practice of medicine.

Reapplicant only:
In the space provided below, please provide the Admissions Committee with a brief application history (including when you first applied and the number of application attempts). Please describe in detail the ways in which this application is superior to your previous application(s).

Which of their emails did you contact them through? I’m actually kinda worried. I submitted my primary as early as possible and was hoping they’d send all IS out at the same time.

I have plenty of friends who haven't received the secondary yet, so I wouldn't worry to much.

Does anyone know if they will let you know if they received your OSS or should you call them? I sent it to them on Monday, and I have not heard back. I have been thinking about calling them on this Monday, but the paper said do not call them they will let you now when they got it.

Has anyone else experienced issues getting their photo to upload? For some reason my photo won't

Did anyone figure out a way for their essays to upload as more than one paragraph? It's saving with breaks between my paragraphs but then when I go to print preview it's just a big, sad blob of text

No, I had the same issue and I think it is the formatting on their end?

Does anyone know when they start sending secondaries to OSS students? I sent back my OSS, but I wanted to know when they start sending the other secondary.

I'm IS and still haven't received it. I have been receiving secondaries pretty randomly (before/after others here on SDN) so I think it means nothing.

Does MU not do a fee waiver for their secondary application? I am approved for AMCAS FAP and haven't had any school so far just not do any sort of discount. Anybody else have this issue?

Update: I called this morning and Anita told me to print off a confirmation that I have received the AMCAS FAP and mail it in with my application.

Did you call the office and talk to them about this? Maybe they have to apply it to your account

Not yet. I wanted to check here first in case I somehow missed it somewhere online or in the secondary.
