So the secondary says not to disclose grades and MCAT scores in any responses. I'm a reapp and improved my MCAT score by a lot after being waitlisted two cycles ago. In the how has your app changed question, do you think I can say I substantially improved my MCAT without disclosing specifics, or should I just not mention it whatsoever?

I would just say you retook it. They can see both of your scores so they can already see you improved.

I think you could definitely say you improved it

I didn’t see the part about not disclosing grades, do they mean specific letter grades? Part of my adversity essay was struggling in one of my classes..

So I see where it says not to disclose grades in the secondary. But is it okay to use modifiers like "high" or "low?" I'm using the challenges essay to discuss bringing up a low GPA after dealing with depression, but that would be very hard to do if Ad Com takes a hardline stance on not disclosing anything about your GPA. Thoughts?

Hi all! Is anyone who submitted last week still sitting on 'Waiting on Materials'?
I submitted on July 5th and have been on that status since then; other schools I submitted secondaries to during that time have received my LOR and I am not submitting extra MCAT scores. Thanks! 🙂

Submitted same day. Says to allow 2 days for receipt of items. So with the 4th and weekend close together, I bet our 2 days started today. Hopefully tomorrow’s our day!

Yeah...submitted on the 4th as well and haven't heard back yet.

For this question:
2. What obstacles or challenges have you experienced and how have you dealt with them? (400 words)

Should I explain how I was a second time applicant and the challenge I felt from applying a second time by improving my MCAT and other ECs? Or should I steer away from focusing on the negative?

I personally would focus on non-academic obstacles but with 400 words you could likely talk about your experiences re: reapplying as well as something else. Just my 0.02

I think if this has made you grow and you’re able to apply that to other aspects of your life it would definitely be ok to talk about it. Just make sure not to mention any specific grades or scores. And don’t make excuses for it. I think personal struggles/obstacles can take many forms, it doesn’t have to be you rising from the ashes of poverty or anything of the likes. I’m a reapplicant and I used the obstacle essay to talk about how that experience has allowed me to have adventures in other life endeavors and while it was disappointing, I got to use those 2-3 years to grow as a person. While it’s framed around an academic obstacle, it’s been a big part of my life and shaping me today. Hope that long-winded answer was helpful, lol.

This is KEY...
Never did, never will. So, I will admit my mistakes and explain what I did to better my application and what I learned during reapplying.
Last year, I explained how I dealt with racism during my childhood years, but I think reapplying part is a better.

I have literally completed every single essay for this secondary except for one: the creativity one. I've been stuck on this for a few days now and just can't figure out what I want to talk about specifically.

Do you enjoy cooking? Have any cool collections? Into exercise? Personalized your own work out? I think it’s just a chance for us to show we’re more than a LizzyM score.

Did anyone have issues making the payment for the secondary? No matter what card I use (they should all be fine), I keep getting an error message.

"Applications are not reviewed in any particular order, and if you are selected for interview you will be contacted by phone or email to schedule."

does this mean that submitting early doesn't help?

The earlier you apply, the less applicants there are to compare you against! I would always suggest submitting ASAP!

As I mentioned above: We get the applications in big downloads (hundreds at a time) and they are not necessarily in the order they were sent to AMCAS. Secondaries come back at different times. We distribute them among the reviewers and some will get them back soon, others take their time. Institutional actions need reviewing, something is missing, etc so that mixes the order they get reviewed. An application submitted in July will be reviewed before the one in September, but they one submitted July 1st and Aug 1st, not so much.

Do you track secondary response times? I know in the past Wake Forest used to have specific secondary response deadlines (I believe it was 2 weeks?)

Do you anticipate a date when the first interview invites will be sent out?

@Pathdocmd this is the wrong place to ask but do pathologist actually do research in the development of assays (vague I know) that are valid/specific for certain diseases.

Application Complete Email Today. Submitted Secondary 7/5. Now to "patiently" wait.

If I don't have anything connecting me to WFSM or NC should I still complete the second question on the optional side? I want to get to WFSM because I love the school's mission and their program and I want to stay on the east coast near family but it really doesn't have anything to do with a connection to the school so... I am conflicted, should I write a 'based on my research... why WFSM essay?'

The vast majority of interviewed applicants don't have any connections. For some, the interview is the first time they have been to NC or the South. If you have a connection, put it down, if not, don't worry about it.

Hi everyone! I need your input. Should I bother sending my secondary if I have low MCAT (503) but my GPA is just at their range (3.66)? I have 2 years of research (1 publication) and about 400 hours of community service. Looking at MSAR, it looks like their MCAT section cutoff is at 125.. I have 122 in CARS. =(
can't get in if you don't try !

Did anyone say yes to the economically disadvantaged question, but did not indicate that on AMCAS? Per AMCAS, I did not consider myself disadvantaged because I did not grow up in a rural area with not enough healthcare, education, etc. But for this secondary, my family's current income meets the poverty guideline.

@Pathdocmd if my S.O. is an important part of my medical school decision and he has many family and educational ties to NC is this appropriate to mention? I know that it would definitely play a role in my decision

I think so. I am 100% mentioning that my SO is employed with a local hospital near my top choice school, and that she is dead set on attending their school of veterinary medicine. Her education is just as important as mine.

Question for you though. I feel like using the phrase "significant other" is a lot less subject to scrutiny than "girlfriend." I just don't want some old white guy saying "oh, girlfriend of five years? psh." Throws away application. Are you doing the same?

Wow are we living parallel lives? My S.O. is also applying to vet school and I also value his education and mine equally. We put a lot of work into coordinating our school lists. To answer your question, I am using significant other as well for the same reasons, because boyfriend just sounds a bit immature even though it's really the only title you can give it besides S.O... I feel your struggle!

Awesome! I get the school list struggle. My stats aren't near good enough for places like Cornell or Tufts, so we're banking on Minnesota TC, hopefully, or a Philadelphia school.

@Pathdocmd would you say the school/city lean more conservatively or liberally in any way? The school looks to be very LGBTQ+ friendly (especially the hospital) but dont know anything about the environment of the city as a whole. Thanks for the input!

Really struggling with the creativity prompt. I once used a “mind trick” to help a youth league baseball team I was coaching understand that when you believe in yourself you can accomplish more. It involved a short activity where the players blindly proved that believing in yourself actually helps you accomplish more. Do you think this would be creativity like they are asking?

It is split. The city itself is fairly moderate/ liberal, but more conservative in the more rural areas. The neighborhood that I use to live in, which is adjacent to the hospital, went to Sanders and Cruz in the primaries and then Clinton. I don't know if this answers the question, but I'm not sure what other data to use.

The last two presidential elections were as follows for Forsyth County:

H. Clinton 53.6% 92,488
D. Trump 43.4% 74,793
G. Johnson 3.0% 5,228

B. Obama 53.2% 91,606
M. Romney 45.9% 79,177
G. Johnson 0.9% 1,549

I don't wanna say what it is, but I feel like my response to the interesting fact question is so funny that I have to get an interview just based on that.

Now you have to share it or give us a hint
