2019-2020 Central Michigan

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Signing out for the CMU forums everyone, as I’m now out of state and a resident I won’t be the best person to answer CMED related questions any longer.

best of luck to those on the waitlist, I hope you hear good news soon!!

:hello:
Thanks for all your help!

Could anyone offer advice regarding living arrangements in Mount Pleasant for someone who wants to live alone?
cmich alum here.
Westpoint Village or Bravado! There is other housing options that are less quiet and maybe like two minutes closer to the med building. I plan on having a car, so this doesn't really matter to me. Just waitin on that waitlist....lol

Sweet, thanks so much! I'll have a car also so that isn't an issue.

Good luck, I hope you hear something soon!

Interviewed 2/21, no word since. Emailed admissions this morning for an update and received the following response:
"Applicants can have one of three different decisions at this point in the cycle (Offer, Waitlist or Reject). If you do not have one of these decisions, your application is still under consideration by our admissions committee. Just a reminder that if this new decision is a waitlist, this could still mean that your application would be active with us as late as July 1. I know the Admissions Committee is working hard to get all of our applicants a decision. I would anticipate decisions coming soon."

@ anyone who was recently accepted: i was accepted off the waitlist on 4/29, but the choose your medical school tool still isn’t available on my AMCAS... is it available for anyone that’s been accepted in this time frame???

ps: very excited to meet you all!!!

I was accepted May 1 and it still hasn't appeared for me either

Admitted students:
Can someone send me the instructions on placing an order for a white coat? Update on white coat ceremony?
We haven't gotten information yet on placing a white coat order, however the white coat ceremony is delayed until later in the fall.

I am confused.
I didn't get intial decision yet.
I don't know what's going on.
Is it normal?

To be honest, it's not just this school. There seems to be a back-log on waitlists in many schools MD and DO. Things are just moving very slowly and the uncertainty among students and school faculty seems to be the reason. Some students are holding onto one acceptance waiting to hear back from their first choice (like me). If you factor in the hundreds of students around the country doing this, then just imagine the backlog this is causing for everyone who is currently on a waitlist. I must admit, this application cycle is the epitome of a black swan event. On the different forums I've been part of, I've seen concern affecting several students who are on a waitlist that has only "trickle worthy" movement. For now, know you're not alone in the wait but also make sure you have a good back-up plan. Saying goes; "Expect the best but plan for the worst". This way, you never stopped toward your journey to medicine, you just took a different route. I'm still waiting on the CMU waitlist with y'all, so we're in this together. It's not a rejection, until there's a rejection. Stay positive, wishing you all the best!

Thanks!!!
But, I am not Waitlisted at CMU, I didn't get initial decision at all. The time is for Waitlist movement, but I didn't get any decision.

I mean, I kinda know it is R, but why they are this late to send an email about their decision.
It very important to know the decision so we/I can plan what to do next.

Thanks!!!

Have you tried reaching out to them at all? I know others in similar positions have emailed them.

Nobody on the waitlist has heard anything yet, right? I need some movement in my life.

+1... I am sitting here every day hoping to wake up to a nice email from admissions! I’m wondering if the pandemic is causing WL movement to be slower this year? At least that is what I am telling myself so that I don’t lose all hope! I’m right there with you, bud!

I'm thinking we'll hear something after the 28th or at least something next week because the governor just made it okay for groups of 10 or less to gather with social distancing. The adcom may want to meet in person to talk so I'm definitely chalking this slowness up to the coronavirus.

I sure hope it IS like that. I sent them my final update letter and letter of interest, i loved the school and its environment. I just wanna be a doctor and settle in. Let's hope we get some movement next week. Hopefully someone calls and sees what's going on by then and what's the game-plan there.

Do you guys know if the wl is ranked?

Do you guys know if the wl is ranked?
They say it isn't ranked so what I think they're doing when someone declines an offer is replacing that person with someone on the waitlist who is most similar in terms of numbers and demographics. It seems to me they have a full waitlist at this point so I don't understand why they are keeping so many other applicants in the dark. Hoping we hear news soon.

Hi, I got accepted in late April, but CMU still doesn't pop up on my CYMS tool. Is anyone else having this issue? CMU admissions said it was fine when I emailed in late April, but thinking about reaching out since it's been about a month now...

May 1 A and it's not there for me yet either which is wild because it was there same-day for another school

late April for me too and it’s also still not there for me either, I’m thinking it’s a combination of the regular delay + pandemic + the fact that the cycle for next year opened around the same time of acceptance

Hey quick question, for those accepted, did you do the Casper for this school? I know it says it’s optional. Not sure if it’s beneficial. Thanks!

Did anyone here do EDP/early assurance program? Just had some questions about it, thanks

The most frustrating part about waiting at this point is not being able to ask for feedback about improving my application moving forward. Makes it hard to be a proactive waiter.

Hi I have a question for this school i saw the CTE date for this school is 4/30 so how come can people still withdraw acceptance in May? also if everyone has CTEed back then, why is there barely any waitlist movement afterward I thought the school can see the exact number of students who commit
