2019-2020 Loyola

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I sent an ITA, was told to wait, but received a II about 10 days later and one of the staff mentioned they had seen my ITA. And I would find it hard to believe there was no correlation.

wow okay congrats!! that encourages me at least to try, its for the end of january so maybe far enough in advance... did you upload to portal or email them directly?

Does Stritch use Step/step-style questions for their exams?
The curriculum is not NBME based if that’s your question. Almost every medical school uses step style questions for their exams. Certain schools use NBME style where it is legit like step practice/ old questions. Loyola does not do that.

I sent an ITA and never received a II
Correct by no means will it guarantee anything, I am just saying that on my interview day it was mentioned to me in a way that made it seem like the email helped get me on their radar. ITAs only work if you’re going to already get a II. I am saying if anything it got me an earlier II.

What do I write in the letter of interest? Any tips?
Also you said you emailed them? What was the email?
Hahaha there are some great resources on sdn just google how to write letter of interest. And the email is on the website and probably the email that has emailed you. Love you all but I can only hold your hands so much hehe 😉

There’s really no magic formula.

Hey Loyola,
Just wanted to reiterate that y’all are a fantastic school in a beautiful areas and one of my top chcoices blah blah blah because of x y z experiences, I am especially drawn to your program, specially x y z. Clearly, we’re meant for each other. Please email me w any questions or if you need some additional stuff from ya boi.

Sincerely,
Applicant

Do you guys know if they pull people who interviewed in the Fall off CC during the new year? It kind of looks like people who interviewed Aug, Sept, Oct are pulled off In December, and the rest are waitlisted near the end of the cycle.

It doesn't look like they did many at all based on past posts, but of course, there's probably some selection bias too.

Curious your thoughts on this: I won an essay contest/scholarship related to a major healthcare topic. Is this enough to send an update about? I'm pretty proud of the essay and could attach it to the update letter. Thoughts?
I would! Loyola LOVES updates and correspondence, and this sounds super effing cool.

Do it

I think that's it. I'm in the same boat; just the VA application left. Maybe focus on getting the required immunizations so you're not rushing to complete them next year.

Have you completed the Certiphi background check yet? I completed it months ago, but I'm not sure if I have to manually send it to schools or if it's automatically sent to them.
Hey, just curious, did you also fill out the pre matriculation registration form yet? Just wondering because it asks for a local address and I'm not from Chicago so I won't have a local address to put down until much closer to when classes begin

Yes I did! I just put my current address; I think the admissions people will understand if they see it, and I figured they’d just ask me to change it if needed.

So I'm obviously trying not to be too impatient, but I am a bit worried about my odds given how long it's been since I heard from them. I received the email from admissions on 9/4/19 that my file was complete and I was under review. I have checked my portal (and email/spam) pretty much weekly to see if my status has changed, and as of today, it is still the same. Is this normal? It's going on 4 months with absolutely no communication or change in status and I obviously I do not want to pester them with an email or phone call. Anyone been in this situation or have an opinion on how likely I will get an II? I'm a re-applicant as I applied last cycle and have improved my stats.

to be quite honest with you no one knows. Which is probably the most frustrating part of this process.

*sigh* well, I'll just hope for the best...I guess all you can really do at this point. Trying to stay positive... I just started to get more concerned lately b/c a friend of mine legit got ghosted by like 3 schools she applied to and literally never heard back from them. Got nothing. She ended up getting in somewhere else and it's a non-issue now of course, but we pay between $50.00-$100.00 per secondary app and work hard on the essays so the least they can do is get back to us even if it is the day before class starts. But nothing? psh money doesn't grow on trees. Hoping this doesn't happen to me, especially since they are a top pick of mine

I feel you applied this year and last year to about 40 schools both years. Only have 1 interview to show for it. Kinda sucks but nothing can be done. Just gotta play the game like the rest of the others :/

Mine was a little four months before I got my II. Not saying that you will or you won’t, but just saying affirming that you really don’t know and just have to sit tight. If it comes, it comes. Try not to think too much about it 🙂

thanks! that does make me feel a bit better!

Happy holidays everyone 🙂 To those who have been admitted, congratulations! To those who haven't, I attended most of my interviews in Jan-March, including Loyola's. Now is a great time to send along any updates you have (if you have any). Recently finished my first semester here at Loyola - I have loved it! Let me know if you have any questions for me about Loyola, the med school process in general, or anything else. Enjoy some time off with family and friends - it is much-needed after this hectic application process.

This was a while ago and I don't know if anyone else has asked yet but this is so cool and would you be willing to share it with us? (as long as it has already been made public and everything)

Is anyone having trouble accessing the portal? No matter what web browser I check, it says my my connection is not safe/security issue ahead?

I experienced the same issue too - you can override the warning by hitting (Advanced --> Proceed to xyz.com ) in Chrome. Must be some problem on their end, but after doing that I was able to log in.

For those of you who have submitted letters of interests/updates — did you just submit through the portal? Has anybody received an II after submitting one?

I submitted through the portal and via email. I don't think there is any benefit to emailing it in, as I received a generic response noting that I should submit all updates via the portal. I submitted my update on December 6 and have yet to hear any good news. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Tell them if you want them 🙂

Yeah, submit it thru the portal. No, still radio silent, and I submitted mine a couple of months ago

A portion of people were initially placed on hold as well.
Sorry let me rephrase-- You will remain under review until you receive the next status which is either Hold or II. I don't think they have done any pre-II rejections but maybe they did in the beginning.

Does anyone know how many seats left at Loyola? I heard that most of II of Loyola came out before Thanksgiving. They probably do not have too many spots left...
