2019-2020 Michigan

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
After seeing the 2019 class profile infographic that says 100% of class had leadership experience (66% with 5+ leadership experiences) I kind of feel like I should just assume I got an R right now. I don't have any leadership experience, or any pubs/long term research experience for that matter.

Feels bad man, UofM was my top choice. I hadn't realized they had such a focus on leadership experience and was assuming I would be a good fit.

@Gilakend was 2019 an unusual year? Or is it really just nearly impossible to get in without leadership experience?

I agree with @xkcd6330 I think "leadership" is loosely defined. I have no insight for you in terms of hard statistics, however, I find it hard to believe that 66% of people listed 5/15 activities as "leadership". I only had 1 defined leadership role (exec role in a club).

They usually focus on leadership from what I can tell (hint: "The leaders and best"), so I'm assuming they counted any role where someone was in charge of something remarkable (i.e. a research project or something similar) as leadership.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the portal to update after Casper scores are sent?

Are you guys also receiving a lot of emails from UMich?
A part from the secondary email, I received one (advertising the school) while my AMCAS was being verified and today another one.

No I haven’t. Aka they don’t want me

What are your stats? My MCAT is not even that high, 515, which I think may even be below their median?
It's really the only school that has emailed me thrice so far.

If I’ll be verified ~ August 23rd, should I bother applying to Umich or would it be difficult to get an interview if I’m complete Labor Day ish ?
You will be good. They offer between 10-30 interviews every Monday. By the time you are complete, they will still have around 2/3 of their interview dates available.

Does the Labor Day rule still apply? I still have a few secondaries that’ll be going in first week of August and am wondering if I’m hurting myself

Labor day is not a rule it is a guideline. Do not worry about the latest you can submit something, simply submit as early as you can. But do not submit an unfinished product.

I am trying to update my application right now with a document. I can't seem to find the upload documents option under the supposingly "View Checklist" option. Is this only available after I submit my secondary application?

Yes only after you submit

Has anyone else had the problem of their CASPer taking forever (2 weeks) to upload to their portal (after being sent)?

I’m assuming if it says your complete in the checklist then they have your Casper and all required doc. Can someone verify this?

I got a II today for the MSTP program!! But accidentally posted in the wrong school thread earlier. I was complete 7/12

Congratulations. Their tweet today says they don't count them in their Monday totals and also don't specifically do them on Mondays.

23 interview invitations out today to candidates from 19 undergrads and 14 states. Please note that our MSTP (MD/PhD) interviews are offered intermittently so are not included in #UMichMedMondays

Mr. Elmo I assume your likes are a sign of “yes you are right, now stop being neurotic”?

It says your app is complete etc but “we are still waiting for your CASPer score” specifically for me

I had entered my AMCAS ID wrong on CASPer :dead:. The office was nice enough to send CASPer a message for me though cause apparently CASPer has no phone number you can call.

So on my AMCAS I opted to received emails + ads from med schools, but have you guys also received a lot of emails from them?
I have not yet submitted the secondary... was hit with the 4th (apply to our school!) type of email from them today.

I wish I were blessed with any communication from Michigan.

Does anyone know if the dinner the night before the interview day is mandatory? Or if it’s worth it to go?

Also on Casper it’s called University of Michigan medical school. Just want to make sure

Like I said last week, most interviews will be handed out in late August, early September. They still have 400+ interviews to calm down. It is important to remember that

I wonder if other medical schools release at the same rate, adjusted for yield.

We know Case Western interviewed like...1200 people out of their pool

At the rate of 25 people per 7 days, it would take 48 CaseWestern Wednesdays to send all of their invitations, which is way too many. So a school like Case likely sends more than 25 a week. If we switch to percentages (which we could from the AAMC stats) I'd bet its pretty similar across most schools, adjusting for their interview seasons.

I meant adjusting for amount of people they interview overall.

Michigan does not interview that many people. It is more like 500?
