2019-2020 Michigan

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Going from memory, week before was ~155?

Holy Crap. Counting the interviews in this manner is insanely neurotic.

Bottom line is you either get an interview or you don't get an interview.

Counting a number on their website doesn't solve anything. They have a maximum number of interviews and there is no point analyzing an arbitrary number on their website.

Especially when umich literally counts for you and posts it on their twitter lol

It’s like watching a gas gage hoping you are not going to run out before it gets to the bottom.

Is your daughter still waiting on Michigan? It would be odd since they start with the highest LizzyM scores.
Yup still waiting.
I hadn’t read here that they start with high LM scores? Never got Complete email, but portal has long shown Complete.
(Submitted secondary mid July, but CASPer reported very end July.) It seems like app maybe passed over (unreported hold) since IIs have been sent to more recent submissions.

They dont have time to read every application and don't wait for (hence wont read recommendations) when they are sending out IIs. The only basis they have to go by is GPA and MCAT and now they insist on CASPer too.

CASPer score is not used at all for II or even acceptance at Michigan, the only thing they want is it completed
They said they needed a CASPer score in order to issue IIs this year. Please check their announcement when they issued the first IIs this year. Whether they used it or not in determining a II no one knows.

Based on this, then hopefully next Monday... LM is quite high.

Michigan Monday has been good to me!!! II a couple of minutes ago.
However, they only gave me two dates in october, but I am doing a fellowship outside of the country. Are they receptive to giving me more options? I will be back in the states for two weeks in November.
In case anyone was wondering the office was extremely helpful and receptive to my request for a later interview date! Can be done over email or calling.

For people who received II yesterday, when were you complete? Alternatively, if you’ve gotten a II in general how many weeks had you been complete?
Submitted 7/20 but LOR came in 8/16. but i know mich is one that sometimes sends IIs before getting the LOR

Dude your pretty invested in this process for a parent

It’s ok guys. Nothing we say will change the fact that he will stay on this forum. It’s weird and raises some questions about the sociability of their kid but just move on.

Agreed. It just bothers me and makes me question whether it’s the parent or child who actually wants to attend medical school in the first place.

Or maybe the "parent" is the child. That could also be a possibility xD

@proudofmykids

So I got an interview from Michigan last Monday. Complete 6/28, secondary complete mid-July and CASPer reported about a week after. LizzyM ~71. You get a pretty clear picture about this if you go and read their website, but Michigan is not just looking for sky-high stats when they decide to invite ppl for interviews. They really do look at the whole app. I get that you're concerned for your kid and all, but obsessively following schools like this on SDN (especially when you're kind of implying that you think your kids' stats entitle him/her to an interview) isn't just strange, it's illogical. II's are going to roll in at their own time and your constant posting here isn't going to change anything.

P.S. Also, I just want to note that, you say that you're only here to calm nerves and facilitate discussion, but reading just a couple of your posts unnerved me, so I don't really see how it could be doing you any favors.

Attempting to update this school — nothing shows up in my checklist even after I upload my PDF. Did anyone else have this issue?

Has anyone gotten a rejection? I was complete first week of July and I'm literally dying over here.

I think they've only sent R's to MSTP applicants so far, haven't heard anything from MD.

Have any in-state applicants received interviews from U of M?

More the majority of schools this is wholly inaccurate. Particularly so for a school with a 74% yield - not many IIs to go around.

Do interviews here usually go out at the same time on Mondays or dispersed throughout the day?

So on my AMCAS I opted to received emails + ads from med schools, but have you guys also received a lot of emails from them?
I have not yet submitted the secondary... was hit with the 4th (apply to our school!) type of email from them today.

Also.. I guess this wasn’t all for nothing after all... LOL
Plus additional emails post secondary submission was sometimes torture. Seeing the email header... then noticing... yet again, another advertisement

Is Ann Arbor worth exploring for more than a day? Not sure if I should book the trip for an extra day or so around my interview

Based on what my friends have told me, it's a super cute college town. I don't think it's like Boston or LA or anything.

What do you mean.
I would think Boston and LA have two totally different vibes.
So should I just do the 1-2 day thing and head back home?

i meant that I would book extra time in Boston/LA (well, I'm from LA, so SF or something for me) to explore. I don't think that's necessary for Ann Arbor. I think the 1-2 day thing should be fine. It's a college town.

Who DOESNT love food? But Im also trying to be (somewhat) cost conscious... Unless they have $20/night airbnbs... haha
It is small enough that I think if you could squeeze in some extra time to walk around downtown or Kerrytown from the med school you could get a feel for the vibes. Probably don't need an extra day if watching your costs.
