Maybe I'm beating a dead horse here but I'm still concerned about not receiving the body fat percentage paperwork a couple people received last week. People have been saying they received an email from Dr. Green to complete a DA Form 5500 (for height and weight). To clarify, I'm on the primary waitlist and I have been medically qualified through DoDMERB (I can download the PDF saying so) but haven't received any additional info on submitting my height/weight. I just really want to make sure I'm not missing anything. It would be a shame to mess up the last step of the application process after such a long cycle. Here are a couple thoughts/questions while I wait to hear back from the commissioning coordinator...

1. Could this be a branch specific thing (like army and air force have you do this paperwork but not navy)?
2. I thought this information was recorded during the original DoDMERB physical?
3. Is this a sign of waitlist movement (maybe people who received this email are projected to come off the waitlist sooner than others)?
4. Is this something we need to organize and submit by ourselves? If so, do I go back to the same place I got my physical at?

Thanks in advance for any responses...

I believe this information was just sent to those of us who were marked high BMI. I was cleared by DoDMERB, but received this paperwork because I was "out of standard". If you weren't out of standard, chances are that you have nothing to worry about!

You're fine. Not everyone has to do it. If you are qualified in DoDMerb and you're comfortably within standards, you won't have to do it.

Just got medically qualified, so I think I’m good to go on the waitlist! I just wanna make sure that if anything were missing (e.g. SF-86) they would email us? I didn’t get an email about the remedials that were required until I saw it in my dodmerb account. I’m a bit paranoid that I may be missing something and not be aware of it.

One thing to know about the military is you have to be very proactive with your own career. Don’t hesitate to reach out to the commissioning coordinator to make sure you’re good.

That is exactly right. All DodMerb correspondence is done via website portal. You should check it frequently if you are waiting for qualification. Once cleared by DodMerb, it will show your status on DodMets portal.

I’ve tried calling them but it’s saying the number is out of service. Anyone else having this issue?

The other option would be to contact the security coordinator directly. They are very nice there. If your DoDMerb is good to go, that's the only other thing that would hold you up really.

Does USUHS ever release a match list and/or details of what GMO billets their grads are pursuing?

The info is available, but I think you need a .mil account to see it. Unfortunately, it's even less useful than a civilian school match list because there are just so many things that go into it, and it's really impossible to know what any of it means.

Hey guys! Still on the primary waitlist. Quick question about acceptances; does it go WL->conditional A->unconditional A or just WL->unconditional A?

I would think it’s WL —> unconditional acceptance since they want us to be fully physically qualified before we can be accepted off the WL

Just trying to rationalize the BF% email timing and all that haha, it’s probably just alphabetical order/ random for all I know. The wait is killing me [emoji52]

Same here! I called the commissioning coordinator this morning but the lady answering told me that she thinks one of the coordinators didn’t set up call forwarding so she wasn’t sure when we would hear back

Honestly the wait is killing me too. Almost feel like I can't move on with my life or can't establish direction. I have civilian acceptances but if I don't get off this waitlist, I'm going to the Marine Corps as an infantry officer before reapplying because I want to serve and be immersed in the culture. Just looking for any WL movement at this point, just to see that it is moving at all. Feel like I've got my ass clenched waiting for this phone call.

Do you have the option to do HSPS scholarship if you went civilian?

Not sure if I saw this in this forum or a preview year’s one, but someone said not to expect to hear anything until end of April/early May. That kinda helped me relax a bit but I feel you. This is my top choice and every time my phone rings I jump up and check the area code lol

I wouldn’t read into it too much. I was in the same place last year, fully qualified on DODMERB but overweight for my height. Got the email from the coordinator telling me I needed a body fat comp done by mid March. All this will I was on hold. It’s just without the paperwork you don’t meet commissioning standards. After mid March’ish timeframe they will pass you up and go to the next person on the list when a spot opens. Where we are on the list doesn’t matter so much, they want everyone complete because they have to send paperwork up to the service secretaries who actually sign off on you being commissioned, called scrolling. That can take several months, so they get it taken care of for everyone, even those that don’t get the call. Not being signed off by the secretary by a certain date won’t affect getting the call. Hope that makes sense.

Last year all three branches went into their secondary waitlist.

I have the option but I simply wouldn't do it. I'm not interested in being in the military "part time" and I'm not concerned about the commitment. I made that clear to them during my interview that HPSP doesn't interest me.

I’m just worried bc I believe I am overweight for my height according to one of USUHS sources but I haven’t heard anything about and don’t wanna be bypassed bc I never knew to do the BF% info

If you’re not currently active duty, you have to meet the Army’s standard. Even if Army isn’t your first choice, since they’re more restrictive than than the others. Just in case they want you bad enough but can’t put you in the others. If you didn’t get an email you should be good. You can go here and check your standards though if you are worried. FYI though, you have to meet the standards for active duty, people going off to basic can be a little heavier because they know it will be lost in basic training with PT and restrictive diet. Direct commissioned officers don’t have that luxury.

A more detailed breakdown with measurements can be found here, scroll towards the end and you’ll see the chart with the max ratios between measurements:

My apologies if I’m misunderstanding, but does this mean that my BF% has no bearing on getting the call? Though I passed and sent in the paperwork, I was a little irked that I received the paperwork so deep into the cycle.

It does have a bearing on getting the call, if you're overweight for your height and age but under the BF % requirement you're good to go. Your BF is completely different from the physical, they just get your measurements there. DODMERB is only concerned with you not having any physical disabilities / ailments that will keep you out.

What I meant by I wouldn't read into too much was that them sending that to you doesn't necessarily have any bearing on where we are on the list. If anything it means they are still interested. I wouldn't be irked about it being late, it gave you time to meet the standard if you were over. Of all the pieces of paperwork that have to get approved, the H/W form doesn't have to be sent off and possible end up getting lost in the sauce. The minute the coordinator got it, it was done. If you go into the Army everyone has to do a H/W every 6 months (usually) or anytime you want to go to a military school, and a BF% if over weight. Back when I was enlisted, folks would be going off to airborne, air assault, etc and would get their H/W done a day or two before they were supposed to go. If they were over they wouldn't have enough time to drop the couple of pounds or inches to meet the standard; they would lose their spot and then get flagged. Of course it was their fault for being out of shape

Thank you! This was very helpful.

Just got the all clear from the commissioning coordinator! Does anyone know if outside of the medical/physical qualification and the security paperwork turned in on interview day, is there anything else I should be checking up on?

I don't think so! I called Mr. Stokes yesterday, asked the same thing; just hold tight I guess!

Wow. Awesome. What does that mean for residencies? Are they all GMOs until this crisis passes?

I got the call yesterday, so movement off the primary waitlist has started. Good things are coming.

I can't tell you how happy I am to read that. Congratulations!! Give us the deets haha what branch? (If you don't mind sharing of course 🙂)

Also, when did you interview/get waitlisted?

Has anyone gotten an email asking if they would consider an Air Force seat (attached a form and asked for it to be returned NLT Tuesday)? I’m currently active duty Navy and def have Navy as my first choice.

Did that hapoen to you?

Yeah. They emailed Friday.
Wow. That is a pleasant surprise. Are you still on hold or did you make it to the waitlist? I think it would be very hard to go from Navy to AF, but if it gets you into medical school...tough decision for sure. I'm hoping the best for you.

I got an email from CAPT Liotta saying I was on the waitlist on 10 MAR. I know the HSCP boards just came out and I personally 1 guy holding a Navy seat is opting for a civilian school with HSCP vs USUHS. Hopefully that board result will mean more movement for all of us!

I see. In same boat here. Are you talking about HPSP? It was nice to see that email from CAPT Liotta. I sure hope things move soon.

Nah- HSCP board meets once a year (HPSP meets nearly every month) - it’s a program that doesn’t pay tuition, but pays you as an E-6/E-7 with benefits (i.e. Tricare insurance, housing allowance, etc). I’d imagine at least a few people who are occupying seats will have gotten selected for that program too.

I did mark AF as my second choice.

Ah, I see, similar program to MECP for nursing. Sounds like a good program if there is another school one likes better. Plus, I would assume the payback is less than USU.
