Does anyone know if a lot of students have a car here? I know it’s almost necessary for 3rd year, but is recommend/ not recommended for years 1 and 2?
I asked this while at the interview and I think mostly only people from the area (Illinois, Michigan, etc...) have cars

I live in Chicago now. In general, it’s really nice to have a car here, especially in the winter, but not necessary by any means. But makes zipping around to run errands a hell of a lot easier!

Do they ask a lot about basic science research at the interview here?

It may depend on who you get but my faculty interviewer was a psychiatrist who didn’t do research and I was really only asked the overall goals and a general description of my project/lab. No in-depth procedural questioning at all.

also got that pre-II R this morning! i knew this one was a long shot lol only applied cause they sent that diversity letter and waived secondary fee but oh well! best of luck to everyone else and happy holidays!🙂

edit: complete 8/22

Does anyone know when MSTP rejections come in? Or do they send all the rejections at the end?

Hey all, was wondering if it would be a good idea to send a combined update/LOI post-interview. UChicago remains my top choice after my interviews and I really want them to know that. I also just got a promotion at one of my paid part-time positions, and the activity is highly relevant to UChicago's mission. A few questions:
  • Is it worth updating on a part-time position promotion? I don't really have any other substantial updates.
  • What's the best way of sending this kind of letter to Chicago, email or PDF upload? I was thinking of calling them first.
  • Should I combine or separate LOI/update? Is an LOI more useful if I get waitlisted? I'm in a bit of a bind because the Commit to Enroll date for one of my schools is 4/30, and if I get waitlisted, I'll probably have to give up the spot if I don't hear from Chicago prior to 4/30.
Congrats on your promotion! I think it's definitely worth sending in an update for your promotion, especially if it's something important to you. It looks like you can upload it via the portal under the "Status" header. They mentioned at my interview that they appreciate updates and communication throughout the cycle.

As for a LOI, I honestly can't say and hopefully others will chime in. Since it's your top choice, I think it's worth at least mentioning in your update note that the school remains your #1 even after having completed multiple interviews.

What restaurant is the deep dish pizza usually ordered from?

LMFAO this is actually one part that I clearly remember. I can't remember exactly where (I want to say Leona's), but it's NOT Giordano's, and some of the current students were a little unhappy about it (joking banter but I imagine some hurt) bc it's like the rival to them for UChi students
