Looks like I got passed up, and I think this is the last wave! Kind of a bummer cause my app was essentially designed to get in here (lol). But, hopefully my other interviews will work out!!

Sorry to hear that. I tapered my app for them also, but sometimes you can just never predict! Sending good vibes for your other interviews!!

+1 on the interview invitation this morning!

FYI this was in the email: "This is our last interview date of the season. There will not be an opportunity to reschedule. If you are unable to attend this interview date, please contact our office directly to cancel your interview or to withdraw your application."

Did they email you?? Because I am thinking I am probably going to receive that soon.
Haha yes, I doubt they're going to be calling everyone to tell them they've been rejected pre-II 😛

I know some people earlier in the thread got specific feedback on their application, but this email basically just said please plan to re-apply

+3
They don't even let you get your hopes up opening the rejection email, the rejection was in the subject line lol
honestly, I'd prefer that. I had the ones where it's like "status change" "please log into the portal to see the 'update'" like just get to the point. Buttttt sorry for the pre-II R 🙁

True! It was just surprising b/c most schools do exactly what you mentioned/put decisions in the body of the email so I got used to that I guess. And all good, best of luck to you/everyone else still in the running 🙂

Hahah you are right! sorry that was a dumb question

Anyone who interviewed today have the name of their traditional interviewer? Specifically looking for the big presumably African american guy for the even Bs

Are they done sending interviews here if the last date is February 8th? I haven't received any communication since I submitted my app beginning of September.
My guess is that they're probably done and that any remaining interviews sent out are for spots that open up unexpectedly due to cancellations.

Yeah, idk how i got one considering the reasons for rejection others have mentioned

which makes me think, is there any advice already accepted/interviewed applicants would provide for this school? What is there focus? What do they care about? Theres something about my app they like and idk what it is

Lmao research bro inject it in your veins

I think they prefer applicants with extensive clinical and research experience in addition to ECs that show you work well in a team environment given the fact they have such a small class size.

Talldoctor 96 - It’s pretty much 10000 percent research

Well you have two sources of information here. One from someone who has had an interview and one who hasn't lol Take that as you wish.

I played a competitive club team sport throughout college and have extensive clinical/translational research experience with pubs, but got the R today. Takeaway: there isn't a formula for any school

+1 to the above poster; it is definitely a crapshoot process

i have multiple pubs, extensive leadership in clinical & community service activities, and wasn't given a chance to interview.

I Interviewed last year lolol. I’m not saying that’s all they look for. I’m saying that’s the schools identity. My best friend goes there and research is their calling card.

Does anyone know why the school is so vested in research? What type of research? How does it benefit their community when, depending on the research, it may take many years to implement?

It is a new school (less than 10 years old). All research. Research is the backbone of everything we done in medicine. Best practices are evidence based-- so the school believes it is important to conduct research so that you can be a physician prepared for the future of medicine. Its not about benefiting the direct roanoke community, but guiding and being leaders in the future of medicine.

Also got the pre-II rejection.

I love how they say how much they value re-applicants lol... Last March I had a 45 minute phone call with an admissions counselor that ended with her emphatically stressing that I apply here again next year.

I guess the third time's the...wait, I'm out of money.
Yeah I mean you have to always take what one person says as a grain of salt. Almost all decisions in these processes are made by more than 1 person/ a committee of people. Its designed that way intentionally. Oh well.

Regardless of the rejection, she was such a valuable resource! She told me why they asked me to interview in the first place. She told me that 2 of the MMI interviewers wrote that I was "too assertive" and she also gave me insight into what my faculty interviewer thought of me. Even gave me pointers on how to come back stronger next time.

Anyone who interviews here and ends up not accepted: please schedule the telephone interview! Don't be salty!

That is incredible feedback. I too received good feedback from VTCSOM last year which guided my new application. I do wish he had given me specific interview feedback thats unheard of!! Now that I think of it though maybe I didn't want to hear my feedback... it was my first interview and I cringe looking back at it now.
