2019-2020 Wayne State

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If not then I’ll create one and post the link here
There will probably be an official one made in January or February by current M1s or M2s. I'd wait on that one!

Does anyone know of any edp applicants that were waitlisted and offered an acceptance in the past or is getting waitlisted as an edp basically a silent rejection?

I am almost certain that I saw EDP applicants be accepted from the waitlist in the past.

Hey all! This is less of a serious question, but I'll be arriving from California 2ish days before my interview. I was wondering what you guys, particularly current students and natives, would recommend checking out. I'm staying in the downtown area. As for other applicants, feel free to reach out if you'd want to hang out!

Detroit zoo is about 20 minutes north of the city, I love going there! The DIA is right across the street from WSU main campus and contains many famous art pieces. Behind that is the science museum, I think they may be doing a star trek exhibit right now....

I sent my secondary in July and received my 2nd MCAT score 9/4. Should I e-mail admissions confirming they received my 2nd MCAT score?

Hey guys... I'm taking a september 6th or 13th mcat and am hoping to get 508+..otherwise have good stats(3.8 post bacc with their replacement policy, tons of clinical)....how screwed would I be if i was complete mid october at wayne? This is my top choice for md, and am applying otherwise mostly DO. Any success stories you guys know of people applying like that late in the game? how do the non-rolling admissions work? I wish i took it earlier, but things didn't work out and I am banking on this cycle..not the next one. thanks!

In terms of Wayne State in particular, I'm not sure. Personal anecdote: I completed my primary application for 2019 in mid-October 2018 (MCAT in September 2018) and, in my case, that was too late.

I had one school even email me to basically say "thanks for the secondary app money, however we didn't read it because we have enough people to fill our class". That being said, I still received an interview from another, smaller school. This whole process is unpredictable. Embrace the uncertainty.

Do you guys know when they start pulling people from the waitlist? Do they review the waitlist periodically or is it just later in the cycle?

Pretty sure the waitlist get reviewed periodically, but the majority of waitlist movement occurs later on in the cycle

Any reason why the admissions tracker has not been updated in so long? Looks like there have not been any IIs going out recently. :eyebrow:

My gut says that WSU isn't so on top of those kinds of things

Appears to be the latter

Ah if that's true, I'd definitely wait for the real thing! Students who send requests to join are screened (that way there's no randos) and you'll also be given frequent updates about the transitioning process as orientation approaches. Plus there will be some upperclassmen handing off their apartments at the end of their leases (so you can skip apartment waitlists since midtown is pretty popular). Once the new M1s have their student senate elected a month or so into school, they'll be given admin access to the fb page! 🙂

I just ran across this article while browsing reddit. Wayne is an awesome school that does amazing things, and I feel super grateful to have interviewed here recently. Hoping for the best!

Does the fact that they offered 116 spots for a 290 class size give me a reason to worry or nah? Waitlisted Sept 26.

Not at all mate. If you read previously on this thread, they take about 300 off the 600 on the waitlist, leading to a 70+% post II acceptance rate. Just take a breather and trust in the process 🙂

so should i expect a post-II decision like 2 months after interviewing or... 3 months..... or next cycle

Lol why do you think they wouldn't get off it

Wayne state specifically says if you are above their minimums for EDP, you have a higher chance of getting in. Now that we're thrown in the alternate list (with regular applicants), it looks bleak, because they clearly think even with our additional dedication towards applying through EDP, we're still not worth it. (Also should point out that no one gets rejected post-II until July).

Wayne has absolutely no structure to their WL. However, they do go over the waitlist at each adcom meeting and about once a month there is some waitlist movement. For some reason, Wayne doesn't accept many people right off the bat from interviews and instead puts most people on the waitlist for further consideration b/c frankly no one has the time to dwell on so many applicants so they (like most of their medical students) put everything off until the last minute. I was waitlisted for over 7 months and accepted just 2 weeks before classes started, but accepted I was. Only about 20% of medical school applicants in general are successful, and it's becoming more and more likely that students will have to take years off and get more experience before they will get in.
If you are waitlisted, really go all in on medical-related volunteering/work/shadowing and plan on writing a letter of intent to send them around the new year describing how you are continuing to be dedicated to the practice of medicine and that you are only considering WSUSOM. I sent a letter of intent and about a week later I was accepted.

Printing & framing this to keep me sane throughout the next few months

Such a great post. Applying EDP basically shows how serious your "intent" is for applying to this school. No harm in sending a letter of intent while on waitlist, but they probably know about how much you really want to attend this school based on your EDP app, hahaha. (Cries).

Where did you get the statistic of 20%? Is this to only MD schools or all?
