2019-2020 Wayne State

blackhawk did you get any II from US MD schools?
No. Submitted Wayne secondary in mid-August. No II yet.
I assigned 4 recommendation letters. But only three arrived. The 4th one probably will never come as he keeps promising but never acts. I am not sure what to do. Since I assigned 4 letters, my file might be marked "incomplete" even Wayne requires minimum 3 letters. Same situation for other schools I applied for. Anyone has any advice?

You could send them an email and ask, they reply pretty quick, usually the next day, even though they say much longer than that.

Thanks BlueBerriess. I actually called a couple of days ago. They said my file was already in committee. Not sure if being in committee means being processed. Since I did not have enough academic-oriented letters without the one I mentioned above, I added a letter writer and he submitted the letter this past weekend. Then I read from another thread which says adding a letter this late will pull a file from the top to the bottom for re-evaluating. Not sure if I made a mistake.

I want to say it's not a problem, but everyone is just speculating. Personally I've had better answers given to me when I email them, so you could try sending one so you can know for sure. There's no problem emailing regarding the same thing you called in about, everyone does it.

You also have the option to use AMCAS to point out that this letter writer will no longer be sending one in (which is not looked down upon, it is something that commonly happens to applicants).

BlueBerriess, many thanks for your advice. Will call or email.

Why did they already reject you?
I highly doubt they know why they were rejected and honestly it's probs not kosher to ask that - it could be they didn't fit the mission, it could be stats, it could be wsu gets so many apps...

Hey, when your file was under review, did it still say "your application is ready" under your status in the portal?
It still says "application completed". I suspect they won't review my files because one of my recommendation letters not arrived even the minimum # of letters is met.0

Some schools say why. I got an email saying one of my subsections was too low on the MCAT from a school. Or possibly their stats didn’t make the cut to apply so they weren’t considered. I haven’t heard of anyone getting rejected yet from Wayne so I’m just wondering.

For those that already interviewed. When did they say the earliest notice of acceptance for regular applicants would be? I know MSAR says October 15th but is that actually true.

October 15th is the earliest that any school is allowed to send out (non-EDP) acceptances, per AAMC rules.

My faculty interviewer at Wayne State said that they do give feedback if you applied and were rejected. Wayne State is one of the schools who are more forthcoming with feedback it seems.

I just received the secondary for this school. What are their interview dates up to right now? Just curious
And how fast/slow are they with turnout times (if any indication)

They updated the tracker today, with 0 admission offers. That probably answers your question.
Any ED's get accepted yet?

Adcom on interview date said Oct 15 for regular applicants is the first day they’ll release offers

Schools cannot announce acceptances until after that date. Its not a matter of their choice, its just how it works. So the earliest possible notice for RD applicants is that date. EDP applicants have to find out BY oct 1.

True, but some schools withhold acceptance announcements until a later date. On the other hand, some say explicitly if you interview early fall, you will hear something that week of Oct 15 (Wake Forest said this at my interview).

At the interview they said that they will start saying decisions on Oct 15.

Can someone tell me what the admissions tracker means. Did they give out 1100 interviews in total already or 880 interviews?

They gave out 880 interview invite requests to applicants, and out of those, 222 of them already completed their interviews.

So I just received my first R of the cycle from WSSOM. Is not getting an interview here a really bad sign for my cycle? If WSSOM is not interested in my stats I would think no one is. I am a non-trad with a 3.25 science and 3.14 overall, but I have done a DIY post-bac with 70 credits at 3.89 and have a 516. I have above average volunteer, clinical, and shadowing. I just feel like if Wayne doesn't want to look any deeper into me why would any other MD school 🙁. I am applying to 22 DO schools currently so maybe there is hope there. Complete 8/14 OOS.
Wayne state is a weird school. Youre sure to find love somewhere else with 70 credits of post bac. Make sure you apply to loyola as they Place emphasis on postbac reinventors. Your MCAT score is great. Wishing you the best this cycle!

It seems like the interview tracker hasn’t changed and has been ~800 for a few weeks even after some II’s given out yesterday (from posts in this thread). I know there was discussion on this earlier but I think maybe they prematurely updated that number and now are actually sending out those interviews?

Thanks for the support, but I am really starting to think I wasted any money I sent to MDs, maybe if I had been complete July 1st I would have had a shot. It is just so hard to look my wife and daughter in the eye. I am hoping that by applying to so many DO schools I will at least get a shot to interview. I am struggling to find the motivation to complete and pay for those applications as I just feel so worthless. I just hope that by completing more volunteer hours and becoming more involved in my local soup kitchen will convey to schools next year that I really want to be a doctor to help people. I am just bummed and wonder if my age 32 is a factor as well. Now my hold from Drexel seems much more likely a softened hard R. I am just rambling thanks again for your kind words they really do salve the burn a little. 🙂
You’d never know if you didn’t try. Plus for Wayne are you in state or out of state? Also try and stay positive until a bit later in the cycle. I don’t think anyone can make sense of who receives and doesn’t receive interviews sometimes

No problem brother. Were all in this boat together, whether its the titanic or the mayflower. Each school looks for something different. A 516 removes doubt about your science capabilities, and a 3.9 is no joke either! Just give it time, the cycle is long...... very long, and even longer for DO.

It's impossible to know what goes on in the admissions office. Perhaps someone that read your interview was put off by a word choice that someone else might have ignored (think about how the word 'moist' disturbs people). Each school and reviewer is different, so you're still in this. That is an extensive post-bac at 70 credits, many schools will focus on that instead of the original undergrad work. It sounds like you applied to 40+ schools between DO and MD, do you think your secondary quality dropped because of that? The cycle is still young, I am sure you will get quite a few interviews.

Also remember, everyone's best shot is at their IS public schools. Wayne had 6200 applications for ~400 interviews for the OOS side for the class of 2018, so only ~6% got interviews. Whereas their instate had ~1800 applications for ~400 interviews, so ~22% interviewed. Some public schools trend even more to IS students.

I am from a state with only one Medical school and no reciprocity anywhere. I believe I have tanked myself with them by sending a previously error-filled PS and overall bad secondaries, but maybe they will give me a second chance as my most recent application is much improved both in substance and form.

Depends on the school. One of my state schools noted it's 2019 class has ~30% of its students being reapplicants. Identifying deficits from your first application and improving them is how you show you are not the same person as before. They want to see growth and improvement, so keep on keeping on.

Should be. Somebody at the interview told us they try to get EDP decisions out before Oct like around the last week of sept.

My interviewer told me the ADCOMs aren't even meeting until Oct 1st and we'll be getting the EDP decisions late this year (1st or 2nd week of october). Regular decisions will be "god knows when". However no one else heard anything remotely similar to that, so I'm hoping there was a mix up of info on their end.

Anybody else here not impressed with the school after the interview? I love the city of Detroit and a lot of the clinical opportunities thru WSU looked fantastic, but the school itself seemed really... chaotic? Like I don't know how to place it but it felt like being in a high school lol.

Before people call me out for being ungrateful, I'd absolutely love to come here at the end of the day, but yeah... I'm just being real: I was not impressed
