So it possible to be like what rdyotz said where they have yet to send them out? Because it’s still weird there was no one talking about an interview here after the update today. In the past updates, someone usually posts here around the same time the tracker changes, so the whole “delayed update” thing in the tracker feels weird.

Overall, do the numbers mean we shouldn’t worry yet?

I am pretty sure the admission tracker only updates after they actually send invites/complete interviews. I've also never heard of a school updating their tracker before actually sending out anything.

Honestly, nonrolling admission seems to be not true, these guys do everything a rolling admission school does, but they end up just accepting people later into the cycle than other schools because of their 290 people class size (like the second biggest MD class)

So should I be concerned then since I submitted so early and have yet to hear anything?

Feels like I keep hearing conflicting responses.

Gotcha, and thanks. I was just confused given the whole rolling admissions thing meant that since I applied early and still haven’t heard anything back, all hope was lost.

Rolling admissions refers to offering acceptances throughout the cycle instead of all at once at the end. They can review applications in a variety of ways: some go chronologically, most others will select for certain things to review first (high stats, veterans, URM, etc...)

I genuinely enjoyed the interview day. Everyone in my interview was super nice and talkative, everyone seemed to get along great so that helped set the tone for the rest of the day. The tour of Detroit was really interesting (although being from the area it got boring at some points), the lunch with the students was chill, lunch was some sandwich that was alright at best with chips and cookies (theres a veggie option too and that looked a lot better tbh) (maybe im just salty because there was cole slaw in the sandwich... who tf puts cole slaw in a sandwich lol). Interviews were awesome, the faculty and student that I had made the entire interview super conversational and I genuinely had a good time talking with them. MMI was 5 stations and was fine, just your basic MMI stations.

I went in not knowing much about the school, but left definitely having this school as one of my top choices. The students boast about the insane clinical exposure they get, and they seem to be incredibly prepared to start residency.

Don't stress about this interview for sure, I'm sure you're going to enjoy it!

I completely agree with this! I didn’t know an interview could be fun. I was very pleasantly surprised!

lol this, the cole slaw suprised me too, for a sec I was like, maybe it's just one of those Detroit things, haha. Honestly this is pretty much accurate for what the day was like. Although the school was already my top choice.

Lol it wasn’t even good coleslaw. But let’s be real, I really didn’t eat because I was too nervous for the interview that was going to take place after. I had nothing to be nervous about. Watch me not get in though. Still waiting on that acceptance letter

The coleslaw was my only complaint of the day — incredibly tough to eat without being messy. I truly was blessed by the coleslaw gods that my suit remained pristine. Other than the nerve wracking sandwich, the day was a pleasure.

The coleslaw was so unexpected when I had my first bite, I forgot that it was an interview day. I was preping to go complain to the manager.

Does anyone know where Wayne State SOM and the DMC stand? Have they negotiated a long term agreement with DMC.

I have a feeling that a decent number of people decline. I would be surprised if they stopped so soon. Anyone with insight?

I think people will start withdrawing their interviews/pushing them back when they hear back from schools on Oct 15 but who knows

Honestly, being a Canadian app myself, it takes a lot of strategy on top of high marks to have any shot at med school whether in Canada or the States. Canada is insanely competitive but for US you’re considered international and I’m pretty sure that affects your application processing, even at “Canadian Friendly” schools. Bottom line, it’s pretty difficult regardless of where you apply

It's crazy....Sometimes I feel like a sleazy salesman when I'm trying to 'market' my ECs to and hit a school's core values. But that's part of the strategy I guess
 
The MSAR reports that during the most recently reported cycle, Wayne accepted 9 internationals, after interviewing 65. The school takes only Canadians or Internationals who did their undergraduate at Wayne. The school says they took only people from the US and Canada. The school also got over 700 applications from internationals. Acceptance rate is pretty darn low, seeing how only 9 canadians were accepted.

yo this isn't true. Wayne State considers Canadians as out of state, not international

edit: it's literally on their website "Canadian citizens are treated as non-residents for both admission and tuition purposes. Typically, 15 percent to 20 percent of our class is non-resident. We have approximately 6,000 applicants each year for a class of 290." non-resident = OOS

Canadians are internationals, we are considered as out of state like every other "canadian friendly school" when it comes to adcoms looking at our apps. So when you look at MSAR for internationals, it is referring to Canadians.

To further prove this, MSAR reports 9 internationals accepted, however also the first year admitted class only had Americans and Canada, no other country.

Edit: what they say on their website has been posted for years, it's likely out of date as the case with some other things on their site.

look at their website. https://www.med.wayne.edu/admissions/application/canadian and read my response before quoting it and spreading misinformation repeatedly. Canadians are considered non-residents aka OOS at WSU

You can't just conflate the two. Just because you think it's common with schools that consider Canadians OOS doesn't make it "right." Based off of what WSU's website says and my friend who interviewed and spoke with the dean THIS cycle and is Canadian, he is considered OOS and so are the rest of the Canadian applicants

Wayne state is not the only school that considers Canadians as OOS. You're starting to just disregard the evidence. I'll say it AGAIN: Canadians are seen as OOS when it comes to consideration, like it literaly says on their site, but their site does not say that in their MSAR stats we are counted as OOS. We are CLEARLY reported as internationals to MSAR, this is a well known fact. You don't need to convince me that they treat us as OOS for admission purposes, I already interviewed there this cycle.

You can check out other schools, which do the exact same thing as WSU. I'll give you another one to look at, George Washington University. They treat Canadians the same, as OOS, and display it similarly on their MSAR.

Edit: To add on, when the residences of matriculants are reported to MSAR, the MSAR service is the one that needs to categorize the numbers on their site. Thats why they have certain states highlighted for locations being represented. Likewise when Wayne State reports to MSAR that "this many people are coming from Canada", MSAR just throws us into the international category.
