2020-2021 Carle Illinois

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just checked MSAR (after hearing on Reddit that the 10/15 release of acceptances is just a guideline by AAMC), and Carle has 10/1 listed as their earliest notification date. Do you think it's possible we could hear on Thursday? Or is it more likely they'll wait until after their info session?

Most likely they'll wait till the first showcase. Since the first showcase is on Oct. 12th, I'm thinking the earliest they'll send out offers will be around Oct. 20-23. Just a mere guess.

I highly doubt we will hear Thursday. The showcase isn't really an info session - I'd treat it as an informal interview and I'm sure it goes into final committee deliberations. You need a showcase invite to be accepted so I don't see how they can send us anything besides a R prior to a showcase happening

Because showcase invites have already gone out. It was just a thought, since they say "you don't need to attend a showcase to get accepted."

October 15 is legally the first date that med schools are allowed to send out acceptances/waitlist decisions, so I would not expect to hear anything before then lol

So why did NYU release a statement saying they could/might start releasing 9/28 and that the AMCAS date was a guideline? I'm just confused...

Do we get any breaks during the showcase event?

Also, I remember making the collages for the secondary, but I for the life of me can't remember if I had to record a video of myself or anything. Were the collages the only component of the secondary?

Post #45 is I think from you, looks like you had the video part done. Don't stress!

Thanks  literally can't remember what's going on for each school anymore...

Received the showcase schedule! Looks like a lot of small group time in breakout rooms with students, faculty, and student support staff. A note on the email about it not being a day for formal evaluations but that "because there is always a chance that one might be observed while participating in a business meeting or other professional activity, our expectation is that applicants will act professionally at all times". The day goes from 9:45 am to 3 pm

Got Zoom Group A... hmmmmmm...... wonder if that A stands for something LOL:laugh:

I think I remember that this was an audio only call for us and we don't need video right? Just want to double check so I know how much earlier on the West Coast I need to wake up if I need to make myself presentable lmao

Not that I'm aware of. It's an all day video affair

Group B too.. wondering if there's any 'informal evaluation' since they stress there won't be any 'formal interview' part embedded.

While none of us can know for sure, I intend to treat the entire showcase day like an interview and be professional/engaged. I have no doubt that the small group sessions are a good chance to evaluate all of us and that very well could be the part where info is relayed to a committee

@Sredman @ice cheems I still haven't heard back either and I submitted on 8/19 as well!
Update again: still waiting to hear anything from them. At this point I do think I should reach out, but not sure what to say exactly? I haven't pre-completed the collages or prepped for the video as school has been a lot this semester :/

@ice cheems I would! I ended up hearing back ~2 weeks after I submitted my pre-req checklist

My current showcase review is that no way they can be evaluating 50+ people - there's only one admin in each breakout room. I'm pretty sure the showcase is literally meant to show off the school and make sure none of the applicants are just terribly unprofessional people.

EDIT: Woops, I lied. Another admin said they hope to have things out by Thanksgiving, so I'm not sure what the plan is at this point.

Yeah she said that their subcommittee meetings are pretty delayed due to COVID, and that they're hoping to have the first few acceptances out by the week before Thanksgiving at the earliest.

Showcase was awesome! Don't expect to hear anything about acceptances until early Feb at the earliest. Very very few people may get acceptances in November. Overall really blew me away and seems like an awesome place. Gonna be a long wait.

Are any of you sending a thank you letter to admissions? Is it normal for people to do this after an interview?

Admissions emailed me back yesterday that they are just behind with processing apps, and that they'll contact me if they need further info about my competencies. Sure wish I'd gotten in on this first wave of secondaries/showcase but alas :'( Glad to hear everyone enjoyed it and is loving the school though!

They're making the vast majority of their decisions after the last showcase. They made it very clear they want to be fair to all applicants regardless of when they submitted secondaries. So if you're in a later showcase, you're not in a worse position than those of us in the first showcase.

That's wonderful to hear, thank you so much!

To summarize some key points from the showcase yesterday that may be helpful to you all:

- Student affairs/ admins stated that we weren't being reviewed during the showcase, but during small group sessions there was always an admin in the Zoom breakout room - so take that as you will.

- Decisions are currently expected to be released around mid-February with a final class size of 48. All applications of those invited to a showcase will be reviewed by a sub-committee after the final showcase (Jan. 25).

- Although ~100 were extended a showcase invite for this round, all other invites will be based on the same criteria (two faculty rate your app and assign a score, if the score is above a threshold -> invite). So everyone will have a fair chance.

- No application updates post-secondary.

Hope this helps everyone still waiting!

So if we didn’t get a showcase invite this time = rejected?

It's possible you were not yet reviewed in time for the showcase invites this round. It's also possible you made the cut but they wanted to limit the first showcase's attendance.

I emailed admissions about whether there will be more showcase events, and they said that there will be at least two more! Don't lose hope!!

Has anyone actually received a vita invite?
No, but when I completed VITA it said that my VITA was sent to 3 schools. I know the first two schools that I submitted for, and this would be the only other school that has "interviewed" me and thus I expect they got it.

Did anyone get that post-showcase information survey that they were talking about sending out?

Where did you hear that they're sending them out in early Feb?

This was during the showcase. They stated they might send a tiny bit out sometime in 2020 but in all likelihood all acceptances will be sent in a non-rolling manner in 2021.

Oops okay idk how I missed that, I was in the showcase too but wasn't paying close enough attention I guess 🙁

Has anyone heard back about a 2nd showcase invite?

I would expect it to come end of this month or next month if previous years' pattern holds! It usually goes invite, showcase, invite, showcase, invite, showcase with about a month in between each!

Is it appropriate to send a letter of interest after we've attended the showcase?? Or is it too early still?

I believe Carle said to not send them anything at all - updates, letters of interest, letters of intent. Someone else correct me if this is incorrect.

Yeah, that's right...nothing at all

I wish I could remember! Went to the 10/12 showcase but I have absolutely no memory on whether they said something about updates...so I assume you are correct

Anyone heard about 2nd showcase yet?
